Sympathy sparked in Shay's blue eyes, but she didn't want to stop and help yet. On their way back, if they weren't being chased by too many people, she would free these people. But she had to get to Viktor first. "Where do you think they're keeping him?" she murmured.

Shay couldn't help herself from peering through another set of barred doors. It was a girl, probably only thirteen by the looks of her. Sadness laced her clear blue eyes, and Shay felt of a spark of sympathy. "We have to let her out," she murmured. Something about the girl reminded her of the sister she used to have, who had died when Shay was only four.

The girl's attention was caught by the soft comment, and she looked up. Seeing someone who looked different from the captors she was used to, she allowed a small spark of hope to enter her eyes.

Shay began picking the lock, using a bobby pin that had somehow stayed in her pocket all this time. The door swung open, and she walked inside, kneeling in front of the girl. "I'm Shay," she greeted softly.

"I-I'm Maddie," the girl replied softly, eyes wide and curious. "Are you...one of them?"

"No," Shay replied softly. "We're fighting against them." She offered her hand, and Maddie accepted it slowly, her muscles aching from a lack of use. Maddie's hands were still cuffed, but they would find a way to break them later. Right now they had to find Viktor. "We still have to rescue our friend. He should be down here," Shay murmured, concern lacing her words.

Maddie's eyes widened. "He would be the one they brought in recently. He's two doors down, on the left, I think."

Shay nodded, passing it over quickly. A quick peek in the cell revealed that it was indeed Viktor inside. He was bloodied and bruised, but it was Viktor nonetheless.

Shay grabbed Maddie's hand and raced along behind Zane.

They ran up a flight of staris and down multiple hallways. "Window on the left!" Shay said urgently. The window beckoned to her, an easy escape route.

"You're too heavy!" Shay argued. She let go of Maddy's hand, then used Zane to boost herself. She punched through the glass easily, balancing on his shoulders. She held out her hand for Maddie to grab.

After a moment's hesitation, Maddie grasped it, and was pulled up to the window sill. She slid out through the hole.

Shay passed him to Maddie, then reached out her hand for Zane. "You'll have to help me and climb a bit," she said. A glance behind him revealed a bunch of armed men in pursuit, barking orders at one another. "Hurry!"

Shay ran after Zane, with Maddie close behind her.
