I mean, police training is meant to bring out the agressive side of a dog, and in doing that, (I believe) it lets out the agressiveness when it's needed, and not when it's not needed... I think...(I don't want to be someone who thinks they know something when they really don't.) Either way, dogs of any breed might go ballistic at some point (notice the word MIGHT, in that sentence.) Besides, if it wouldn't be a problem to train a german shepherd to kill, then they might... but then again, that's what cops have guns for... Oh well. Besides, German shepherds are also intimidating to a lot of people anyway, even if just by their appearance. "no duh"?  You're a trip, Swords. Heh heh.
German Shepherds themselves aren't intimidating to me. I can see the friendly demeanor in the face of a dog when looking for it. As everyone likes to say, every dog is different. People set themselves up for a bad encounter when they assume a dog is bad just because of its appearance (though, and I KNOW I'm going to get slammed for this, SOME breeds are more likely than others to be a problem, like it or not... because of what they were bred to do).
Of course cops have guns. And they're only supposed to use them in the most extreme cases (and have made mistakes there too).

yeah, so have I. We have 2 right now. One's name is Talon, the other is named Toby. Toby's dad and grandfather were both 5 star police dogs. All he does though, is bark at my horses.  Talon is VERY protective. I love this breed, they are super smart!

Someone I know used to breed german shepherds. I know a lot about them as well, they're very smart. They're almost as closely related to wolves as huskys/malamutes.

My aunt has one. It's got a full black pelt though. It's rare to find a German Shepherd with black fur. At least, entirley black fur rather than just a second layer of black fur over their tannish color.

Even harder is the all white ones. The AKC doesnt like them so the market as I think would not be all too big. My friend has one.

And their not THAT rare, at all.
White is a fault, anyways.
