"Why wouldn't we be able to fly? If we have wings, it's only natural we could use them," Gale replied. "I wasn't sure if you could fly without wings."

Sumi shrugged (the best he could while holding to his glider). "Well, yeah, but it still seemed so weird to think that a human could fly with real, actual wings," he reasoned. "Any flying without them isn't so hard, if you're an Airbender. Like me."

"Humans with wings aren't that strange," Gale argued. "Not as strange as Airbenders, anyways. Ya' see, I actually have a logical explanation why we have wings."

"And, I have a logical explanation for being able to bend air," Sumi countered.

"And what is that? What posisble, scientific explanation could you have for being able to move air to your will?" Gale asked.

"It's more spiritual than scientifically, actually," Sumi explained. "The ability to bend an element is something that you're either born with or you're not. The spirits more or less decide if you're born with the gift or not. I was. I'm part Air Nomad, and that was the dominate bloodline for my bending...not quite sure how that works, but whatever. Therefore, I can bend air."

Gale looked at Sumi with an odd expression. "How do spirits decide that?" he asked finally.

Sumi flew in silence for a while before answering. "I don't know," he said at last. "I don't think anybody dose, except the Spirits themselves. So...I'd suppose you'd have to ask one of them? Though I'm not sure how."

"I don't think that spirit mom was talking about would have the answer," Gale said. "And I'm not exactly sure how to talk to one. It's not like I can call them on their cell phone or anything."

Sumi shot a confused expression in Gale's direction. "Cell phone? What the heck is that?"

"You really are from a different world," Gale decided. After a moment of silence, he explained. "A cell phone is a way of communicating. It's simple to use. YOu dial their number using the buttons, talk through one end, and listen through the other."

"I wish Mom would let us get cell phones," Maddy sulked.

"You know what Mom says about phones," Gale said.

Maddy huffed. "I know, I know. But it would still be fun."

"You know Mom is still sort of paranoid. She says we could be tracked or something," Gale countered.

"Oooh....kaaaayyy..." Said Sumi, turning his eyes back to the path. "Look! A cave!" He excalimed suddenly. "Maybe it'll be the shelter we're looking for."

"Let's go look then!" Maddy said, already beginning to tilt her body forwards, angling for a smooth landing.

Sumi followed, wind blowing faster through his hair than it had preciously been and he soared towards the cave.

Misaki pulled out some scraps of fabric. It was the blankets, she figured. They were damp and torn, but probably still usable. "Daddy, I found some blankets!" She called to Kuilak. Kuilak came over to investigate. Taking the fabric from his daughter, he nodded. "Good job, Misaki. Glad some are still ok." Misaki grinned and went back to searching.

Tess walked over to were Misaki was, helping her search that particular area. "I think I found something," she said, moving aside a damp piece of wood. It was the blade of a knife. Gasping it carefully, she held it aloft. "Is this something we can use?" she asked. Tariq squinted as he peered at it from a distance.

"Yeah. Good job, sweetheart. Put that next to the other things," he said, gesturing to the small pile that mainly consisted of scraps of fabric and a few other items.


Maddy landed first, Gale close behind her. "Nyah, nyah!" she teased. "I got here first!" Normally, Gale would've responded with an equally irritating response, but the events he had been put through lately, such as having his world collide with someone else's, had given him some amount of maturity. So instead he rolled is eyes, folding in his wings.
