Aurora sighed and shook her head, closing her eyes softly. She had hoped Glaedr would have said something...anything. Just the thought that he had tried and failed would have been better than not trying. She turned away from the forest and all that had happened, staring gently at the silhouettes of the clan's caves. Her thoughts drifted back to Atun and she realised with a gasp that she had left him on his own. Without turning back to Glaedr she began to hurry down to the caves.

Reluctance swelled up in Glaedr and he soon found he didn't even want to follow. He stared at the faint tracks on the ground that led in the direction Pheonix went. 'Maybe I should've at least tried.' He thought, frowning slightly. He soon followed though, for he realised that Ember must've been scared on her own.

Aurora slowed to a gentle trot as she entered the cave. 'Atun?' she called quietly. The whole clan was huddled at the far end, trying to stay warm and safe, but a small figure was huddled by himself in the corner. He raised his head as his name was spoken, pulling himself to his feet and wandering quickly to his adopted parent. Aurora licked him gently on the top of his head before quickly picking him up and carrying him to a corner of the cave. We are a pair aren't we, two little rejects she thought, raising her head as she thought about Phoenix on his own, another reject. Maybe that's why I didn't want him to go, we share something in common.
Atun had been waiting patiently for Aurora to return. As usual he had settled down away from the rest of the clan, they were sick and tired of him anyway. As soon as he heard Aurora speak his name he felt safer. After she had wrapped her warm body around him he began to drift off to sleep, but couldn't help noticing how distracted Aurora was. Glaedr didn't appear for some time, but when he finally did Aurora didn't seem to want to look at him. Atun slipped into sleep with worry settled heavily on his mind.

Glaedr entered the clan's territory, looking for Ember. "Ember!" He called. He smiled when his younger sister ran out to him. 'At least someone wants to see me.' He thought. He knew Ember probably wasn't scared while he was gone, she was probably comforting other clan members. He knew she always stood up for herself and others and wouldn't hesitate to fight for what's right, but Glaedr didn't want to lose her and so he worried about her. Ember was the only family he had left.
Ember ran up to her brother and hugged him when she heard him call her. "I thought you were gonna die." She said.
"Oh gee, thanks." Glaedr replied sarcastically.

Aurora heard Glaedr arrive and couldn't help but avert her eyes. She lay her head down and pretended to be asleep, waiting for Glaedr to enter the cave. She had curled up, like Atun, away from the rest of the clan. She was torn between sleeping and searching for Phoenix, even though she felt exhausted. Why did all this happen now, I'm so confused she thought, the voice in her head a mere whimper.

Pheonix watched from his place in the shadows, the clan seemed peaceful at night. He had thought about how he had left earlier, not even bothering to attempt entering the clan territory without all eyes falling on him. He had seen how much Aurora wanted him there, he could see it in her eyes. He sighed and shook his head before slowly and reluctantly stepping out of the shadows. He wandered into the clan's territory, luckily most of them were asleep. He spotted the green male he had seen earlier with Aurora, and a small red dragon beside him.
Glaedr soon became aware of another dragon's presense, one that was not of the clan. He snarled silently, not realising it was Pheonix and spun around harshly to face him before tackling him to the ground.
Ember was terrified, she had never seen her brother so angry before. Heck, she'd never even seen Glaedr viciously attack another dragon.

Aurora's head snapped to the commotion. She couldn't make out what was going on, but she saw flashes of red and green. In an instant she was on her feet, bowling Atun over in the process, and rushing towards the two. She drew close, but paused with terror. Glaedr and Phoenix were fighting with a ferocity she had never seen in Glaedr. Is this the same dragon I met two years ago she found herself thinking, but shook the thought away. She waited for the right moment and suddenly lunged forwards to snap at Glaedr's neck, not to harm him but to pull him away. She wasn't sure if her jaws had even closed around him, she just jerked her head backwards.
Atun had drifted into a happy and warm sleep, only to be woken by Aurora leaping to her feet in a hurry. He followed her, worry etched into his face. He came to an eventual halt beside Ember, wondering what on earth was happening. All he knew was that for some reason Glaedr was fighting with a stranger and Aurora seemed very angry about it.

