The Avengers

Lately I've been to lazy to bother with reviewing films. Or haven't seen one decent enough to rate that I haven't already. BUT. I'm making an exception.

If you want it in short and care not about my soon to be long rambling review, then take my word for it.

GO SEE IT. You won't regret it. On a scale of one to ten, it was an ELEVEN.

-

**WARNING: SPOILER HEAVY**

Also known as "Avengers Assemble", depending on where you are, I rate it... There is no need for this. It was EASILY one of the BEST movies I've seen in my entire life.
In fact, I knew so much about it (actors, effects, etc) before I even saw it, that I knew before sitting down in the theater on opening night it was going to be a favorite.
I've heard that you could see this movie without seeing the five films that build up to it (Iron Man 1 & 2, Cap. America, Thor, and the Incredible Hulk), but it certainly DOES
help to watch them first anyway. It gave more understanding to character events and personalities, and leaves less time learning about them while watching Avengers,
and more time watching the ACTION. And trust me, there's a LOT. Some say it dragged, but I guess if you have a passion for one or more of the characters (such as myself),
it isn't that bad. Not to mention the constant wise cracks and humor (most often brought on by Stark) kept it rolling smoothly during intense or what some MIGHT
consider 'dull' scenes.

Effects are always something I stress about (especially in werewolf movies, but I won't get into that), as I'm not a fan of CGI, but I was REALLY impressed by the work in this.
It wasn't perfect, but it was good enough to convince you while being wrapped up in the story that it looked real and didn't distract from the focus of what was going on.
The characters all looked fantastic. Some had some slight modifications. Iron Man's armor was different by the big battle as Joss Whedon didn't care for the triangle shape
on his chest, and revered back to the circle. And Captain America's suit had some modifications. I didn't really notice even though I looked, so I guess that was fine.
The big issue was on Bruce Banner (or at least in my circle of the fandom), as he was once again recast for the Avengers. Say what you will though, personally I thought
Mark Ruffalo was the best Banner we've seen since Bill Bixby's. He brought life to the character that lacked in the two movies, and his character probably had only what...
ten minutes of screen time. The suicide bit really threw me, but over all, I hope he gets his own Hulk movie. Or that we get to see him in Iron Man 3 since he and Stark have
such great screen time together. I think that'd be fantastic. ...but I digress. To any Ed fans, give Mark a chance. He really pulled it off, and the fact for the first time in live
action Hulk history, he played both Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde (so to speak). I can't imagine the stress and humiliation that must have caused him, and I admire him greatly for it.
There did seem to be times where Black Widow and Hawkeye stole a lot of limelight in the movie, but with their own lack of individual films (only guest appearances [BW in
Iron Man 2 and Hawkeye in Thor]), I can easily over look that.

Surprisingly, through all the trailers, clips, released photos, and interviews, I'm surprised that it all felt fresh when I actually saw it. The plot wasn't as weak as I imagined it would be,
and everything really came together. The surprised death, though unexpected and sad, I have to admit felt needed to really pull the group together as a team and finally get stuff done.
And I was also shocked that every character (even Loki) seemed to have about the same amount of screen time. Some say that was also a draw back as it over whelms with
so many big names, but I thought they worked together well (especially during scenes where Tony would snark to the others). The only bits that had you leaving to the imagination,
was the end where you ask... 'WELL WHAT NEXT?' There's been talk of a sequel, though nothing is set in stone. I imagine it'll happen AFTER Iron Man 3 next summer,
Thor 2 shortly following, and Captain America 2 some time after that... No official Hulk movie yet... *facedesk* alkjdflkaj. Mark Ruffalo commented that they'd be INSANE
to NOT make an Avengers sequel, and with a record-shattering $200.3 million at the domestic box office (easily de-throwning HP 7p.2 with only $169.2 million), I simply agree.

The only thing left to add is that, being a Marvel film, DON'T LEAVE BEFORE THE CREDITS END. If you don't know this by now you're insane.
(If you don't live in the US, this may not count for you, considering the end scene was filmed AFTER it premiered outside of North America. Sorry 'bout that.)
Seriously. Movie of the century. GO SEE IT.

Roi's avengers review I archieved before I idiotically deleted the topic. I really only thought this would be the one she cared about. But oh well.. I can't undo what I have done. I guess I will learn from that.

