Nate listened to her sing, smiling to himself, as he continued to play. After about thirty-five more minutes. The final bell rang. Nate looked up at Beth and smiled, about to say something until, Scooter and a few girls came over.

"C'mere dude, look what I can do with this bongo!" Scooter laughed, grabbing him by the arm, the girls helping, and they pulled him away. "No, guys I wanna-"

"C'mon, Natey!" one of the girls cooed, he knew he couldn't get away. He gave an apologetic glance back at Beth.He felt awful, he wanted to keep talking to Beth, to spend more time with her. Standing at the door, and watching the scene was a pale blonde, named Desmond McClaine, the school's jerk, and Nate's oldest enemy... (This guy's gonna get Nate in trouble XD)

Bethany frowned and packed up her things, indifferent to his popularity.

The pale Blonde, Desmond walked over to her. "Aww, ya' know you're to good for him." he said smirking as he looked down at Beth. He just wanted to start trouble, and get at Nate

Beth looked at the boy, her face surprised. "Uhm..okay.." She muttered, being very awkward.

"Oh c'mon dear, no need to be so shy." he said, seeing how awkwardly she replied. "And it was kinda obvious you have some kind of feelings for him? Which is understandable, all girls fall for the 'handsome jerk'." Desmond said casually.

"I-I don't like him." she said a little too quickly.

Scooter began tapping a tune on the drums, Nate grinned and started playing the piano. Soon the tune began to sound familiar and Nate, after glancing back at Beth, started to sing along with the tune.

"My heart's a stereo... It beats for you, so listen close! Hear my thoughts in every no-o-o-te! Make me your radio, And turn me up when you feel low! This melody was meant for you,Just sing along to my stereo!.... If I was just another dusty record on the shelf, Would you blow me off and play me like everybody else? If I asked you to scratch my back, could you manage that? Like yea f*cked up, check it Travie, I can handle that. Furthermore, I apologize for any skipping tracks, It's just the last girl that played me left a couple cracks. I use ta', use ta', use ta', now I'm over that

"Oh, because all girls can resist that sort of thing." Desmond retorted, to the fact that Nate was singing a love song.

Bethany rolled her eyes, at both of them. The bell rang, she shouldered her back pack and left.

((*IDEA*- We have a time skip [like just a few days]. Nate's gotten in trouble for some-reason, and so he has to do, community service or something. And maybe Beth's dad owns a ranch on like the outskirts of the city, and Nate has to go work there, while they're out of school. [like on spring break or somthing] XD))

Nate chuckled and got up, with Scooter at his heels they left.

Bethany hopped on the bus and went home.

A few days later...

A big black Chevy pickup truck, came roaring up the gravel road. It easily maneuvered the rough terrain, it's big black wheels churned the gravel with easy. At the wheel was a miserable, Nate. He had been in a fight at school and had been taken to court. Now he had to go pay his dues at some horse ranch. He didn't even know their where ranches in New York, but driving through the country side made him believe. Nate blinked when the road suddenly came to a gigantic ranch house. Their where miles of land which it sat on. A massive stable stood at the side, with horses running around in a paddock.

Nate stopped his truck, and got out. Stepping down into the gravel, he watched as two men approached. One, had the appearance of a wealthy, powerful man. He had a cold, heartless gaze that pierced right through Nate. He wore a suit, strange, for a farmer, and appeared to be in his mid 30's.

The other man, was short and muscular. He wore a plaid flannel shirt, dusty jeans and boots. He had a blonde goatee, stubbly sideburns, and short blonde hair. And himself appeared to be around 23.

"You must be, Nathan." The first man concluded, without emotion in his voice.

Nate nodded, "Yeah I am-"

"Nice truck!" The blonde said with a smile.

"Nicholas!" the older man snapped, making the blonde fall silent. He then looked back at Nate. "I don't usually allow street mongrels, near my horses, but seeing as how you have no choice, and you're free labor... I'll allow it. Nicholas will help you, but stay away from the estate, mongrel! You're only prohibited in the stables and paddocks!" with that he whipped around and swiftly walked away.

"He's a real ball of fun, kid. You'll get used to it, and please, call me Nick. Nicholas makes me sound like Santa, ya know, Jolly old Saint Nicholas?" Nick laughed and Nate grinned.

"You can call me Nate."

"Well alright, Nate. Let's go, you can help me water the horses, we gotta go turn on the water, up by the house." Nick said, and he started off, Nate close behind after a sigh.

Bethany sat inside the stable, propped up against the wall in one of the horses' stalls. She looked up at the big black stallion, he was usually really skittish around people, but not Bethany. She'd raised the 5-year-old stallion, so he favored her. He was a race horse, her father owner many. Bethany stood, and the horse, who's race name was Grand Design, looked at her.

"Hey Grand...You're a good boy..." she hummed, petting his neck lovingly.

Nick came walking swiftly into the stable, he held to big white, plastic bucket full of water, and carried them with ease. He paused and called over his shoulder, "C'mon, City Boy!" he then continued walking.

Nate came up after him a minute later, as he passed a stall the sound of an angry horse sounded, making him yelp. And Nick laughed.

"That's Storm, you best not mess with him..." Nate looked into the stall and came face to face with a wild eyed, Gypsy Vanner. He horse snorted and neighed with anger. Making Nate stumble back. Nick laughed again, "I'll take care of him, you can go water Grand Design."

"Who?" Nate asked looking at him.

"Big black horse. Just be careful, he's jumpy." Nick advised.

"Great..." Nate huffed starting down the stable until he came to a stall with the horse's name printed on it. He didn't see Beth, but the horse looked up at him suspiciously. "Uh... good horsey?" Nate blinked, sitting down his water buckets.

Grand Design whinnied shrilly at the sight of Nate, a bit afraid of him. Bethany looked at the big black horse carefully, then looked in the direction he was looking. She went rigid, nervous even. Sensing her distress, Grand Design became even more edgy. He rushed at the stall door, rearing, then returned to Bethany, who was staring directly at Nate. So, maybe she did like him, but she always told herself that she didn't.

"Hey, you're in my elective, right?" She said softly, trying to pitch her voice into a tone that wouldn't scare Grand Design anymore.

Nate yelped and flinched back when the horse rushed at the door and reared. Nate couldn't understand why he ha done that until he saw Bethany. Surprisingly, he instantly remembered her, and that, along with the sight of her, made him give a small smile. He wasn't sure why though. When she spoke he blinked and nodded, "Yeah, I am." he replied.
