I use Handbrake for all my movie ripping. This should be able to compile the VIDEO_TS folder you see on the DVD. I dunno, but this works with my mac. I convert it with .mp4 format with .mp3 sound. (Astonishing that goes with a PSP, I might add)

Does anyone use iMovie? I have the Balto movie ripped, but it says the file is too big. What can I use to compress it?

I used iMovie all the time and never had to compress my Balto movie :?: ... perhaps your drive is different from NTFS? (or are you saving it to an external hard disk?). If that is not the problem, try downloading some codecs off of Apple's website (if they still have them up for download) or purchase them for QuickTime Pro and work from there.

Still...too big? Never had that be an issue (but I always used my Powerbook when working with iMovie). I have never had iMovie say that my file was too big (usually the files were corrupt :) )

Try using a different audio format for the movie. I have heard that converting files to mp4 or m4v with mp3 audio layers leads to system instabiliity during conversion- a.k.a. File size becoming too large for a harddisk's directives to hold (meaning the disk is randomly reading 'zero' files as its primary directive roots used to read the file *movie* - still with me???). (or was that m4v and mp4 to avi with mp3 audio layers?) I don't really remember...

As for codecs...I 'could' send some to you, but I 'cannot' because that would be kind of like warez... and everyone knows; piracy/warez = bad.

Oh yeah... and is the file larger than 4.19GB? If so, then no FAT32 partitioned system for you. (same goes for anything larger than 19.49GB on a standard NTFS partitioned system)

Thanks, AK!! Yeah, I dunno what's up with this. I don't save to an external hard drive, so...But the file is 655 MB, so I'm well below the file size limit.

No you do not need a special video camera... *sigh*. I don't see why people don't 'read' other posts about how you only need the DVD and a ripping software to extract the movie to your computer. Then after that, all you need is a program that converts the movie on your computer to something a little more useful (.avi, .mpeg, etc.).

Gotta thank BG for such a 'wonderful' drawing there...

Sorry to double post, but it still isn't working for me. It won't let me put the file into Windows Movie Maker from an iTunes file. How do I convert the file, or am I doing it wrong?

iTunes = Apple
Windows Media Player = PC
Windows Movie Maker = also PC

Normally iTunes files will not work with Windows Media systems as they are usually encrypted with either Fish or Fox securites (quite commonly used codecs for some .bmps or .jpegs). If you bought it off iTunes; tough...its stuck MPEG-4 or AAC.

Unless you purchase some audio/video converters like Total Video Converter (no brainer, eh?) then you could 'possibly' convert them to AVI or another MPEG format- or even the garbage nick-named WMV. Same goes for audio files from iTunes: buy a conversion program (me no need one- I keep everything AAC, AAC-AKJ, or AAC-RAW Mainstream- and even iTunes works as a free audio converter)...

No, you have to use clips from other sites. To remove a clip from something like Putfile or Youtube, go here. Then, right click the link and save it to your computer. From there, you can put it in your movie if you open it.

Also, you'll need a totally different program besides Windows Movie Maker to make an animated music video. Unfortunately, all of the good ones are really expensive.

Unfortunally..not only music video you can make..you can make animation sbut it saves into a movie format WMV which annoys me a lot...the sound is annoyign and the screen, but you can make normal clips too.
Only WMV's are from Movie maker..you'll need a converter for another format like AVI,MPEG,VOB.
For animations like GIF ,ANI(for cursors) You need Jasc Animation SHop3..a very good program.

Thanks for the tips! I love to make fan videos and i have made Balto ones before, but i wasn't sure how to send them. So, this means you can make videos on Windows Movie Maker? I hope so becuase it has some good effects and stuff on it! I will try in future to send some Fan Videos!
