I heard the movie guide came out already, but at the end of breaking dawn it says 'Twilight Guide coming December 30, 2008.'

How come it came out early?

I simply can't STAND the Twilight series, nor anyone who just goes "ZOMGSQUEEIWANNABELIKEBELLAANDEDWARD" over it. The book series is overhyped, the main characters are the ultimate Mary-Sues of literature history, and the plot is just basically worthless. It's just a huge fanfiction featuring the author as the main character with her dream lover, a 108-year old vampire who just so happens to have never hit on a single girl until he meets Bella. It's all just a huge horribly written series doing nothing but having Stephanie trying to use huge words to try to sum up Edward's beauty 99% of the frickin' time. Seriously, a vampire that sparkles? A whole family of vampires that are vegetarians? Ugh, NO.

And the movie was God-awful as well. There was one of the many scenes that made me facepalm where Edward stopped a car with his bare hands, and smashed it, and no one took notice to it...wtf.

Indeed. Me and my friends were forced to see it as it was the least terrible movie on when we went to see them (I was NOT going to watch HSM3 and neither were they.

Nice cinematography, but terrible plot. Characters do things for no logical reason. "Oh, I act like I hate you. But I act like I hate you because I actually totally love you." NO. Just no.

Also vegetarian vampires = crap concept

Actually if you read the book, this makes perfect sense. I can't remember if it was in the movie (probably not though. I think it was something they cut), but they go into an explination in the book of why he had to do that. So it infact WAS for a logical reason.

I'm not specifically talking about that Tibby. I read 72 pages of the book and was told "it only gets you going up to page 120" or something. Books SHOULDN'T BE LIKE THAT. That's called bad writing. Interest needs to be gotten at the start.

That was just something I noted in the movie, but come on, what explanation did he have, he didn't want Bella close to him? In case he was tempted? Am I right?

Okay. Let me explain a little something about the "logic." You may find it stupid, but hey guess what? Steph was just trying to be original. Seriously. The whole stakes and coffins thing can get kinda boring. And she probably changed it to sparkling, becuase she wanted things to be different. And the "vegetarian vampire" thing makes sense too if you pay attention. If they would be normal vampires, Bella would probably die by the last part of the first book. And also, the whole thing abbout James woulldn't fit into it. The story would be completly different without these little parts. Although you may find it bad, she just did those things to make it unlike other stories.

And I didn't really understand the meaning of "I hated you, because I was trying to stay away from you" thing either, but I understand why she put it there.

The whole thing with vampires is that they are portrayed by traditional myth as being scary and vicious. They are not meant to "sparkle" fairytale-like in the sun, vampire legends does not show this - they burn to their deaths due to their pale skin. Now if Twilight vampires have the same complexion - why do they not burn? IMO vampires are NOT a magical-type species. They do NOT have super-fast speed and super-strong strength so they can be completely invincible and thus "cool" (which is totally NOT cool). In legends, vampires could only survive on human blood. Not animal, human, thus destroying the whole concept of a vegetarian vampire. In my books if you're going to make a book about a mythical species like a vampire or a chimera or a werewolf too (since the concept of werewolf is also flawed in the movie and book compared to myths) you should keep SOME aspects of the traditional mythical specie and then make your own changes that aren't the most unrealistic things in the world, like vampires that sparkle in the sunlight.

Oh, and one more thing: if Stephanie Meyer wanted to be original, she wouldn't have written a book on a human/vampire or human/werewolf romance. Why? Look. These are some that have simply done it before:

The Southern Vampire Series by Charlaine Harris
The House of Night Series by P.C. and Kristen Cast
The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice
The Morganville Vampire Series by Rachel Cain
Blood And Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause
The Silver Kiss by Annette Curtis Klause
The Saint German Series by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro
The Sonya Blue Series by Nancy Collins

I understand she wanted to bring her own little touch to the concept of a vampire but to me it's too much like a fairytale.

hmm. I guess you might be right. Regardless, I like the story. At first I was completly obsessed with Twilight, but it kinda got old now so...

But yeah, you're right. I don't really know that for sure. That was just what I thought. ;)

I've now read Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse AND Breaking Dawn.

I love them all. <33 so much. i'm not usually one to read, but I am madly inlove with the series.

plus I saw the film last week in the cinema - twice. :] Most amazing film I've ever seen, without a doubt. as someone who's a huge fan of the books, I have to say, the film was just as good, If not, better!

I find it all so captivating in the strangest way. It's just so amazing to me. <33

Can't wait for Midnight Sun. ?

No offense to you Twilight fans, but I don't like the idea behind these books, and never saw the movie.

Going to have to agree with both of you there... I've tried reading Twilight. Rarely do I stop reading a book before I finish it, but really? Like Stephen said, I'm not exactly her target market either, so bleh. And now, our school book club is making me read The Host against my will, and I'm already getting castigated enough for that as it is...

Personally I don't think Stephen King can write worth a darned and I think Stephenie is a fine writer. It's all a matter of opinion. I would kind of HOPE that Stephen King wouldn't like the kind of stuff Stephenie wrote because that would be just flat out creepy. =\ Though for him to say she can't write worth a darn is stupid because if she couldn't write that good, she wouldn't have sold so many books, sooo...
