Zasshu sensed something was wrong, and tried to nudge his son awake. But when the truth reared its ugly head, his resolve shattered.

"Zach... no!" Zasshu kept trying to nudge Zach, refusing to believe his son was dead. "Zach, don't... don't die on me! You can't die on me! Please!"

This went on for seemingly forever, but eventually Zasshu regretfully gave up and layed next to Zach, laying his head on Zach's neck.

"Oh, Zach..." Zasshu whispered. "No, please... you're my son... my first born son... I love you..."

And for the first time ever in so very long, Zasshu began to shed tears. None of the other pack members had ever seen their leader cry, or ever shed a single tear before. But this was Zachary, Cheyanne and Zasshu's first born son - and when it came straight down to family, Zasshu was much more emotionally involved. Zasshu hadn't cried since he lost his first mate, Kiime, and before that his parents, and both losses were many years ago.

Zasshu cried softly into Zach's neck with his eyes closed and ears layed back. But even still, Zasshu refused to give up hope for his dear son. He would remain ever vigilent.

"Please, Zach... please, don't die... I love you, son..." Zasshu whispered into Zach's ear, still shedding tears quietly.

As Limber was waiting to see what happened, she could hear Zasshu Crying. She had never heard him cry before. Something must have gone wrong, she was very worried for him, Cheyanne, Ash, and her pups, Little and so vulnerable. She was worried for everyone, but not herself. She was thinking for a long time, "What was going on?" She finally decided to go see what was wrong. "Ash, watch the pups please. I'm warning you, Kenai is quite the escape artist..." She told him, and she went to go see Zasshu and Cheyanne. "Hey, are you guys--" She stopped in the middle of her sentence, seeing Zasshu laying with his son, the boy not moving, not breathing, and the father still Shedding tears. "Zasshu, I'm so sorry. Don't worry, he is happy now, no pain. You will learn it was better for him soon..." She said in a soothing voice. She lightly nuzzled him, and told him to call her if he ever needed her. She returned back to her pups and Ash.

Cheyanne stared at Limber. "Oh, ok. I guess Zasshu's your mate now. He should always come to you when he has a problem. I get it. Fine, have him." Cheyanne turned her body and walked away with her head hung low.

Ash was playing with his pups.Kenai was on his back biting his ears."Hey!Get off my ears!"ash said playfully.

Ash looked at Limber with his ears flattened."These are yours now."he growled as he gave the pups to Limber."Appearantly your new mate is Zasshu."he said.Ash walked over to Cheyanne."She took Zasshu from you didn't she?"he said.

Ash walked outside of the den."I'm gonna go drink some water."he said.Ash walked to where the pack always drinks water.Ash sat down and looked at the reflection of himself.

"Now wait just a darn minute! What was that all about?" Zasshu said harshly, though still teary eyed.

Zasshu got up and ran after Cheyanne and stopped her, then sat down next to her and layed his head atop hers.

"Now Cheyanne... that kinda stung..." Zasshu cooed softly. "Limber was just trying to be kind is all... but don't you ever, ever think for one minute that I love anyone anywhere the same way I love you. You'll always be my mate Cheyanne. You and only you. Not Limber. Just YOU. No, Limber is Ash's mate. You are MY mate, and I won't let anyone else have you."

That said, Zasshu licked Cheyanne's cheek lovingly and gave her a soft nose kiss, then went to lay his head on top of her neck. And just then, just a few more tears fell from Zasshu's eyes.

"Oh, Cheyanne..." Zasshu sniffled quietly. "Zachary... he... he's... -sniff- No! H-He just can't be dead! He can't be...! There's gotta be something else we can do to save him... there's just gotta be..." Zasshu cried ever so softly into Cheyanne's neck.

"Ash! No, I don't love him, I love you! Why would you think that? Please! Come back!" She started to cry. she went after him after she stashed her pups in a safe place. "Please! Come back!" She cried to him. She ran to him after telling Cheyanne it wasn't what she thought. Zasshu was all Cheyannes. "Now, I have to catch up to Ash. Ash Wait!" Limber sprinted up to him. "Ash, how could you think that? I love you, and only you. I don't love Zasshu. I like him as an Alpha. But I love you. Please, come back. Lets go, Please!" She said crying into his fur on his chest.

Cheyanne smiled at him. She went and found Limber. "Limber, I want you to become an omega wolf." She said.

Zasshu layed down next to his son Zachary once again and closed his eyes in sadness and loss. Then suddenly, Zach's eyes fluttered open, and he look over at his father Zasshu weakly.

"D...Dad...?" Zach whispered hoarsely.

Zasshu's eyes then shot open.

"Zachary!!"

I'm not ready to let Zach die yet. So sad. Plus, I had a couple plans for him later on. If that's alright.

Cheyanne walked back tothe den and saw her son."Zachary! " she yelled crying. "I'm so happy your alive!" She added still crying. "Then why are ya cryin ma?" Zach asked. "Oh, there called tears of joy, son." Cheyanne said laughing through her tears.

Zasshu smiled weakly, closing his eyes as just a bit more silent tears of joy dripped down his cheeks.

"Oh, Zach... we thought we lost you forever..."

Cheyanne did the same. That next morning, as the snow melted away, Zach was well and rested. Now that all the snow was gone, and all grass could be seen, Zach, his brother and his sisters play all day long. Cheyanne sent out hunt groups out to hunt. As the days past, Cheyanne's kids got older. They were now teens. Exploring the teen games like, well, Cheyanne didn't know she wasn't a teen.

Zasshu licked Cheyanne's cheek fur lovingly.

"I'm glad to see our kids strong and well, happy as can be." Zasshu said, then rubbed up against Cheyanne. "And you know... we haven't had much time just to ourselves for a while... might we have some alone time tonight, my love?" Zasshu cooed, giving Cheyanne a smirk and a small wink.

Cheyanne smiled and rested her head on Zasshu's shoulder. "Yes of course. " Cheyanne looked up at him then started to laugh. That night, she and Zasshu walked to the river, where in the moonlight was a really nice place.