I sucked in a deep breath, trying not to hyperventilate as I searched desperately for an escape route. Of course, there was none. Trying to ignore my knees knocking together, I turned to face the ominous figures. There were around six of them, standing in a tight ring around me. My back was pressed against the wall behind me, and I was trapped. I was well aware of the fearful glances of my classmates, but I ignored them, focused instead on my predicament. Why these people were after me, I wasn’t sure. I had never done anything, and it wasn’t like my parents were cops or anything. But for some reason, these people had picked me out from the hundreds at school. The sickening, heavy feeling of dread grew as I realized there really was no way out.
It had just been an average day. A bit boring, but average; then the announcement came over the crackling, static-filled speakers. Though it was somewhat garbled, like always, the teacher quickly grasped the message; code red. Code Red meant that there was an armed stranger…who had broken into the school. Small murmurs of panic filled the room as we realized that this wasn’t a drill; our drill wasn’t supposed to be until two weeks. No, this was real. And judging by the footsteps coming from down the hall, whoever had broken in was heading straight for us.
The teacher quickly gathered us up against the wall, assuring us that it would be okay. The pale hue of his skin and the cold sweat beading on his brow said otherwise, and we all became deathly still. Even the class clowns and troublemakers, who would take every opportunity to burst out with some stupid comment, were silent. I moved fractionally closer to a kid I vaguely recognized; Amanda something. Tears streamed down her pale cheeks, and she was grasping her knees with a white-knuckled grasp. “Hey, it’ll be okay,” I reassured softly.
I was shaking, trying to ignore the footsteps that were growing closer. For some reason, I felt the need to protect these people. I had to stay strong for them, at least. All of that false bravery disappeared as the door was kicked open. High-pitched, terrified screams cut through the air as black-clad figures burst into the room, waving guns. Our teacher tried to step in and stop them, but he was knocked aside with a deft blow from the butt of a gun. He collapsed to the ground, a small trickle of blood beginning to drip down his face. I sucked in a shaky breath, taking comfort in the fact that he was breathing, at least. Maybe they wouldn’t kill us…maybe.
Then, of course, they advanced. By now, many of us were crying hysterically. I was the only one that seemed semi-calm; though I was pale and trembling, I wasn’t screaming, and I seemed to be thinking clearly. Why am I so calm? It’s not like I’ve been in this situation before…why am I not screaming with everyone else? Everyone stopped screaming as one man pointed his gun at his. “Shut up or I shoot!” he commanded gruffly. No one hesitated in obeying; one person even passed out, face pale and bloodless as she collapsed. No one reacted to that either, apart from sneaking a fearful glance in her direction.
He gestured to me. “That one,” he said, now talking to the men behind him. I felt whatever color I had left in my face drain away, and I took a shaky step backward, only to find myself backed up against a wall. Which brings me back to the present. “Wh-what do you want with me?” I managed to get out, feeling my heart race as I gasped for breath. They didn’t respond, but I got the feeling they were grinning from behind their masks. I was shaking really badly now; I was barely able to stand up straight. My attention was focused completely on the guns glinting cruelly in their hands.
“Grab her.”
The two closest to me reached out, and I squeezed my eyes shut, lashing out blindly with a shaking fist. To my surprise, I made contact, soft flesh giving way beneath my panicked blow. One of them fell back, grunting as he tried to stem the flow of blood from his nose. I was hyperventilating now as the other grabbed me roughly. “No!” I shrieked, really starting to panic. This can’t be happening, this can’t be happening, I repeated wildly to myself. Please let the police show up… No one came.
I let out a cry of pain as my arms were wrenched behind me, held tight in the iron grip of the masked man. I struggled wildly, instinct taking over as I fought for escape. A wet cloth was pressed over my mouth and nose, and I quickly held my breath, my heart rising to my throat. Now they’re trying to drug me?! I shrieked inside of my head. Black spots danced in my vision as oxygen deprivation began to take its toll. Risking a small breath, the chemical fumes overwhelmed me, and I sank into blackness.
~~~~
I let out a soft moan, my head throbbing painfully. I opened my eyes, confused for a moment. I was strapped down to something resembling an examination table, surrounded by a bunch of freaky looking lab equipment and beeping monitors. Memories flashed through my head – the anonymous criminals breaking down the door, them grabbing me, a cloth shoved over my nose, me passing out…I sucked in a breath, trying to ignore the panic rising up inside of me. Where was I? What was going on?
“The subject is awake,” a voice to my left confirmed. I tried to turn my head to look, but was quickly reminded of the metal cuffs locking me down, the restraints over my ankles, stomach, wrists, and head. Electrodes had also been taped to my skin. My heart began to race as the awful feeling of being trapped and helpless washed over me. I tried to speak, but only managed a small sound, my mouth dry and my tongue feeling thick and heavy.
Judging by the heaviness in all my limbs, and the fog that enveloped my thoughts, I was probably drugged. This is not good, I thought with rising panic. Massive understatement. An urgent beeping filled the air suddenly, and concerned murmurs filled the air. “Evacuation D07,” a computerized voice announced, rather cheerfully. Evacuation? I wondered hazily. Then the building exploded.
