I don't think the world will end in 2012. All doomsday prophecies thus far have proven wrong and the world hasn't ended yet. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to have any effect on individuals from saying the world will end. Where ever you look whether it be on the TV or the Internet people are convinced that it the Earth will end due to either a Nuclear War or Pandemic. I have stopped watching the History Channel altogether because of the shows like Bible Codes or Mayan Doomsday Prophecy. With times already being as tough as they are you would figure that these shows would be pulled off of the air but this is a way in which the modern media trys to keep people scared. Even the things in which people try to seek comfort in like faith also seem to preach nothing but doomsday rhetoric. You must be either morbidly depressed in order to find comfort in this type of stuff or completely insane. Individuals who seek to covert people into this line of thinking are just as sick and twisted.

I honestly think the world will end, not in 2012, but whenever it does, it'll either be because, A war, bombs go off, which trigger a chain reaction of atoms in the air. A Pandemic, wipes out most of the population. Bea's die out, this is possible. Or, the world get's flooded, this can happen, due to Global warming.

Here's a different theory I've come across. It states that 2012 will be a time when the planet and all it's inhabitants would undergo a positive physical and/or spiritual change, instead of armageddon. Has anyone else thought of that possibility?

They keep saying pole changes will equal disaster for earth, and possibly end it, but first they said that the world was gonna end in ice, now they're saying that global warming contributes to our destruction, or something like that? Don't get me wrong I do believe sorta in global warming, but I don't beleive that'll actually end the earth. And I read in about the sun (I'm interested in space. ^^), and religion says the world will end in fire right? Well, I'm not that into religion, but I think that may be right. Because I read that when the sun is going to explode (it's a star, so evenutally it's gonna die... err... explode), it's explosion is going to reach as far out as saturn! So I think that may be when the end of the world happens. And if that theory is actually true, it won't happen for an other 5 million years. Oh yeah, and sorry for going a little bit off topic!

With global warming/climate change, it will likely not destroy the planet, but many lifeforms including humans could possibly be severely effected by it. Not right now, but if things don't pick up in the next two decades, it will become a major problem. We may have an ice age on our hands, as well as a number of other things no doubt. I can't go into too much detail, but there is a sea current which brings warm water to the United Kingdom area. If this current stops, it could be the start of another ice age. Which brings up the potential issue of ocean stagnation, which would be very destructive to the earth. If you're interested, Al Gore has a movie called "An Inconvenient Truth", and he goes into detail about what I mentioned above. I enjoyed the movie very much, and it is very informative about the issue though. Most of this stuff would take decades, so I'd say 2012 is fairly irrelevant where global warming is concerned. Steps are already being taken to combat this issue. It takes awhile, but hopefully we will have the problem stabilized by 2050.
I think you're referring to a supernova, but life will be long gone before our star reaches that stage. I'll explain why. Our sun is designated as a main sequence star, meaning that it is fairly average in size and therefore brightness. Before our sun explodes and becomes a dwarf star (or a black hole...but if I remember correctly, this is unlikely for a main sequence star), it will first reach a stage called a red giant. Basically, the sun grows in size. I have heard that it will grow to a point that it will engulf the earth into itself, which will end us before the supernova. However, we and most living things would be gone even before we were engulfed by the sun, because the searing heat from the new red giant will render our planet inhospitable for most life.

Some says there will be a world war 3 O_o on 2012. But I won't believe it anyway, we are human being, it's we who protect our planet, and it's we who give care and love to each other.
Still.. pretty difficult to believe that the world will end on 2012.

That global warming will cause the glaciers up north to melt, leading to the warming systems of the ocean to change, causing extreme cold such as blizzards in the northern states and countries.

All this stuff about the world ending in 2012 due to whatever misfortune the human mind can concieve of is pure speculation. It is the brainchild of feverish minds twisted by people into believe that doomsday is on their doorstep. It is fed by the popular media to make people afraid and the more afraid you are the more you will consume goods. It is nothing more than a crock, a load of garbage, hogwash, bunk, and other such sayings. It deserves no more attention than the smallest speck of dust on a piece of glass.

I don't believe it, but I'm not denying any possibility of it. I think it's another Y2K and June 6th, 2006 all over again. Nothing ever happened then. But still, something could happen now. But I don't believe it. But I'm not denying it.

yeah i've heard alot of things about the world ending dec. 23, 2012......i dont really believe it but then again, ya never know... ppl are saying that the sun will engulf the world and before it even gets close to the sun [because of its heat] we will all be wiped out, but isnt the sun far from that stage? i think it'll end because of a superflare from the sun. but not in...what..3 years or so? sure ppl say that the mayans predicted the exact day it would end and all [as i said b4] and even if the mayans have to most accurate calendar ion history, ppl have been saying that new york was gonna blow up, that the country would plit apart and junk like that for years! and none of it ever happened...i mean sure the world could end soon but i dont think it will l that soon..and if it does, all we can really do is wait for it i guess.
