As long as it's not XXX explicit (meaning sexually) or describing organs or something I believe they should stay.
As for the gay fics?
Well, I'm a guy, and I think that idea is detestable and degradation of Balto in general, but... if I have mine I think they should have theirs.
I mean, just because it's here doesn't mean you have to read it.
This whole debate could be solved with this simple statement.
If you don't agree with the subject matter (and we've been really good about warnings and such, especially with the java thing now) then don't read it, simple as that.
Now, I'm not saying that Baltosource should turn into some kind of "Balto Sex-site" or anything, that kind of stuff should NOT be allowed, but I see nothing wrong with the things I have written and I've written some pretty gory ones (I.E. Darkness, and Nightmare in Nome) as well as some more... intimate love sequences (I.E. A Forbidden Love) but I don't think I've crossed that line.
In short, I have mixed feelings on this subject.
(By the way for those of you that want to write "Sexually Explicit" Balto stories there is a site on the web called yiffstar.com that speciallizes in such.)
I found it by accident searching for Balto stuff, honest.
(The very idea of such filth detests me, but to each his own.)

*A WORD OF CAUTION*
Yiffstar.com has pornographic material on it. (In fact, that seems to be the ONLY thing on it)

To me if we're going to have straght stories then gay one's are ok too. but yes we dont need a description of what they do, for any story Goy or not. All you have to say is they mated and that gets the point across, no details are needed.
We like has been said I dont want to watch this site turn into something like Yiffstar.com. If you want to write stories like that send them there but we do not need them too.
(FYI if you want to find out what Yiff is dont try googleing it, it'll just cause a big hassle and thing you never would have wanted to see)

My fanfics have a little of that stuff in them, but I don't make the gore as excessive as Maya's example. At all. But I think that sexual scenes, as long as they're not TOTALLY detailed, like, .. . . .never mind. But I think that if the relationship is consentual, that is, there are willing parties on both sides, than it's okay. I DO think that some of the younger people shouldn't be exposed to extreme sex scenes, but warnings made very clear on the tops of the fics should be sufficient to take care of that problem. Summing up what I wanted to say, I think that as long as warnings are plentiful, that makes the choice to read the stories the reader's.

Well, since we all have the right to speak our own opinons on the subject (and since I am an avid fanfic writer myself here on the site), I will speak my opinons . . . . now.
Well, I see nothing wrong with violent or sexual fics (since I will admit it, I have read and written a couple of them - not violent ones, mind you - but I only see nothing wrong with them because, unlike many of you here, I am of mature age (Psst! I'm 20 . . . 21 in three months.), so please take that into account.), but when we're talking about a site that's supposed to be for all fans of Balto, I believe that a line must be drawn.
Maybe a little one . . . .
Too violent - as in extreme "Texas-Chainsaw-Massacre-style" gore and all - has got to go (or at least be linked offsite with an extreme warning, so that readers understand what they are about to read . . . but then again, why not mention that in the summary? Isn't that what it's there for?).
As for the sex and all, I believe that really graphic stuff (as in very, very explicit descriptions) should be posted elsewhere and not here. In my fics, if I have a feeling that something may not be appropriate for younger readers/fans, I make sure to warn the reader in the summary. If I do have to edit the story in order to post it on the site, I would gladly do so (and post the "unedited" version on another site, with a link to it somewhere . . . maybe on my thread in the fanfiction section).
And BTW, I see nothing wrong with different pairings (whether crossbreeding, incestual, or homosexual). I believe that it makes a story different, new and exciting, so I have nothing against it. (I do have something against people that shove support for "certain homosexual" pairings down their throats though . . . and I'll stop there. I don't want to get into a fight about this, please. Save it for my PM inbox. ^__^)
Even though I think the Javascript pop-ups are a good idea for higher rated fics, I do not believe they will work as well as we all hope they will. Younger people will still be able to read higher rated fics by overpassing the pop-up warnings (oh well, it's their own fault if they're disturbed by something in a story that they were warned about numerous times . . . so meh.), but it's a good way to remind them of their mistake (I suppose that's a good way to say that . . .).
So, my vote goes to "Very violent/very sexual fics must go", although I personally feel that all the fics should stay, violent/sexual or not, and the reader will be at fault if they read something they don't want to read, not Steet (or the Fic Mod(s), whomever they are).