Something must’ve happened in the explosions to screw with the control systems, because the metal cuffs popped open. I slid off the creepy examination table-like thing, stumbling and reeling like I was drunk; yeah, definitely still drugged. Amidst the confusion, no one paid much attention to me, instead focused on the flaming building, flying debris, and unconscious scientists. Drugged or not, I was going to escape this place. First being kidnapped, now this…my day just kept on getting better and better.
I’m not really sure what happened after that. Everything is kind of fuzzy, probably a result of the drugs. I do remember something whacked me in the head; a flying piece of the wall, maybe. Warm blood trickled from the spot, making the world spin a bit more violently. I fought the urge to be sick as I stumbled father away.
I only remember brief flashes from that point; pushing a crumbling section of the wall aside to reveal the sky, crossing an empty road, and finally making it to a neat-looking section of town; I couldn’t tell how far I had traveled to get there. It could’ve been feet, or it could’ve been miles. But I did know that I couldn’t go on anymore; blackness was starting to invade my vision, and I could barely move anymore. I stumbled up to a house, hoping that someone sympathetic was inside who could help me, call 911 maybe…I knocked weakly on the door and fell to my knees, gasping for breath as blood continued to trickle from my head.
The door opened, and I caught a glimpse of worried blue eyes before I passed out.
~~~~
Once again, I woke up with a pounding headache. Pain pulsated from the back of my head, where I had gotten hit with something when the building exploded…right! The explosion, the kidnapping, the escape…I bit my lip as I surveyed the small, cozy room I had been placed in. Okay…so they hadn’t called 911; this obviously wasn’t a hospital room. Which left one question; where was I? I had vague memories of walking and knocking on a door, but neither one gave me clues as to where I was. I just hoped these people were friendly.
Wow, I’m getting paranoid, I thought, shaking my head. I winced as pain shot through my skull, increased dramatically from the small movement. I let out a small breath before I bit my lip, trying to ignore the throbbing. I gingerly touched the lump on my head, and was surprised to find that bandages had been wrapped around it. I ran my fingers lightly over the gauze, wondering who would go to this much trouble for a random person that passed out on their front step.
Fiery red hair caught my attention, and my eyes shot towards the door, which was now open a crack, someone’s head stuck through the opening. Curious green eyes met mine, and I clenched my fists. “Hey, Uncle Barry! Aunt Iris!” the ginger shouted, turning to face the hallway. “I think she’s awake!” Barely a second later, a blonde head joined the red one. I recognized the bright blue eyes from earlier; he was the one that had opened the door.
“Where’s Aunt Iris?” the redhead asked.
“Had to run to work for a second,” the other responded, his gaze straying towards me. I shrunk back into my pillows, feeling a little self-conscious.
“Wh-who are you?” I rasped, my mouth still dry and my tongue feeling thick and useless. I swallowed as I stared at the two.
“I’m Wally,” the redhead responded, moving closer to my bed. His green eyes stared at me curiously. “Who are you?” he added. The older let out a small chuckle, placing a hand on Wally’s shoulder. “Slow down, kid,” he chastised lightly, a friendly glint in his blue eyes. I felt myself relax; he looked trustworthy.
“I’m Jace…” I said slowly. “Uh…sorry for, uh, passing out on your front step…” I added, my cheeks flushing a bright red color.
“You kidding? You’re the most interesting thing that’s happened this week!” Wally said, a grin appearing amidst his freckles.
“Uh, thanks, I guess…” I responded, trailing off awkwardly.
“What happened?” Wally asked, leaning in curiously. His green eyes studied my face, as if searching for answers, and my cheeks flushed a deeper shade of red. “That’s...well…it’s complicated,” I managed to get out, stumbling over the words.
“You can tell us,” the older man said invitingly. I hesitated, then nodded.
“Well, I was at school, and some people with guns broke down the door and kidnapped me. I woke up in this lab-type place that blew up, I think I got a concussion, and I think I walked for a while.” I frowned. “Not sure though. Then I passed out on your porch.”
“I didn’t hear about any kidnappings near Central…” the man said thoughtfully.
“Maybe she’s from Gotham?” Wally suggested, the idea seeming to only flit through his brain before his gaze focused on me again. I frowned. “Central? Gotham? …Where are those? I’ve never heard of them,” I said slowly, wondering if this was some kind of joke.
The redhead’s forehead creased in confusion. “You’ve never heard of Gotham or Central?” he repeated, disbelief edging his voice. I shook my head, and he stared at me incredulously. “You know, Central City? Home of the Flash?” he pressed. At my blank look, he continued. “Gotham? Batman’s territory?” That one made me frown.
“Batman’s just a comic book character,” I stated bluntly, now incredibly confused. My growing headache didn’t help. “He’s not real.” Both of them stared at me in shock.
“Of course he is!” Wally burst out. “Have you ever watched the news?!”
“Duh! But it’s never once mentioned Batman,” I responded heatedly. Wally would have responded, but the older man stopped him. “Jace…do you remember anything at all about being kidnapped?” he asked.
I frowned. “Sorta…before the building exploded, someone said something about “the subject” waking up…” I responded uncertainly, wracking my brain as I tried to recall the fuzzy memories.

