It's not a big problem, Sarafina...just please keep in mind the fact that this whole "Kodi sexual preference" thing is a VERY VERY hot-button topic among the members who are fans of the Balto cartoons...and of Kodi himself (and maybe also Kirby too).
This thing has a way of getting nasty over even the SLIGHTEST statement.

Very, very true. Geez, probably if Kodi was reading all of this crap on here, he would be able to set things straight (no pun intended, please).
XD
And here's my problem: Why is everyone all into Kodi's sexual preference anyway?
I mean, sure, we all know his character wasn't as well-developed as Aleu's runaway persona was in WQ, but good gravy, people! What's up with wanting to make Kodi the "gay *w*h*o*r*e*" of Nome all of a sudden by turning him gay in the first place? (pardon the obvious language, but it had to be said) You know, I feel sorry for him . . . you curious fic writers using him as a test subject of a homosexual relationship!
(Then again, I know that some *jerk* is only gonna talk back, mentioning my whole Saba/Dingo incest stories being test subjects for the whole "OMG it's brother/sister love stories! Ewww!" . . . so yeah. Don't even think about it.)
But yet again, these are merely characters of fiction, brought to life with ink, pencil and people with lots of time on their hands. They aren't real, the stories couldn't really happen (the incest ones are more likely to happen than two male dogs doing it anyday). Get a f-ing grip, okay?
Kyaaa, my head hurts from all this confusion and arguing stuff.

Easy for you to say, Drew. *sigh*
Well, I know I can handle it, but it's not me that I'm worried about -
It's the other members that worry me.
Mainly the really passionate "shippers" that are starting to drive me (and many other members) nuts.
Again, I enjoy any pairing really, but the mass-support of the whole "Gay-shipping" Kodi/Kirby thing is . . . as you may know, too much.
And I can easily ignore it, but some others may not. You know that, right, Drew?

It's okay, the topic's locked so it would have been pointless anyway.
But you really have a point: These fans criticize anything that characters do in these films (even if they aren't real) and think that it means something that it doesn't. What, do they really think that Kodi may have a "different" relationship with his father or mother? (Let's hope no one writes either of those . . . that's a rather odd complex. )
I suppose any action of affection (or, as in the Kodi/Kirby case, a normal facial expression) could easily be mistranslated as something else, right?
*sigh* You crazy people.

Bloopers.
What is up with people making pointless articles and forum topics about certain bloopers and mistakes made in the Balto movies?
I mean, yes, no one is perfect . . . which means no movie is perfect. Whether animated or live-action . . . somehow, there is a blooper or mistake that can never be fixed once made.
But why? Why must an entire article be about a miscoloration in a scene or an awkward-looking face? It's Pointless.
Although Balto (and its sequels) was not a big-budget film, even multi-million dollar film pieces have some mistakes in them! (Even the big blockbuster "Titanic" had mistakes in the script and in certain shots that no one noticed . . . until after it made millions. And guess what? No one cared. It was a good movie. End of story.)
So, I was wondering: Is this bothering anyone else as much as it is to me? Because it's just odd . . . I mean, if there was one article for every mistake/blooper/miscoloration/misanimation/etc., well gosh, could you really think about how many articles you'd have? Honestly!
So yeah. That's all I have to say on this.

It would have made little difference. The topic is a sensitive one no matter WHERE it is talked about. Because those who defend this, as Juuchan puts it "Kodi, the gay w*h*o*r*e of Nome" thing are passionately defensive against ANY criticism of their twisting of the character around to suit the "I'll write any d*a*m*n*e*d fiction I WANT! If you don't like it, don't READ it! Or 'ignore it'. K? Yeah." While those of us who defend the sanctity of the characters to remain AS THEY WERE CONCEIVED AND WRITTEN are sick of the "get on the bandwagon" mentality of the handful of writers now who believe that, now that CatWhoHas14Tails has written the first Kodi-Kirby gay love fan fiction, that it's open license to literally smother this site in gay and incestual fan fictions and supportive billboard-sized signature images.
This issue, which goes beyond just those who are twisting a good character like Kodi around, is the single most life-threatening one for the Balto Source community. And it has divided it into various camps:
1. Those who believe the original characters should be left ALONE...and treated with respect and dignity. (Like myself)
2. The heavily-religious crowd, who oppose the gay/bi/incestual/violent/profane fan fics on those grounds.
3. Those who believe that a couple of fan fics weren't such a big deal, but that this sudden smothering of the site in those types of fan fics is a real PAIN (like Juuchan).
4. The ardent defenders of the fan fictions, and of the writers to write whatever they want. And that it is certainly no crime or disrespect at all to change the nature of the characters into whatever pleases THEM.
This is a recipe for real trouble. And the real ugly truth of it is that, had those first couple of gay fan fics had not been written, then we wouldn't have this problem right now. The writers need to show some discipline. That doesn't imply that they're bad writers (because many of them are GOOD writers). But it does clearly mean that they have little sense of discipline and good form (and, in my opinion, those writers DON'T have respect for the original characters...not when they write stuff like this). There are places to post these kinds of fan fictions...places where that kind of work can be appreciated and respected. Balto Source should NOT be one of them.

