Russet chuckled darkly. "You honestly think that would be a lot of time? Sorry to burst your fantasy, sweetheart, but I killed quickly."

Delilah's gaze was just enough to break through and Russet felt a shiver run down his spine before changing. "This is why I leave," he whispered, his head hung low, his eyes filled with guilt.

"Well then what do you suggest? I hurt you physically if I stay, I hurt you emotionally if I leave."

"Yes, but leaving might take away what's causing me to change. It'll help me."

Russet growled. "That's because of Harmony!" he blurted. He regretted it as soon as it came out.

Russet sighed. "Remember when I told you that you wouldn't want to know where I was going? Well, I'm not going to beat around the bush anymore, Delilah." Russet took a deep breath and began a very short sentence.

"I went to go see the pack." It seemed like it took forever to say those few words.

"I felt..... trapped. In a good way, I was with you. In a bad way, I was losing the wolf part of me. I wanted to be with you, while still connecting to wolf part of me that still longed for freedom. So I considered joining the pack, but coming back to you of course. Harmony, the female that was staring at me that day in the clearing, started trying to win me over, but I never liked her like that. I never even liked her. The other day, Mareem caught up with us and killed the Alpha. I decided then to leave and come back. It was killing me to be away from you, and I had to come back. Do you understand?" he asked when he was finished.
