"Just don't look down," Ranger said concernedly, "We are really close to getting there. Keep moviing."

Kali nodded blankly, and started walking, looking anywhere but down.
Sadie started walking as Kali did, her light fur being blown by the wind that was stonger up here, and colder.

The dogs soon made it to the top of the incline, and were greeted by a rickety, old robe bridge. It led to a smaller mountain in the center of a large valley area. Perched precariously at the top was a medium sized cabin. The bridge was there simply because the sides of the hill the cabin sat on were too steep to build a path on.
Ranger stopped before the bridge, watching it sway in the wind. "Everybody else go first and I'll stay last in case something happens. The bridge is strong, but those are some wicked crosswinds at the moment. Old Ira lives in that cabin."
He paused for a moment, studying the cabin through narrowed eyes for a moment.
"Well, let's go. Who's first?"

Kali stepped up bravely, her mouth opening as if to offer, but then stepped back, fear overcoming her.
Tally looked at the bridge apprehensively, then moved towards it. "I-I'll go," she said, her voice a bit shaky. She placed a creamy paw on the bridge, closing her brown eyes momentarily in trepidation. She was soon standing completely on the bridge, feeling as if she was about to be blown of from the sheer force of the wind that tugged at her fur.

Tucker went next, stepping out onto the creaky bridge cautiously. "Why do I have to be the smallest dog here?" He whimpered softly. Ranger smiled. "You all will be fine. Just don't think about falling and keep to the center. Kali, you're up next."

Kali pressed her ears back against her head, taking a cautious step back. "Uh, I think I'll just wait here. You can tell me what Ira says when you come back," she said quickly.
Tally was now midway across the bridge when it swung unexpectedly as a stronger gust of wind blew at it. She yelped in surprise, loosing her footing. She slipped, dangling over the drop, only her front paws scrabbling against the worn wood keeping herself from going 2-D. She scrabbled uselessly, struggling to pull herself up.

Ranger looked at her in frustration, raising a paw like he was gonna say something, but then he sighed and put his paw down and turned toward he bridge. It was at that time he noticed Tally dangling off the bridge. With a bark, he hurriedly made his way onto the bridge. Tucker had Tally's paws in an instant, trying to pull her back up. The small dog however wasn't making that big of a difference in her struggles. As he tried to pull back, his paws just scraped uselessly on the smooth, old wooden planks. Ranger made in to the two dogs and bent off the bridge himself, grabbing Tally's waist with one front leg, and supporting himself with the other. The two dogs managed to get Tally back up on the bridge without too much trouble, and once they were safely back in the center, Ranger let her stand back up, standing next to her for support. "Wow, you okay Tally?" He asked, a concerned look on his face.

Tally's eyes were wide, her vision swimming with the fear of the last few seconds of dangling. She nodded breathlessly. "Y-yeah, I think s-so," she managed to say shakily.
Watching Tally almost fall had made Kali more scared than ever and she froze, standing stock still.

Ranger nodded. "Let's hurry up and get across. I didn't know it was gonna be this bad, today." The three dogs made it the rest of the way across with minimal issue, and once they were safe back on land, Ranger told Tucker and Tally to stay where they were. He then padded up to the cabin and disappeared from view for a few moments. Then he reappeared a moment later and gestured for them to come.
On the front porch of the cabin lay a big St. Bernard, his fur graying from old age. He watched them approach silently, his tired eyes never blinking.

"Hello Ira," Tally greeted formally.
KAli had finally made it across, though her legs were still shaking, and sat down, releived to be on firm land again.

Ranger smiled and nodded quietly at Kali, then turned to Ira and sat silently again. The 4 dogs waited seemingly forever for Ira to begin speaking, and when he did, his raspy voice was barely audible over the gusting wind. "We are all in deep trouble my friends. Have you not noticed the changes that have been happening to our planet?" Ranger took a step closer. "Yes sir, we have. That is why we came to see you." Ira nodded sagely. "There are very few days left, my dear friends. Make the most of it. Whilst you can."

"Few days are left before what?" Tally cut in, curious.

Ira gestured his paw at the surroundings. "All you see before you will be gone soon. Wolf lore has it that the world is going to end before the new season starts. The stories have been passed down over thousands of seasons, and now the days of reckoning are upon us."

"So there's gonna be an apocalypse?" Tally asked, her brown eyes widening.

Ira nodded sagely. "Only a few humans have a chance to be saved, now. The wolf packs I communicate with have told me the humans have been building large things that will help protect them in an ancient red hole in the earth." Ranger shook his head, then spoke. "No one can be sure the world is going to end soon, or ever. Couldn't it just be a story they used to scare young pups or something?" Ira chuckled. "My dear young friend. Are you saying that you are doubting the inevitable? All things must die, and it just so happens to be our earth this time." Ranger stomped his paw angrily. "so you're saying you are okay with everybody dying? I haven't lived a full life like you have, old man. I want to stay alive, and grow old. This isn't fair." Ira smirked. "Of course it's not fair young one. I am not happy with whats going on, but what do you expect me, or any other dog to do? You just have to learn to step back and except defeat, Ranger."
