I shall name one book, and one book only.

The Scarlet Letter

That book shoved symbolism so far down your throat that you couldn't breath while you had that book in your hands. It was unbearable!

Blue Bloods by Melissa de la Cruz.

Uhg, I picked this book up at Walmart for $7, and I wish I could get my money back, even if it was off of a giftcard. I bought it because I was wanting to find another vampire series like Twilight, and there was already three books in the Blue Bloods series. And of course, I picked this one up because it had a pretty cover. :?

The plot was original, there is no denying that. It had potential. But I felt no connection to the characters, and I felt like it was poorly written. It dealt too much with fashion and not enough about the vampires. Honestly, I thought I'd never get through with it and back on to reading my Maximum Ride books.

Maybe I'll pick it up again sometime and try it again. Maybe the series gets better. I dunno, but I'm staying away from this series for quite a while.

Follow the River

Advice for anyone who ever wants to write anything (no matter what it is): Too much needless description coupled with a bland, uninteresting plot makes for a book that will cause readers to want to pluck their eyeballs out of their sockets. Or at least that's how I felt when I read the thing. If you ever come across this book (or if you're assigned it for a class reading project, like I was a few years back) just say NO! It's been over 5 years, and just thinking about the wretched thing still sends chills down my spine. It's a disgrace to all good books everywhere.

Holy fewmets, did I loathe this book!! :x

i actually kinda enjoyed this book, but that's probably cuz my english teacher explained it so well. and sorry, i am a harry potter fan... but as for a book i hate, that would have to be "the pigman". talk about a stupid book! there's probably other books i hate too, but none of 'em are coming to mind right now.

Call me a dork but I enjoyed Great Expectations as well

Come on people, Harry Potter isn't all that bad!

But the worst book I ever read would be the Great Gatsby.
It was so boring and confusing, it didn't even make any sense until after the last chapter!
Long after I would've normaly put down a book if I wasn't forced to read it for school.

wow. a LOT of people here hate Harry Potter. myself and one of my friends were the biggest HP fans in school. terrible years around that time, people made fun of us enough with out loving the series. i still do, but mostly up to the 3rd book. then something in JKR style changed. the fourth book was only the tip of the iceburg. the last book sucked most of all any book i've ever read. it was to quick in the end, didn't make sence, and my fav char died in vain!

wanna talk about symbolism, ever read Animal Farm??? exactically what you said, and nothing BUT symbolism!!! and it was THE worst book i've ever read! >.<
once again my fav character died, and the ending just sucked. it was going good for a while i'll give it that -.-

Why do you think Harry Potter is a load of gabbage? its the best! i never liked The Call of the wild, because, i didn't read the book. I saw the movie, and it was gross! the bad white dog, Spitz kills dogs and when he was taken away, it showed the dead ripped-apart-body of the dog! yuck! jawdropper.gif

there are SO many versions of The Call of the Wild in movie, but i can say the book is MUCH better than all. you should try reading it ^^
and White Fang too if you like it ;)

And like some of you, many of the books i hate are ones i had to read for school, like: Uncle Tom's Cabin, Breathing Underwater, Tuesdays with Morrie, and The Good Earth. My friends liked these books because they have symbolism!!!! I don't CARE! If it doesn't have a good plot/in the genre i like (fiction, horror), then it's simply not worth my time!! and don't bother argueing with me cause thats NEVER going to change.
strangely enough all of those books were assigned by the same teacher in two different English classes. i had a different teacher last year that assigned different books, like Hamlet and Beowulf. both i thought were excellent even though i'm usually not a big fan of Shakesphere. ^^

but another book i can't STAND...i just know i'm going to be mauled by rabid fan girls for this...is Twilight. TOOOOOO much drama. bored me to almost tears and what's with glittering vampires?!?! O.o
it'd been better if told by Edward's point of view, but now i doubt there's any chance of me EVER reading the rest. it was given WAY too much publicity, and it's ALL I ever hear about it. just clicking the books topic on this BS forum i counted like 5 topics just on the first page!!!

Roi: I read Animal Farm in my English class last year, and even though symbolism was thrown everywhere, it was still a very interesting read.

Anyways, worst books I've read:

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Okay, here's what ticks me off: Book was WAY too long, movie was WAY too short. Plus, Sirius died :()

Star Wars: Jedi Apprentice series (Wow, these books were really boring. I love Star Wars, but reading about Obi-Wan's past as a Padawan was just really uninteresting to me. I read all the way to Day of Reckoning because I really liked Xanatos.)

Twilight Series (Explaination even needed?)

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Wasn't terrible, but too many deaths...many were in vain...why kill off Tonks? I can understand Remus, but why Tonks? Poor Teddy is a Harry clone now. Plus, got a little too long...especially with the incredibly long camping out sessions...they didn't even have s'mores to go with that camping trip.)

The Bellmaker (Redwall book) (Okay, I really enjoy the Redwall books...but I think there's just one too many...Bellmaker didn't appeal to me and I lost interest about the sixth chapter.)
