We should assume that either Kodi and Dusty are one, or that Dusty is neutral. Either way, there is no solid evidence... just quick glances, smiles, and even gestures to Kodi or to Ralph. THIS. Thank you - I'm glad someone else actually noticed this. I think a lot of people notice this. In my experience, the "They looked at each other!" argument is much more often used in caricatures and sattire than in actual arguments by those advocating Kodi and Dusty as a couple (and I will admit here that when I do see it used I try to discourage it because it just makes all of us look dumb by association). Granted, the fanart - including some of my own - uses the scene with their one-on-one chat so much because, admittedly, it's the best one of the two of them in the movie. Juuchan17 wrote: To be honest, doesn't this sort of thing happen with co-workers all the time? Just because you do one of those things [quick glance, smile, gestures, etc.] to someone of the opposite sex does not mean that you're in love with them - it's probably just some little thing that all dogs do, that's all. Aren't people the same way? Yeah, I've been the victim of that myself, so I have to agree with you there. This is exactly why I favor arguments based on their personalities, or at least what can be seen of them. His sense of responsibility, her sense of fun; let's face it, if one likes the "odd couple," the two of them would complete each other nicely. Juuchan17 wrote: Dragon Tamer wrote: Now looking back over some of the more, ah, cynical posts, I recognize that Jucchan does have one point I can agree with: love at first sight fanfics are rather lame. Not only that, but stories of that nature both feed and feed on unrealistic expectations of romance. On the other hand, it's unfair to categorize them so broadly; some fanfics about them are well-written. I think redwolf03's story about them, "The Right Time," serves as a good model; it establishes that they have a history together, and it works with something more substantial and worth addressing than the mushy-gooey "Oooh, I love you" junk. I had a feeling you'd agree with that, DT. One could say that Balto and Jenna's relationship was just a little like this in the first movie [it was rather sudden...], but at least they did have some sort of a development and not a simple "love at first sight" thing. Well, Jenna's support for Balto may have just grown only because it seemed that other dogs wanted to pair her up with either the town zero [Balto] or the town "hero" [Steele] because... well, they too were fan-shippers and guess who she'd been seen with? Balto, on the other hand, was sort of "at first sight". He was a brooding Romeo, wishing that he could just gather the courage to speak his mind and probably woo her [though I wonder if he knew what the word meant... or what the feeling he was feeling was]. At least Boris knew what it was with a mile away. Once realizing what the most important thing to Jenna was - Rosy, if you didn't already know - Balto definitely used that to his advantage and had a new drive to try and achieve that sledding dream of his. Fast-forward 45 minutes later, and we all know that after non-existent blood, sweat, some obvious tears, and nearly dying at least two or three times... it definitely worked. Not sure I agree with you there. The way they talked to one another early on - if you can call it talking - makes it seem likely that they had some history of one kind or another. At the very least, each knew who the other was, and we can infer that Balto had been in contact with Jenna before from the fact that Rosy knew him too (after all, how many strays have names that everyone uses?) and was comfortable around him. Juuchan17 wrote: Now, to connect this to the point of this topic: Kodi's love interest(s) and what's best for him.
He never admits that he loves a girl/guy/goose/whatever, but we know that he takes his sledding job super seriously [his sledmates beg to differ and ended up joking and making fun of him for it; they end up nearly eating their words about 15 min later when their jobs are now on the line] because it means so much to him. He looks up to his dad and probably that's where the sledding love comes from. Watch the flashback during "You Don't Have To Be A Hero" and it shows that bonding It makes him feel special, important, a part of something bigger than just himself [sorta like Aleu and the wolf pack in WQ... sorta?].
Isn't that feeling and sense of importance almost like love in a way?
Also, "The Right Time" is an excellent recommendation. I'm not afraid to admit that I've written stories with "love at first sight", but this method is more for a hopeless romantic type of character [or a naive one - you know what I mean: one that's only read/heard of fairy tales and thinks that a handsome/beautiful love interest will arrive on a white sled and instantly sweep him/her [most likely HER] away into the sunset blah-blah-blah...]. Kodi, unfortunately, is not one of them - sorry, fan-shippers! He seems like a tough nut to crack, and one would probably have to tolerate his talking of sledding all the time. No ordinary gal would suit him - she'd have to be someone heavily compatible to him, in my opinion. Well if it comes to that, who better than someone who was in the same line of work and would know all the lingo? I mean if you need something to talk about when you're not getting lovey-dovey, methods of doing something important to your well-being and that of others strike me as a good way to go. For example, I know a married couple - a few such couples in fact, but one in particular - who are involved in EMS. Whether that's how they met I don't know, but it seems to work well for them to both be involved in the same line of work. And out of the better relationships I've had, all the really good ones (which sadly were rather few) were with fellow writers, ladies who would just as soon spend an hour chatting about the intricacies of, say, dragons and centaurs as dine by candle light. Besides, I think it's a bit of a stretch to say that Kodi would ALWAYS be talking about work. I'd have to take a look at it again, but I think the cases where he was talking about it were mostly cases where it made sense to be; it doesn't necessarily follow that he would talk about it 100% of the time. Besides, if memory serves, she talked about the job a lot too. It's just that initially they were singing opposite tunes. Juuchan17 wrote: Whew... Okay, I'm done ranting a bit. And also, thank you, Roi~ I personally think this topic is redundant and pointless, but as long as no one goes into berserk-fan-shipper mode, we'll be good - honest!

