I think this movie was mainly targeted towards families at the time and caught the attention of children the most.

In 1995, I was seven years old, and I loved it. It's not until after the film became a cult icon that it was recognized and appreciated to the fullest. Now that our generation is growing up, more and more Balto fans are becoming adults.

With the release of Balto II & III, Universal inadvertently made Balto I appear to be just a kid's movie.

Yet, I think Balto is for everyone, and there are still people out there who love the movie and have no idea of the community behind it. I didn't until recently.

I think I'm the only one in my school who doesn't think it's just for kids :( I'm a junior in high school and I still love Balto! I will for a long long time.

2. Bad language: Huh? Where? Give me line from the movie that supports this.

In the first part of the movie, after Steele hits Balto throwing a rock, Kaltag says "That son of a...", and it's easy to guess the word that should have been put after (at least in Italian, I believe that the English version uses the same words).

Wow you're right. I didn't catch that before. I wouldn't say it's bad language, but it's in the "gray area".

Some sites have said it's just for kids, but I say different.

Some IMDB reviews actually say that it's a bit dark for kids. The whole diptheria outbreak and the scene with the man building coffins is kind of gruesome for a 5 year old.

The plot's kind of deep for a kid's movie too. I doubt that children were the only intended audience for the movie.