Same for Klaus's art, you can skip it if you don't like it. And it's legal if you put a pop-up before... It's the same thing. As far as I can see, if Steet does what the members want, we will see more Klaus here. Rotramel the Writer wrote: Now, I'm not saying that Baltosource should turn into some kind of "Balto Sex-site" But if we allow those fiction, then people will put their XXX works here ("why put it in a small yahoo group when I can put it in the biggest Balto fan site?") and soon people who want too see 18+ fictions or drawings will come on Balto Source.
Well, first of all, it's up to the authors themselves to post fics here anyway. Second, the mods have final judgment on whether it will be posted or not (plus, they have to PM the author if they feel that their fic breaks rules/is not appropriate for the site). So, train the fic mods that check the fics so that if they feel something should not be on the site, they should do something about it.
And I hope we don't have XXX Balto fics on here. I don't write very graphic stuff like that (and I've read some XXX Balto fics myself . . . and to tell you the truth, most of the stuff I read on here is soooo much better! That's a compliment, Steet!). Gah.
Now about explicit drawings, that discussion belongs in the Fanart section (but since it does have a bit to do with censorship and all), but that sort of thing is unnecessary for this site. Save it for DeviantArt or your own personal sites, but please . . . think about the children. ^__^

With violence I think gorey stuff should not be mentioned much. With sexual content I think too much detail isn't right. If they put less detail in then it should be okay. Writers should just put warnings up every single time they put these things in fanfics.

Well I think Violance should be allowd, but not to over do it, violance for some reasion always gives a story more edge and more virint, as to sexuality, well I think that should be allowd, but not to graphical, because a story needs thouse things most of the time, and if you take them away then there goes many story ideas right out the window.
Same with some bad words, if a character is extreamly pissed you can't just say "get away you stupid head" especialy if the character is in raged at another character, it would sound better if it was "get the hell away from me Bitch!" yeah it may be a bad word, but it also makes a clearer image and sound to how inraged a character is, or you could say it a bit nicer but make the emotion more agresseve.
So personaly, I say keep that stuff in, just don't over do it on the detail.

Huh? Why do we have to have gay ones just because there are stories with straight romance??
In truth, there should be NO stories with anything more than the slightest, most innocent innuendo. And it should not be homosexual or bisexual.

Im so loving this debate so far^^ so many opinions, facts, story rights and much more thrown all over the place^^ it's actully very cute and amusing^^
But for the Homosexual and Bosexual, I think those should be allowd, because well it's diffrent and it's always good to read storys that are difrent from the others and to see what the writer can do with that kind of meteral, it's very fun to read those, because there are sertin boundarys to those especialy and it's awesome to see if the writers can keep within those boundrys and still make the story exiting and very colorfull without over doing it, if it's a love bi or gay story, then it's always nice too read something like that, especialy about love^^ just as long as it stays not to graphical, hehehehehe^^

- Juuchan17 Juuchan...you KNOW I have a great deal of respect for you, and consider you a friend here on Balto Source. You're a good writer (though I have stayed away from the fan fics of yours that have content I'm turned off by). But I have to ask this. How are explicit drawings any different from explicit fiction? One simply relies more upon words than upon images. They both can conjure things up in the mind of the observer, for good OR ill (more likely ILL in this case). It can't be one or the other...it must be all or none. I see it the way Togo does, when he says: Togo wrote: Of course fics and drawings are different things, but I think a comparison can be done between them. If Steet allows fictions, then he should allow drawings as well because sex is sex, no matter if it's with words or images. Actually there are differences, but not in this topic. Agreed, Togo. Inasmuch as your statement about there being a reason to compare them as to their effect on the observer. And whether or not it is right to post one, but not the other. Tibb_wolf wrote: I totaly agree totaly. It would get very boring if everyone did fanfics that had 'normal' pairings. And it's FANfiction. If it would offend someone, they don't HAVE to read it. Tibby, I respect you too...and consider you a friend. But I am perplexed by how you could what you call "normal pairings" a boring thing. I find "abnormal pairings" (which is what I personally consider the homosexual and bisexual stuff to be) to be in bad taste, as well as ethically and scientifically (biologically) unsound. Now, before anyone goes off accusing me of biggotry, my personal beliefs having nothing whatsoever to do with my views on how good and decent a gay or bi person can be. I judge people on WHO they are as a complete person...not on their sexual preference. But that doesn't change the fact that I find homosexuality and bisexuality abnormal, and an inappropriate subject for children to have access to. Of course, you are an ardent defender of this "Kodi/Kirby" thing, which has gotten WAY out of hand. That whole thing REALLY bothers me. But it still doesn't affect how I see you as a person overall. I can only hope you're not going to treat me differently just because of my beliefs. But I won't apologize for them, either. And, like Togo again said: Togo wrote: If law doesn't allow something (like sexual contents for kids), maybe there's a reason.... It isn't a matter of tastes.
And once again, I agree.

Ok, so let's summarize.
If I check the poll results, I see that...it's 50/50 (argh, I would have expected something else...) Difficult to take any decision in a situation like this.
So, I suppose the fairest thing to do, would be to still allow violent fanfics BUT put a limit on how much violence is allowed. Same for sex.
The biggest problem here, is to get a definition of what is acceptable and what is not.
I will try and propose this : The fanfics which rely only on violence, contain gore parts or descriptive sexual parts are not allowed on the site.
Or, a more restrictive one : Any story that would not be acceptable for an official Balto film, are not allowed on the site.
I like the first one better, because, well, the goal of a fanfic is also to do things that would be not be possible for an official story.