....Wow, that's long. Something I was writing and sent to someone...ignore the weird formatting.

...Anyways. xD Here's what I copied:

OOC: Oh snap! I finally see where the story is going. *facepalm* Nice going, Rose! This oughta get some Draaamaa going. >D

Derek nodded absently, choosing not to say something because, frankly, he was out of good ideas at the moment. He looked from one comrade to the other and wondered somewhere in the back of his mind whether they’d be able to find such an elusive group of vampires. “How can they possibly stay hidden, though? I mean, if you think about it, a group of adults traveling into the hospital every now and then must be suspicious. Do you think it’s possible they live in town or near it?”

Janessa thought for a moment before saying, “Well, that’s a start.” She listened to Derek’s doubts and answered after a few seconds more, “They most likely do live in town, seeing as no one has noticed a thing for a while. The age group could be a bit iffy, though…” she trailed off, trying to think. Perhaps one of the others would have a better idea as to their ages. “I do think you guys are right, though. Our first priority should be NightShade Medical.”

~~

Zac couldn’t help but crack a grin as he noticed Luna ignoring him. Though he continued to follow her all the same. “Hey, Luna! Am I annoying you?” He called towards her, simply to make conversation but also to have something of a laugh. He saw Jaimie, Slash, and Rafe behind him, and noticed quickly that Tyler was now beside him. He always liked Tyler, since the kid was so enthusiastic and outgoing. Their personalities were somewhat similar, and Zac found that although sending puns back and forth with Luna was fun, he could have a much better time just conversing with Tyler. “I know, right?” he replied with the same grin he had cracked moments ago.

Slash couldn’t help but let a smile pass as he followed Rafe out the door. “She really is feisty, isn’t she?” he said, looking out past the door before he stepped over the threshold. “Well, I don’t blame her,” he said a short pause later. “I’m hungry as well. Though it would look a bit less obvious if she wore her shoes some places.” He let a short and somewhat quiet laugh cross his lips, and for some reason John felt he hadn’t done so in a while.

~~

Ashton nodded, agreeing with Sunny and Lacy. “Yeah, sounds good,” he said a bit more to himself than anything, although he meant it to be louder. He wondered to himself why he was so prone to bloodlust even though he should be used to it by now. After all, he was the oldest in the coven if you miscounted Sunny. That meant that if the others could handle it, he should be able to just as well… right? For some reason, he had a harder time than the others, and it irritated him to no end because the reasons eluded him.

Isa was quite happy on the other hand. The innocent, social vampire of the group was skipping her way behind the others, not able to stand waiting any longer to get to their destination. Although she chose not to say much in agreement with the others, she did manage a, “Yup!” She thought her opinion was pretty much spoken of already, since the others held one similar to hers. Sunny was right. They needed to restock.

~~

Travis couldn’t surpress a genuine laugh as he heard Nessa’s response. “Well, I have been preparing for the perfect summer swim. You up to going to the lake later?” He said, unable to keep the smirk off his face either. He let his voice slide out smoothly, as it normally did, even when he wasn’t conscious of it. Nessa was in fact one of the best friends he had, and honestly, he was surprised with himself for not calling her sooner into the summer vacation. He decided to convey this by saying, “Sorry I didn’t call earlier. Don’t know what came over me.” He let another small chuckle out before going silent to allow Nessa time to respond.

~~

Carrie’s face suddenly brightened as she listened to Jackson’s suggestion of a day at the lake with Chelsea. “Sounds awesome! Where do you want to meet? If I’m not mistaken, Chelsea should be off soon. And if not,” she added in a low voice so as to sound humorously mysterious, “we can always find ways to persuade her boss to let her off early.” She grinned to herself.
