Bashkei halted immediately, appalled and enraged at the sight before him. His daughter lay in in a crumpled, unconscious heap. The blood boiled into his eyes, and he saw the world in red. His muzzle wrinkled and he bared giant fangs in a snarl. The sound the old wolf made was like that of a roar, rumbling deep from his massive chest. The grey fur bristled, and he stared, death his intent as he looked at Titan. A few words, clear and snarling made it clear he would kill for his pup. "Step away from my daughter! I swear, if you've laid a paw on her, I'll see to it you'll be floating downriver!!"
Tai could only gasp, not just from the malice of Titan's mind seeping through her mental shield, but their mother, so vulnerable.
Kodi's eyes darkened. His heart beat fresh, blood pounding into his ears. For the first time, his behavior turned savage, and he snarled. He kept his head high and ears straight as he snarled, eyes wide and wild.

Titan, clearly not liking the odds of a whole family against one, turned tail and ran off.
Cachen ran to his mother and whimpered. "Momma?" he asked, tears in his eyes.

Bashkei smirked, letting his body relax. He let his gaze fall to his daughter, and sadness overfilled his form. Joining his grandson, the older wolf leaned down and licked his cub's cheek. He even nudged her with his nose. "Kate...?" he murmured, eyes full of sadness and regret.
Katie slowly came back into consciousness. The voices of both her little son and her Father brought her all the way. "Cachen...?" she murmured, heavy-lidded eyes looking at the pup, before turning to Bashkei. "Papa..." she said warmly, gently licking his nose.

"Momma!" yelled Cachen, licking her happily.
Lena quickly joined her brother, licking Katie.
Balto looked to Kodi, motioning for him to go to his mate.

Bashkei smiled warmly and nudged his daughter's face, affectionately nuzzling her.
Both Tai and Kai came up and began to lick and nuzzle their mother.
Katie smiled softly, nuzzling her pups as they licked her. "Are you all alright?"
Kodi took a half step back, looking away. He seemed to nervous, too afraid to look at her. He could have been there-should have been there- to protect her. Maybe, if he had been there...she would look less haggard, look less terrified. Kodi also couldn't stand the thought of what Titan may have done to her.

"We're fine." said Cachen. "We got a little hurt stopping the big mean dog but your momma made us better."
Lenatei appeared to Kodi. "Kodi...I am Katie's mother, Lenatei. We've never met, and of course I'm dead." she said, showing her wings and halo. "Anyway, I've been watching you and Katie for a long time now."

Katie nodded, giving a big smile. "I asked her to help you out...My Mama's been helping me, and keeping me company."
Kodi's eyes widened lightly, before relaxing. "And what do you want with me?" he asked, a bit unnerved. He really thought he was going to get it from his would be mother-in-law.

Lena nodded. "Wow...grandma does look like me and you."
"Are you hurt momma?" asked Cachen, concerned.
"To thank you." said Lenatei, smiling.

Katie chuckled softly, nuzzling Lena. "Yes, you do. There's more to me naming you and your sister after her than looks, though." looking at Cachen's concerned face, Katie wavered. Her insides and outside were achy, not to mention the pain in her ribs form the shocking... And, the 'M' that had been etched into her shoulder. "No," she said, smiling tiredly. "No worse for the ware."
Kodi looked confused, and a bit surprised. "Thank me? But, if you've seen everything, then you know about..." he dare not say it, feeling too terrible.

Cachen licked her face. "I'm glad, I was really worried!"
Lenatei put a paw on his shoulder. "All relatshipes have their ups and downs. But you've made my girl so happy during the good times, which far outweigh the bad." she said. "And you traveled clear from Nome just to save her, not to mention travling to the capital to get the antitoxin before." she said. "And of course, I'm thankful for my grandchildren as well."

Katie smiled, closing her eyes. "I'm so proud of you, Cachen...being the first to run headlong into danger, for my sake." she licked his nose softly, before becoming extremely fatigued. Her muscles ached, and her bones felt brittle.
Kodi smiled lightly. How could he constantly fight with Katie? How could he constantly jeopardize the life she gladly gave everything for?

Balto came over and nuzzled his daughter-in-law. "I'm glad to see you again." he said. "We were all worried but we're glad you're ok...though that other dog put up a big fight."
Lenatei smiled. "I always listen to my daughter's prayers, even when she's mad at you, she still keeps you in her prayers and her heart." she said. "And I'd never be angry with you, I understand everything that's happened." she said. "Even when you cheated on Katie, I forgave that transgression." she said. "Kodi, you regret your bad choices and don't want to make the same mistake again, that is enough for me, and Katie too."

Katie smiled tiredly, nuzzling her Father-in-law back. "I'm just glad you all came." she looked into Balto's eyes, letting all the truth of her ordeal be known only to him.
Kodi nodded, giving Lenatei a half smile.

Balto smiled. "We'd never have let you down, your family of course."
"You're too hard on yourself dear." said Lenatei. "You must learn to forgive yourself."

Katie nodded, her eyes growing dark, and sad. "But...we have to go back." she said, ears pinned down. "He...he has..."
Kodi huffed, looking at Katie. "How can I? She can, yea... but, I don't know why... or how she can forgive me so easy!"
