Kisasi struggled to his feet. He was numb from the tip of his nose to his tail tip. His eyes were still glazed over and he couldn't think straight.

Kisasi turned to face Hatima. "No. I don't think i'll ever be able to live with myself again." He padded off in the direction of the cave. His head was down and his tail dragged through the mud behind him.

Kisasi kept stumbling over his own paws as he walked back to the cave. He finally made it back with mud covering half his body from falling so much. He flopped down in the middle of the cave and fell into a deep fitful sleep, full of nightmares.

Kisasi dreamed that Hatima had given birth to five cubs instead of the original four they had thought. He was playing with them when suddenly he hit one of them in the head with his paw. The cub crumpled underneath his paw and lay still. He yelled in shock and scooted backwards. In doing so, he hit two more cubs. He spun around and accidently hit two with his tail. He spun around again to see all of his cubs laying on the ground, not moving. Kisasi woke with a scream, shivering in spite of himself.

"Just a bad dream." Kisasi gasped as his flanks heaved, fighting for breath. He lay back down on the cold stone floor and stared at the wall in front of him. What's happening to me?

Kisasi sighed. He didn't want to talk about it, but he knew he had to. "You had given birth to five cubs Hatima. They were all beautiful and healthy. I was playing will them when I accidently hit one too hard." Kisasi voice caught in his throat and he made a strange gurgling sound, but he forced himself to continue talking. "Then one after the other, I killed each cub. It was all by accident. I either stepped on them or whipped them with my tail when I turned around." Kisasi fell silent, staring at the ground for fear of what Hatima would say about his dream.