And @ Kodi_Lennon: Don't worry about it. I don't have my gender listed, so it's not your fault. I don't know why people feel it important to note what my gender is. It's not like it makes a difference whither I'm male or female. Perhaps it's a matter of having one's facts in order. Kind of like the humiliation one might experience, say, after mistakenly saying that Einstein invented the lightbulb. And no need to thank me; I just hated to see this sort of discussion be closed down when it was actually going smoothly.

Dusty was the first to open up to Kodi's plan in Wings of Change.

That argument is often put forward, and although it says little in and of itself, it's not what I would call something to throw aside either. I don't know if this has been put forward yet, but if you aren't a fan of Kodi/Dusty, what kind of characteristics do you think would make an ideal girl for Kodi?

Sigh.... If only the relationship between Kodi and Dusty was more obvious in the movie, then that would answer and explain so many questions about Kodi and Dusty.

I see. Maybe that's the reason most of these topics exist.

Maybe that's why we get creative about things that aren't mentioned in the movies. Not to mention other sites on Animation Source. Animation Source is kinda like a place where your imagination takes you places man.

^This seems rather off-topic. It seems more like a personal conversation than a debate on this topic.
I still think this is a dumb topic that should have just been left to die. It's a question that will result in a obvious answer, and it pretty much has. Like Balto 4 topics, it has been stated for many years that people see these two characters together, and many people DO already make fan images/art of them together. The pair may be un-official, but with many fans it is.

Toshiko-Sama wrote: Dusty was the first to open up to Kodi's plan in Wings of Change. She was? How, exactly? Because she followed him to the door of the boiler room, before stopping and looking back at Kirby and Ralph? I never thought this was a legit argument, considering both of them also had very concerned looks on their faces - as well as the fact that they were just complaining about being in pain about 5 minutes ago. They just didn't want or need to get up. They were thinking the exact same thing as Dusty, she's just the one who happened to follow Kodi to the door. I don't think it means anything. xD Personally I don't think Kodi's really relationship material, considering we don't see him in any situations that suggest he is. I ship him with Kirby, but that's just because I like the idea of them being together xD It's not really anything serious. The only serious romance (if one could call it that) was between Boris and Stella. And of course Ralph and Dusty were supposedly in a relationship - one which I think should've been brought to light more throughout the movie. But again, romance wasn't the focus on the sled team, and again I don't think Kodi really cares about romantic relationships. And I agree with DT, this topic is a little bit different xD If you want it to die, why post in it? That's not really "leaving it to die" is it?

I have to agree with Rebel. Kodi is not relationship material, as he shows no interest. Yeah, sure, the movie shows Dusty and Ralph sharing that, I guess you could call it nuzzle, but even that doesn't mean they're together. Though a lot of people like to ship them, and hey, that's fine. As for people pairing up Kodi and Dusty? Why? Then again, maybe they find some sort of bond at the end of the movie, who knows, but in the movie, there is NOTHING to suggest that they show or have any interest in each other.
This is a question that has no right or wrong answer. And just because it's been brought up before, doesn't mean it should "be left to die" Really? Has Rebel said, why bother posting if you feel that way. Not unlike those constant Balto 4 topics, though a small few actually makes sense.
For a topic like this, who should Kodi be with, no one is right, and no one is wrong. It is what it is.
