Atticus was sleeping soundly, his arm around Heather, who was his wife, and had been for two years now. His eyes opened slowly when his phone started ringing. He grinned and sat up slowly, he leaned over and kissed Heather's neck. "You want to wake up Nate, or should I." he asked playfully. Nate never got up in time for school, Atticus and Heather took turns waking him.

"I'll do it..." Heather said groggily. She swayed and stood, stumbling to Nate's room. The stench of teenage boy smacked her in the face as greeting as she walked into the room. She sighed and walked over to where Nate lay, sleeping.

"Wake up." She said bluntly shaking his shoulders, "School time!" She chimed.

Nate whimpered and rolled over onto his stomach, burying his face into his pillow. "I don't wanna go..." he muttered, in a muffled voice.

Atticus came to the door, holding Scout by the collar. He let go and the dog galloped over and jumped up onto the bed. Starting to lick the back of Nate,s head. "Ewww! Dog spit in my hair!!" Nate cried.

"Atticus came in and wrapped his arm around Heather. "Get up boy!" he laughed.

"Your a senior right? Only two more semesters of hell!" Heather chimed happily.

Nate shoved Scout off him, and he sat up roboticlly. "Haha! For y'alls information, Mr & Mrs. Soprano, I'm very popular! School's not too bad."

"Getting in a cheerleader's pants doesn't make you popular!" Atticus teased.

"Shut up, you a**!!" Nate snapped with a smile and Atticus laughed. "Get ready, bus'll be here soon!" he smirked taking Heather's hand and leading her out of the boy's room.

Bethany Valentine had been up for hours, finishing up extra credit and studying for a test. She smiled at her own handy work, her short blond hair falling in her face.

"Beth, dear. Hurry up, the bus will be here soon." Her mother cooed.

"Okay mom." Bethany said, folding the project neatly and putting it in her bookbag.

Nate came out with a pair of faded jeans, a black flanal shirt with the sleeves rolled up, and it was unbuttoned. An under shirt that was baby blue. A white flat bill hat turned backwards, and his white Oakely sunglasses, on. After a quick breakfast he grabbed his backpack. "Well, I'm off to fail high school!" he sang walking out the door and heading out to the bus stop. While he waited he took a cigarette and started smoking it.

Bethany walked swiftly to the bus stop and wrinkled her nose with distaste at the sight of one of the popular kids smoking. She coughed slightly, the smoke scratching her own lungs.

Nate glanced at her from the corner of his eyes. He didn't like smoking, but it was a bad addiction. He tossed his cigarette down and stepped on it, to put it out. He leaned against the wall, and watched the girl from beneath his glasses.

Bethany nodded a thanks when he put it out and whipped out her binder, frantically jotting down notes and reminders.

Nate raised an eyebrow and had to bite his lip, to keep from scoffing. The bus arrived and Nate picked up his backpack, a few other kids came by. One smacked Beth's binder from her hands purposely and laughed as they darted onto the bus. Nate paused and glanced back at Beth.

Bethany frowned and kneeled down to collect her things. She huffed and quickly organized her papers before tucking them into her backpack. She hated high school so much, and couldn't wait to get out.

Bethany looked up to see the popular kid look at her through his sunglasses, what a poser, she thought snidely. Bethany didn't like the popular kids who dressed like jerks and acted even more so. She gave him a polite smile and boarded the bus, handing the bus driver $ 5 and taking a seat in the front, since all the back seats were taken.

Nate followed her quietly onto the bus paying the driver and going to take a seat.

"Nate! Dude!" one of his friends laughed grabbing his arm and pulling him into the seat. A couple of giggling girls came and joined the boys. The first was able to squeeze in beside them, but the other gladly took a seat in Nate's lap. Nate rolled his eyes.

"Morning Rachel!" he greeted.

"Hi Natey!" she giggled snatching his hat and putting on her own head. She then wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed his cheek, causing both her, and her companion to giggle. Nate just sighed and chuckled softly.

Bethany pulled out her journal, not that it contained an academical projects, just sketches from the dreams that she had. Last night she had a dream about a beautiful phoenix carrying her on its fiery back. She sketched the details of it, shading it with haunting accuracy. Bethany sighed when the drawing was finished, closed her book, and looked out the window.

Once the bus arrived at school all the kids flooded out, Nate followed more slowly while he scrawled in his journal, the one he had since he lived in the orphanage. While he walked he was shoved roughly, and he crashed into Beth. Some of the other teens laughed. Nate stood quickly but instead of walking away, and leavibg the poor girl to fend for herself. Somthing most popular kids would do, he started helping Beth stand, and gather her things. "Sorry." he apologized, looking at her from over his sunglasses.
