Naira batted at the sand castle. She sniffed it too. "Smells.. musty..." she said wrinkling her nose. But Naira decided to make one herself. She scraped at the sand with her paws making a small hill. "Thats as good as it gets," she chuckled. Suddenly Naira lifted her ears. "Did you hear that?" she asked Blue.

"No I didn-" He was cut off by the sound again. "What was that?" Blue asked
confused. They walked alittle up the beach. "Do you hear it anymore?" Blue asked.

Naira sniffed the air, "its not a human.." she said grimly, "There it is again,"she exclaimed. "A high pitched squeak!" she ran ahead of Blue and her nose led her to some scraggly bushes that grew not far from the beach.
The squeaking grew louder. Naira looked into the bush. "Its a kitten!" she cried.

Blue looked and sniffed the air. "No trace of the mother..." He said. "What should we do?"
He asked. He could see in her eyes she did not want to kill it. "My owner is alergic to cats, but mabey
Sophie? Your owner could help her?" Blue suggested.

"She'll have too," Naira mumbled as she sniffed the kitten. it squeaked pitifully. Naira picked it up by the scruff "Lets take it to her now," Naira suggested. She began walking to Sophie's home.

Blue walked with Naira. The little Kitten sqeaked and meowed. "How old do you think he...or she is?" Blue asked.
"I dunno is it's even old enough to leave it's mother?" Blue said. "It's going to need alot of work done to it to survive." Blue said.

"I think its a boy," Naira said as best she could (she had her mouth full) "Sophie has a loving touch and I'm sure she'll keep it safe."
Naira and Blue passed through town on the way to Sophie's. Several of the dogs who were out on the street started laughing. But Naira ignored them and pushed on.
"What cha' got there sweetie?" laughed a large doberman.
Naira growled in reply and stuck closer to Blue.

Blue growled but didn't say anything to him. "They...um..." Blue said trieng to comfert her, but had nothing to say. Just growled at any laughting dog. When they got to Naira's house, blue waite doutside while Naira showed Sophie the kitten. He waited for her to come out and tell him and good news...or bad..

Naira held her breath as Sophie examined the kitten. She brought the kitten over to the kitchen counter and did something to it that Naira could not see.
"well girl" Sophie said slowly, "if you hadn't brought this kitten to me.. it might have died. We'll keep the poor thing, looks like it doesn't have a momma so I'll bottle feed it for now." Naira wagged her tail and went back to Blue. "It'll live," she said in relief.

"Oh thank gosh!" Blue sighed in relief. "So do you like cats or is it just-" Blue started but was cut off by a dog running up to them. "Who are you?" Blue asked. This dog looked odd...like nothing he'd ever seen before. "I'm a fox, and listen here, I heard a couple of dogs were walking around with a kitten." She laughted.

"well I-" Naira began but then a fox ran up to them.
strange looking dog Naira thought.

"That would be us. What's so funny about two dogs rescuing a kitten?" she asked, before Blue could say anything.

"It's creepy and un natrual." The fox grimanced. Blue growled. "So you'd rather let it die?" Blue growled. His teeth bared. "Fine, do whatever." The fox snoodly smirked, and with it's nose in the air walked off.

The kitten hissed at the fox and Naira hid a smile.
"That was strange," she said to Blue, "I wonder what that was all about." She licked the kitten as it had gotten itself dirty again. The kitten purred and snuggled next to her. "Its cute, huh Blue?" Naira had an expression that Blue had never seen before.

I almost wish I had some of my own Naira thought.

"Hey..I gotta question....What are you gunna name the little guy...er...girl?" Blue asked.
The little kitten looked so peaceful. Blue couldn't help but smile. "Huh...never thought
I'd be smiling at a cat." He laughted.

"I thought about Sammy," replied Naira. "It seems to fit him." She smiled lovingly at Blue. "I think he is the only cat I'll ever tolerate." she laughed gently.