Hey guys!
I know I haven't been around much lately, but well... I kinda have a girl I'm seeing now and let's just say that takes A LOT of my time. (lol)
Anyway, to the topic at hand...
I do agree with the whole "bloopers" thing. I mean, the only use for that sort of stuff would be one of two things.
1. Borderline (no, let's call it what it is...) Obsession of the films and needing to know every little thing about them (not healthy...)
2. To tear the movies down. (In which case, what are you doing on Balto Source?)
Anyway, the topic that really got me was the "what if questions".
What if questions are often writers searching for a happy answer to a problem in a fic, or just people who ask what if a lot. (Undiscovered writers.)
I think this is fine and in no way offensive. (Personally, I think Balto would kick Steele's *** any day of the week. I mean, come on, he's a stray (has had to defend himself to stay alive) and he's half wolf. (primal instinct.)
Plus, he's the HERO! (who never loses)
About the whole "Kodi -n- Kirby thing"?
Well, I don't agree with the pairing becuase I believe that "gay" relationships are not acceptable... but I will allow them to exist.
I write violence in my stories, (Nowhere better to learn about how violent the real world is than the USMC) because I believe it makes them more real. Now, this isn't for some people, and some people won't like reading some of my fics (Darkness ext) because of the level of violence in them.
However, I'm still allowed to post them.
I'm a very fair minded individual. It would be a gross injustice for me to tell them that they can't post their stories based on subject matter (as long as they don't get descriptive, if they do then they need to go!) when I can post mine, even though some people don't like the subject matter (namely violence) in them.
I will say it again. I DO NOT support this... shipping in ANY way WHATSOEVER... but...
If I don't like the subject I simply won't read it.
It doesn't hurt me to know there are "gay" Balto stories on the site. If that's your thing, go for it! If it's not... don't read it, and don't start flame wars because they do.
It's as simple as that.
Oh, and about writer's "twisting the character's into whatever they want"?
Well, yes, as writers we have the creative liberty to do such things, and I think it's fine as long as there is a logical reason... people (including animated dogs) change everyday due to what happened that day. They react in different ways. Maybe (and I'm saying this as purely an EXAMPLE don't think for a MINUTE any of you, that I'm getting on this disgusting bandwagon, because the day I write about "gay" balto cahracter's is the day that I will (literally ) eat a bullet. In all seriousness, that's just gross..) but, for the sake of argument, let's say that someone wrote a fic in which Kodi expierienced a bad Female/Male realtionship and had a good male friend... well, you can take it from there, but the point is that would be somewhat logical and not twisting the character to suit another's whims... nough said.
Oh, and one other thing (a little off topic)...
When the word (and I'm doing this purely for example purposes) *a*s*s* comes up as *** that means we probably aren't suposed to be using it. Cheating the system is just wrong. Let's all remember that there are impressionable little children that come on this site and try to keep our language acceptable... (I mean come on, if I can do it you can too. I'm a Marine, my language isn't exactly saint-like. lol)
Anyway, I guess that's all I have for now.
You guys have a nice day!

TikTac wrote: Er,for my say on the Kodi/Kirby deal(seeing as I'm a Kodi/Kirby fan).
I don't really get why people say 'Ahh everyone just likes it cuz it copies Cat!!!' Er,no.People can like Balto and Jenna with no problem. They can like Aleu and their fancharacter with no problem. So what's wrong with Kodi and Kirby? I see people complain about it all the time...really,I think that love is blind to everything.Color,Relation,AND Gender. That's why I like the pairing(and I just think they're cute together.)Note that it's about the only slash pairing I like. Most are annoying...I hate the 'yaoi fangirls' who'll like ANY gay pairing.Especially seeing as they're girls,it makes no sense to point out gay guys...I'm a girl, yes, and I generally like heterosexual pairings, but Kodi and Kirby is my exception to that rule. Those that say 'omg homosexuality is wrong and shouldn't be written about',well, that's why I like the stories. It's proving that love doesn't follow a set of 'rules' at all and I find it interesting. And I won't say too much because I don't want to start a flame war.
Likewise about everything about the "rule exception of gay pairings" thing What people also don't get is that I never thought that Kodi and Kirby would like each other (mind you i always thought kodi was gay. I blame the animators for the majority of his scenes with extended eyelashes [he must be using his mother's mascara, I swear! lol]) Kirby was there cuz I didn't feel like designing a new character.
But I can't stand the people who, EVERY TIME they see a Kodi+Dusty pairing, or even a Kodi+Random girl OC pairing, they HAVE to put in that Kodi and Kirby are forever and whatnot -_- They give fans like us a bad name LoL But I also can't stand the people who do the same thing about Kodi and Dusty.
I mean, P.W. even said so himself that Ralph and Dusty were more into each other, and yet people still insist (i personally like the ralph and dusty pairing, because not only was it suggested, it's fun putting a tiny character like dusty with a fat character like ralph, but thats exactly why they hate the couple, because their proportions don't "match" as well as dusty and kodi's, which is stupid for even liking one couple over the other). I even asked P.W. (respectfully) about Kodi's sexual preference (other questions included) and he said it was undiscussed.
So it therefore leaves PLENTY of possibilities for the character. And IN TURN just comes down to the plain old fact that FIXATED FANS ARE DANGEROUS AND NEED TO CHILL! There. I said it XD And if anyone thinks I'm trying to start a fight or flame anyone, I will flip a biscuit.

