HrryNrmn wrote: Bambi- the sequence when Bambi’s mother is shot and killed by hunters. This has to be one of the most traumatic sequences you could put a kid through. Whoever decided they’d kill a character’s mother and then leave the character to wander around calling for her must truly be a sadist. This scene has been traumatizing children for generations, including my grandfather when he was young.
The Land Before Time- again, a sadistic parent killing before the movie is even a half-hour old. This time, we get to see the parent actually die. Actually, I find this difficult to watch even to this day. It just seems…wrong, somehow. I mean, dang, that shouldn’t be in a children’s movie at all.
All Dogs Go To Heaven- there are many, many here. Don Bluthe was never a man to pull punches with his movies, and this one was surely no different. This movie contains elements of kidnapping, child exploitation, gambling, drinking, smoking, contract killing, and murder, and the implication that Charlie had been on death row before his escape. Kind of heavy wouldn’t you say? Man, they sure don’t make ‘em like they used to. The worst part in my opinion, and the part that creeped me out a child was the part where Charlie dreams that he’s gone to hell. All sorts of tiny imps attack him, while the ship made of bones in which he is floating begins to sink into lava. As if this weren’t enough, a Satan-esque, dragon-like dog appears. Apparently, there was to be some dialogue between Charlie and this monstrous satanic figure, but it was cut when the ratings people refused to give the movie a G rating if the dialogue remained in. Wow.
Ren and Stimpy- gee, which one to choose. I’d have to go with the horrendous faces that Ren make while “happy” in the Happy Helmet episode. Truly disturbing for me a child.
Peter Pan- the part where the Indian chief threatens to “burn’em at stake” (referring to the lost boys and Wendy) if Tiger Lilly isn’t returned by sundown. I hated this line for whatever reason. I would actually get up and leave the room until that part was over when I was very young.
Oliver and Co.- the deaths of the two ‘bad-guy’ Dobermans (were there names Roscoe and DeSoto??). Nothing quite like a fall onto electrified train tracks. One of the most gruesome death scenes in children’s movie history, in my book.
The Simpsons- the death of Frank Grimes. This just about as dark as The Simpsons gets. A man who works hard for everything snaps and electrocutes himself and nobody cares. Homer disrespects the man at his funeral and everyone laughs. I don’t know, this is honestly more disturbing to me now than when I saw it as a kid.
I can't agree with you more! They are so annoying!

Wow, almost 6 months in and people are still not getting the point of what I had to say.
I wasn't saying that these scenes (the ones from my first post) disturb me now (with the possible exception of the Frank Grimes one, that's pretty dark). And I know, drama is awesome. And I know, kids can't hide in a fantasy land, especially if their father is robbing liquor stores, or selling crack, or running over school kids with his car. Kids get a megadose of reality all the time, in their very own homes, from their very own parents.
But let's take a nice, objective look at these things. No, none of these things are violent in any real way. There's no foul language in any of these things. But honestly, you have to admit, there are some heady things to be feeding to little children in some of these flicks. I'm not saying that is bad, in fact, I think it's downright awesome. The hell with all this Spongebob idiot, Charlie B Barkin would fold him nine ways from Sunday and still have time to make a wisecrack along the way. Characters in modern cartoons are far too wimpy or idiotic anyway. Give me the good old days, where cartoons were edgey, good guys weren't necessarily good, and violent death was the method du jour.
Look how they killed off Bambi's mom. Wow. Yes, it had to be done, I understand that; that's fine. But Bambi walked around calling for her and stuff...that's alot for a 4 year old to deal with. I know it was for me. And no, it didn't kill me or turn me into a psychopath. But man, I tell you, to this day, that is the part of the movie I remember most clearly. Not funny songs, not good friends or flowery sunshine. No, I remember the winter scene with the hunters who blow away the mother for no good reason. Who hunts females in the winter anyway?
And give me a break, myFork, I don't know anyone who can't function in society because of cartoons, either. That was never the point. And no, Ren and Stimpy was directed at children, and that's why they called it a NickToon, showed it on Saturday mornings, and built a franchise of toys around it.
Yeah, life's hard and no one cares. And many of you are too jaded and tough to admit that some of the stuff put in children's movies is pretty hardcore. If it were up to you, every film would be some grossout snuff film like Hostel. That's ok, I'll stay here and hold down the fort for some real entertainment with an edgey bite to it.

I don't think I've ever seen a more disturbing cartoon than Felidae. That experiment scene...and those images....just OMG.

I know Muppeto said something about it and it sounds really disguisting! Poor kitties! Fireheart is a cat! Plague Dogs was really hard to watch especially the end Here's the IMDb page for Felidae. http://imdb.com/title/tt0109791/I found some of it almost unbearable to watch. Plague Dogs was also very sad and quite disturbing..
