OOC:Sorry about the double-post but I'm un-pausing the rp now.
Alpine flinched a little when he heard the gun-shot but after a few seconds he was ready to get down to business. Unlike some of the more foolish teams that decided to speed ahead of everyone else; Alpine and his team chose to wisely conserve their energy for this race would take quite some time. For a brief moment Alpine thought of turning to Saba and giving her some encouragement but he knew that he couldn't let her and himself get distracted. Alpine confidently glared forward ready for whatever the race would throw at him.

Samson pulled against his harness with all his might, urging the sled to be lighter. Being a wheel dog, he and Keno had to take care of the wieght of the sled more than the others on the team. Sam easily fell into the pace the rest of the team set, using his strength mostly in his shoulder and back than his legs to help as much as he could with the sled's weight.

OOC: Oh, and I was meaning to mention this. The other dogs on other teams are NPC's (Non-Player Chracters) so anybody can control them, but keep in mind not to make them into your 'second character'.
BiC: Saba had to concentrate on breathing more than anything else right now. She was overwhelmed with excitement and nerves, but she had to concentrate on her job--- running, pulling and as a Swing Dog, turning. But for now they were just going on the flat, and all the teams were in relatively close range with each other, their team in about tenth position at the moment, not that it mattered now. Saba was unsure of the pace in a race such as this one, but Lucifer, as the Lead Dog, was in control of that so Saba knew how to adjust. She wasn't the best at long distance, endurance races because she was quite thin in comparison to other sled dogs. A lot of the others were more muscular, Saba was athletic. It didn't matter now though. She had agreed to this race, she wanted to make the return trip to Nome, she wanted to run as a Swing Dog, so no matter what, she would.
The morning turned into midday, they had been running for at least five hours now, but the pace they were going at was good to keep them going until nightfall. Saba felt her muscles ache slightly and the reality of the race began to sink in. Just the sight of her team kept her motivated though, so she powered ahead around the next bend. As they were running, they saw some boulders which made relatively good shelter, but they weren't stopping yet. But on a closer look, a team had stopped there! The young team, with dogs as young as ten months old, were panting and lying on the ground, lapping up snow for water. Saba couldn't help but pity them, for they reminded her of when she was that age, returning from mail runs and struggling to keep up with the pace of her father and team mates. But it trained her to be like she was today and if those dogs were already up to this league, who knows what challenges they might accomplish and present to future teams?
Saba realised that she was distracted and quickly whipped her head back around to face the front. She couldn't let herself lose focus, that was a recipe for disaster!
OOC: Lol, long post or what?

Ooc: Looks like nobody else is going to post.... So i will! Snowbelle swished her tail, liking the feel of the wind in her fur. They had been running almost the whole day, but she still didn't feel very tired, thanks to the intense training they had undergone before the race. She looked beside her, seeing Pitch, his concentration completely on running. Belle looked ahead again, almost tripping over a stone in her path. She needed to concentrate!Pitch stared ahead determinedly, he wasn't tired at all, but his full concentration was still on the race. At one point he thought he felt Belle's gaze on him, but he brushed the thought aside, thinking that she would be concentrating on the race too. He shot a glance at the sun, which was rapidly descending, and bringing the day to an end. They would stop soon, he thought, thinking that he could run all night if he had needed to.

Keno's muscles whirred endlessly, pumping like the pistons of a train. He strained against the thick straps that bound his shoulders and hips, ploughing through the thick snow powerfully. He was relieved that so far, his team was running extremely well and no-one was messing up. He was delighted at the amount of concerntration that suddenly seemed to take hold of them, all laughing and joking over with, time for business. Keno spared a quick glance at the young team sheltering in the shadows of the rocks, and grunted in a "just as I thought" manner. He had no sympathy for them- they were just a bunch of young amateurs -who didn't really know what they were letting themselves in for. Typical........
He quickly turned his mind back to the race and pulled again with all his might, one with his team and his musher.

Sam spared a moment out of his full concentration to glance at the younger dogs huddled under the rock and against each for warmth. He knew that they were probably to young to be getting themselves in this race that was surely one of the hardest races in all of Alaska. He hoped that they would all make it out of this race in good health. He mantally wished them luck on just surviving the weather before turning back to running in a rythmaical pattern that blended in with the rest of his teams running paws.

OOC: Time to bump this topic with another post...
BiC: As the sun sank ever lower, the musher kept the team moving, but all the while looking for what could be a suitable site for camp. The last rays of sun disappeared, and a chilly breeze rustled through the trees and their fur. But the musher spotted a perfect spot, of flat ground well sheltered by two large, looming pines with a few large boulders acting as walls from the wind. The team sighed with relief and began to slow down, but groaned as they realised that the spot was already taken by the all-female team. The musher began to turn and move away, but Saba refused to move an inch.
"Come on guys, we should at least ask if we can share the spot with them! I mean, we'd let others share our campsite, wouldn't we? This spot is big, and if we can't stay here we'll have to run for miles to find a place that's nearly as good. Please, can we at least ask?"

Keno groaned when he heard Saba's suggestion. He'd really have liked to have found their own little campsite, being rather unsociable. He didn't like the thought of sharing AT ALL. But he sighed with submission as he realised that the site was pretty much perfect, and even if they searched for hours on end, they probably wouldn't find another spot like this. His eyesdrifted over to his concern, the female team, and his eyes narrowed. They'd better stay put...he thought.

Pitch eyed the all-female team curiously, wondering if they would mind sharing. He was fine with it. "As long as they don't sit up talking all night" He thought to himself, although he was really joking. He knew they wouldn't do something like that, they would be tired, most likely. He stretched, his legs aching a little from running all day. He was made for strength and speed, not stamina, although this didn't make him bad for the races - he just tired a little quicker than the other dogs, but he never showed it. "I say we should rest here" He said determinedly "This spot is great".
Belle stopped and looked over at the all female team, shooting a look at Saba when she suggested sharing. Belle had mixed feelings about this, she was against it, yet she wanted to see what an all-female team would be like. With a sigh, Belle reluctantly agreed "I suppose we should rest up here. Better to get a good nights rest and share, then get a bad nights rest and not have to share"

The musher pulled in to their campsite and was thankful when their musher, a girl like the rest of the team, greeted them politely and welcomed them to stay. Some of the dogs weren't so welcoming. The lead dog glared a them through narrowed eyes, whilst some of the females were glad for extra company. Saba cast them a friendly glance with a wagging tail, but decided not to go out of her way to interact with them. They looked serious, so Saba figured that she should as well.
Saba was glad to be unhooked from the sled, and even more so to be fed. ((OOC: Just finished doing some poetry, the rhyming hasn't worn off XD))Even if it was only fish, it was something in her stomach. After digging herself a den and feeling the warmth inside it, Saba realised how tired she was and wondered how she would ever wake up in the morning.