I suppose I just don't understand. So many points on both sides, so little time and so many arguments against everyones postings. I haven't thought about this topic for ages since the last time I could be bothered to post something, I don't really care anymore because I was always arguing a point no one else seemed to see or even think was a problem.
Why bring sexuality into Balto?
Going by P.W's response it seems he and his team didn't even think about it.. it was never discussed. Too right it shouldn't be. I mean they are cartoon dogs, there should not be any sexuality in it what so ever. Looking at a dog in that way is just wrong!
People defend such ideas and stories as saying it was original, something others hadn't done before. Well good for you but there are plenty of original ideas still out there which don't involve who fancies who. It seems the first thing people write about when it comes to this is who will fall in love with what character and if all the characters are taken then a new one will be written into the story for all these fictional dogs to fight over. I don't think it does matter what sexuality the dogs are, nor does it matter who they go with. There should be no sex in Balto, the characters are above such tedious topics, too good for that level they are completely asexual.
So I say why cheapen Balto with dirty animal fettishes?
In addition why destroy that fantastic innocense the movies have with bringing 'adult themes' into it?
And finally why are people even thinking about it???

Ac wrote: So I say why cheapen Balto with dirty animal fettishes? In addition why destroy that fantastic innocense the movies have with bringing 'adult themes' into it?

Because some fans are bored out of their wits . . .
and curious about Kodi's love life.
(All because he never had one in WoC, so the (really fanatical ones) fans believe that it's okay to experiment him with other dogs . . . like his own team mates (Well, I didn't experiment on him - I prefer Kodi/Dusty myself, but I also like Dusty/Ralph for kicks . . . and it's easier for fans to write about him with one of his team mates because the writers wouldn't have to worry about creating a brand-new character (*cough*Mary-Sue or *groan*Gary-Stu, whatever your preference may be) to hook Kodi up with.))
If that's your thing (all those naughty stuff), then fine. Write it . . . but please, think of the children! Post it where it belongs - somewhere that's not here. Spare us your fetishes.
But . . . I still see nothing wrong with G/PG rated gay/incest fics (Heck, I do have a fic in the works with a slightly "gay" situation in it, but there's an important reason for why it's in it, and I even have a couple of final "incest" fics to start . . . yes, I said it would be my last ones.), and if they're accepted onto the site like any other fic, that's fine with me . . . as long as they put an obvious warning in their summary of what is to come in their fic, please.
But Ac, I suppose the whole situation is difficult to understand, but I do want you to know that I know where you are coming from and I agree with you that these fics were not what the original creators would have intended to spawn from their series of films about a half-breed dog that has inspired so many.
These fics are all the experiments and ideas of (hopefully) mature fans (and the more occasional immature ones - the "gayshippers") who want to see more than the normal stuff that has already been done before. I mean, would anyone have thought of putting two of Balto's children into a serious incest relationship before I wrote my "Confession" stories? Most likely not. Would anyone have thought of hooking up Kodi and Kirby together as secret lovers before Cat wrote her "Buried Secrets" fics? Again, I doubt it.
*blank* I can't think of anything left to say that's already been said.
[EDIT] - Never mind. I lied.
I just read that a fellow member has left the forums, all due to the whole "constant OMG" bickering and arguing that keeps popping up recently. It's sad to hear about this, and I, too, have had enough of it.
But, unlike this person, I WILL NOT leave the forums. (Should I repeat myself, yet again? Will NOT.)
Here's my question though: Why take the "Easy Way Out?"
This is so stupid. Just because you hate the arguing and the situations that
are being talked about doesn't mean that you should just up and leave! It won't help with anything; It just keeps you out of the whole thing, that's all.
So could we just settle down and shut up about the whole thing? Don't bring it up anymore and if someone posts something like that, leave it the f*** alone. Please. I don't want to see everyone fighting over this s*** anymore. This is one of my favorite places online to talk about my favorite things and have fun with people who share the same love and inspiration for the Balto films as I do, and I really don't want to see it fall into ruin. These arguments are just becoming repetitive and just as pointless as the whole "Blooper" situation that I first ranted about, and I've just had enough of this.
So, please . . . for the sake of our sanity and ourselves:
Could everyone just "Shut UP and Deal with it"?
*whew* That's all I have to say.

So you are wagging a finger at people who try to get around the automatic censorship of certain words on the forums, but you feel that there shouldn't be censorship of violent or deviant fan fictions?
Great double standard there...
