Whoa - look at all those potential threats. I'm surprised we haven't all just died already. Just kidding there, but I honestly don't think that the world will end in 2012. The Mayan calendar ends in 2012, but it had to end somewhere, right?

I guess we have to see for our selves. Just to be sure, neutrally. :?

So annoying(your post that is).

I see no good reason for the world to end then; I mean, why should it?

We're more advanced then the Mayans or everyone else that's predicted the world would end and if they could do it and know for sure then so would we.

Alright, I'm going to state my oppion. Everytime, an I'll state this, something bad happens, people jump to the 'doomsday' senero. WWI, people though it would end, WWII, same thing, only people thought Hitler was the Anti-christ, Great Depression, same thing. And the actual reason the Mayan Calender ended on 2012 is because our solar system finishes its cycle around the Milky Way, the Mayans had an advanced knowladge of space and calculated space related events. This is why their Calender ends here, they based it around this cycle so they completed their calender. They have a legend, which is commonly misinturptated as a doomsday prophey, where their creator god was killed by demons from the void, the core of the Milky Way which they believed was the underworld, and a pair of great heroes went into the rift and defeated the lords in a game and decapatated them, resurected the creator god as well, they play a game based on this myth, a ball, the sun, going threw a hole high up in a wall, the rift, with the winner being decapatated as a sacrifice to their gods, which to them was a great honor. As for the Armagaddon thing, yes, I'm a Christian, a devote one, but the Bible says 'it will come like a theif in the night', thus, without warning or subtle warning. So the way I see it, televangalists screaming its near on TV, doesn't count as 'coming like a thief in the night'.

Hey I just predicted that a bologna sandwich will fall from the sky, nope it didn't happen, oh well. Shows how real predictions are. Even if 2012 was the end of the world, it really would not matter, its not like anything could be done to stop it. Now if I remember right, didn't people run around saying the same thing when Y2K rolled around? If so, here we all are nine years later. As for me I'm going to worry about real things like going to college. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah, people did get all wiled up about Y2K and then their was the radio broadcast of H.G. Well's War of the Worlds where anyone that didn't tune it at the right time thought the world was being invaded by aliens and went crazy. Humans, by nature, are vunerable to mass hysteria, its happened a lot of times throughout history, heck maybe that's what happened to the Mayans. That said, I do believe in prophecy, just not ALL prophecy, mostly the biblical ones, which I don't want anyone to start a fight over and don't think that they'll happen in my lifetime. I don't think Nostrodomius predicted a lot of the stuff they say he did, heck I saw a show on the History Channel that proved half the stuff they say he predicted were just because of how vague he was. I think the Mayans were right in predicting the motions of space objects but not fortelling the future. And if a comet or something is on its way to collide with us, well then we'll finally have a good use for our nukes and destroy it before it gets close enough.

Nukes? Man, I have a bad feeling about those. It might take a hit between U.S. and Russia. :?
But nothing is going to happen with them for now.

Sorry if this is reviving an dead topic, don't think it is dead yet. I just found out that we're four years ahead of the Mayan Calender, meaning the world should've ended in 2008 by ours...we're still here, unless Heaven is a lot wierder than I thought.

Oh and Nostrodomius NEVER predicted the end of the world, he said so himself, its just his predictions were never properly translated, thus, that 'end of the world' theory is shot down.

My opinion, in 2012, the world could come to an end. It's the future, how do we know something like that's not gonna happen. It would be extremely unlikely, though. Now, I'm not saying that I agree with the theory, I'm neutral.

Well of course, the world could come to an end any time, its just 2012 is no diffrent that any other year in this matter. Its just the Maya calender ended and ONE inturpration of one of Nostrodomius' predications was on that year but the same thing was supposed to have happened in 1999 in one persons oppinion and another, far more acurate tranlation by someone that actually studied deeply into the things it was written in, says 2087, and still, even then, it wasn't a doomsday theory, the prophet himself said it wasn't.

BTW, can someone find out how we even know anything about the Mayan Calaender? Weren't they exstinct by the time we got here? Or am I thinking of the Incas?
