I just noticed this in the Topic title "Blood or snow in scene wher Steele throws Balto?" there's no last E in "where" I need to look harder 'cause I've been on this topic a LOT!

I think it's a piece of the boulder he hits and the sunlight reflecting off of it makes it translucent, or "see-through"

If those are pieces of rocks from the boulder then wow he has a tough head.
