Yes. It's not bad, and I liked it when I was a kid (until I was 10, mind) but it's definitely over-rated. I've seen all the movies and read all the books except for the last one (I lazily read through the sixth) but really, I think Rowling went about it all wrong.
The first three, maybe four books were good for the audience they were aimed at. But then they got darker, yet... IDK. Something changed about them, I suppose. I thought it was supposed to be a 'fun' book about modern wizards that kids could relate to, but then it just became spooky and weird that no-one could relate to.
But back more to the point, I think yes, while the writing is good, they are good books, I think they are certainly overrated. The point is, I think there are better books more deserving of the success HP got.

Of course they are over rated, almost as much as a Series of Unfortunate events Seriously, the setting is stupid (Hogwarts), and plot is full of holes. For instance Azkaban is a maximum security prison, yet they can fly in, blow open a door, and fly out with no trouble at all. Or the time travel device they had, seriously, why didn't they use it to go back and prevent: Cedric dying, Sirius dying, Dumbledore from dying, anyone from dying? It was a get out of jail free stamp that was only used once, though it was stated it could be used more than once, and yet fell off the face of the earth after one time. Oh and you could find a more interesting cast of bricks than these people.
