"I was afraid of what it would do to us." he admitted, smiling sheepishly.

Russet smiled tenderly and nuzzled Delilah. His smile faded and he grimaced. "I have to go." he whispered.

Russet sighed, but gave a wry smile. "Until I figure out what's causing my changes, be very careful with what you say. If you do trigger my inner.... demon, yell for Julius and explain to him what happened as fast as you can." His eyes were serious, hard, but in a loving way. "Promise me that.... and I'll stay."

"I'll be right back. I just need to find somewhere to stay when I do leave for a bit." He licked her nose and headed towards the door.

Russet found an old wolf's den nearby that fit him perfectly. He left his scent and headed back.

"I'm back. See? I didn't leave for very long, did I?"

Russet sat next to Delilah when an interesting thought came to mind.

"Delilah..... just out of curiousity, what was your life like? I told you what mine was like before I met you. What was yours like?" he asked.

Russet rolled his eyes. "Seriously, Delilah. What was it like?"

Russet's eyes widened. "That wasn't what I was talking about." he said hoarsely. "I meant what your life was like before you even knew I existed."
