"That was before." Shani explained. "You see, your Dad was never born in the Pridelands. He came from a pride on the outskirts of our borders. Your parents ran into each other quite by accident. When they were adults, your father came back, but he told me that his real reason was to kill the Royal family. And it was all because of his adopted father, Jeraha."

Shani looked away. "I think I've said enough already." she said. "But you'll understand when you're older."

"You won't." Shani said. But then she sighed. "I guess there's no hiding it anymore from you." she said. "The story is actually more than it seems. Jeraha actually killed your father's parents and filled his head with all sorts of wrong things. Your father actually turned into a fully raging killing machine when we saw him again as adults."

"Because of your mother." Shani explained. "She showed your father the truth and made him the wonderful father he is now. But, I still think that monster is inside him somewhere. He became that ruthless killing machine when you were taken by those hyenas."

"Carissa! Come Back!" Shani yelled out. Lucky for her, she caught up with the younger lion and turned her towards her. "I know." she said. "His love for you was incredible. He protected you like I never could have. The training Jeraha gave him still was in him. He used that to make sure you were safe."

"Carissa, there are two types of monsters." Shani explained. "One that is good, and one that is bad. Your father was first the bad monster, but thanks to your mom, he's now the good monster."

"No, that's where you're wrong." Shani explained quietly. "Not all monsters are bad. You see, I used to know about this monster who was good and only cared about his son. He even died to save him. That monster was none other than Mufasa, your own great-great-grandfather. I met him via dreams, and he used those very same words to describe himself. That's when I learnt that not all monsters are bad."

"Sayari?" Shani asked. She immediately picked Carissa up and took her to the cave in the back. "Stay here and don't move a muscle." she told the cub before pelting off. Inside, she could feel something big roaring. Whatever, whoever it was, was doing to her nephew, she was going to teach them a lesson.