When Glaedr was pulled back he took a moment to calm down and soon realised it was the red dragon he had seen earlier. His muscles relaxed and the angered expression left his face, however the hatred remained there in his eyes, glaring straight at Pheonix. Maybe the fact that Pheonix was a dangerous rogue made Glaedr uneasy, or maybe he was just jealous.
Pheonix growled silently, getting to his feet and shaking the dirt from his scales. 'Pathetic dragon! Who does he think he is?!' Pheonix thought angrily. He soon calmed himself and folded his wings in. "Look before you leap." Growled Pheonix.

Aurora found herself flying backwards as she pulled Glaedr away. She landed heavily on her shoulder, jarring pain running through her body. It wasn't too bad and she quickly recovered, struggling to her feet. She was relieved to see that Glaedr had calmed, but he still seemed angry. It took her a few moments to noticed Atun and Ember had joined them. 'Ember, maybe you shoukd take Atun and yourself back to bed. It's late and there is nothing to see' she whispered softly.

Ember nodded silently and nudged Atun in the side gently. "Cmon Atun, let's go." She whispered.
Glaedr only replied with a small growl, he really hated that guy. "Did you really think a rogue would be welcome here." He snapped rudely.

Atun flinched at the nudge, but he quickly regained himself. He nodded shyly at Ember, following her slowly and sending Aurora angry yet scared glances. The two males seemed so tensed up and he was scared for Aurora, but angry at her for sending him away. I'm seven, I'm not a little kid anymore he thought, staring at the ground intently.
'Glaedr please, remember he did help us' Aurora hissed in his ear. She kept her gaze away from Phoenix's blazing eyes, remembering how drawn she had been to them before and it wouldn't have helped the situation. All the same, the memory lingered of how intense yet soft the eyes were. She couldn't help but raise her gaze, her green eyes locking on Phoenix's liquid rubies.

Glaedr muttered something inaudible before walking away from the two.
Pheonix watched Glaedr leave before his gaze fell on Aurora. While she was quite interested in his, Pheonix was interested in hers. Her eyes reminded him of his love, who was long dead and forgotten by all except Pheonix.

Aurora knew she shouldn't, knew that it would only make the situation worse, but she didn't force her eyes to leave Phoenix's. Once again their eyes had met and the swirl of emotions lain long dormant within her flared intensely. There was such sadness in his eyes, yet a curiosity that she half hoped wasn't about her own eyes. It was the sadness she found herself thinking about most, and the more she thought about it the more questions bubbled inside of her until they were close to breaking free. What could condem a dragon to hold such a sadness in his gaze? she wondered.

Pheonix sighed and sat down, he could see that she was deep in thought. Probably thinking about him. "I understand you may want to know why I'm such an anti-social guy," He said, his voice barely louder than a mutter. "I, like all dragons, once lived in a clan. But that was when I was only a hatchling, my parents were keeping me a secret for they knew I wouldn't be worthy in the alpha's eyes for I was smaller than most chicks. My clan was cruel, and as soon as I was old enough to walk I began to wander about and very soon, they discovered that I hadn't had the aproval of the alpha. My parents stood up for me, trying to protect me..My parents, and the clan, fought. I ran away while the older dragons were fighting, and as soon as everything was quiet, I returned. Everyone was dead, including my parents. I grew up alone, and when I was 17...I met Emily. It was love at first sight I guess, but we couldn't possibly be together for she was a part of a clan and I was a rogue. She finally began to sneek out and see me each night, and we would go down to the lake together and look up at the stars." He chuckled before continuing. "We used to see what pictures the stars made...But, she was killed when the clan found out about our secret meetings. It was all my fault I guess...If I hadn't neared her clan's territory, I would never have met her and her death wouldn't have taken place."

'I wouldn't have said anti-social' Aurora started, glaring at Glaedr. She listened to Phoenix's story with growing nausea. She pictured Atun faced with the same situation as Phoenix had with his clan, but had to stop when she saw his unmoving body in her mind. She couldn't imagine a clan being so harsh towards a hatchling. She wandered over to Phoenix and sat beside him, leaning on him gently. 'I'm sorry, I really am' she muttered, unknowing of what else to say. She glanced at the sky momentarily, scanning to stars but unsure as to what she was looking for.
