And since everyone else seems to be doing it, I'd say that I am mostly on AS on-and-off between the hours of 10 AM and 10 PM. I have a pretty random work scheduale, so it's hard for me to be on a certain time consistently. But I am on AS quite a lot and spend a bunch of my time here. I would love the opportunity to help with the site that I have been a part of for four years. (I think thats right...)

JerseyCaptain wrote: Roi Doberwolf wrote: To add to what Moss said, do you guys want us to resign? I keep getting that vibe when you say ''well if you don't think you're up to it then just quit''. You REALLY think that will make things better? Isn't MORE mods a better idea instead of less? No one is asking for specific resignations. They are asking for voluntary ones IF the mods in question (whomever they are) see no priority in doing the jobs they agreed to doing. You guys sure seem like you want that, we seem to be to "lazy" and don't deny it, we are being called that. JerseyCaptain wrote: Roi Doberwolf wrote: So terribly sorry you don't get weekly selections. Sorry we're a bit late on approving (sometimes rules are broken and things are actually NOT approved) images, fics, fan art, etc. Sorry we don't waste enough of our lives here for you. But we do try. I think that's unfair, and an overreaction. No one said that you aren't putting this site before your personal lives. Let's not turn it into that by spin doctoring this into something it isn't. I don't think this is an overreaction at all, we try to keep up with the more active sources (Balto, Lion King, and now Spirit) but the lesser ones? They don't even get ENOUGH fan art and images to update them monthly. We get complaints "Why haven't you updated Rio Source, or Bambi Source" We TRY. But if we don't get anything that belongs in the weekly section, then we can't. JerseyCaptain wrote: Roi Doberwolf wrote: And we have taken suggestions and every post here into consideration. We have decided to attempt updating selections more (if the source in question is active enough for it that is), and we've taken more measures to try and get more help. What else can we do for you? Beats me, but I'm sure you'll tell us. Doesn't what you said in this snippet directly contradict your complaint I just quoted above? I think everyone who has posted (for the most part) believes that the key is to add MORE mods, and probably to resume the source-specific mod assignments, rather than general, broad-spectrum moderating, which is clearly overwhelming existing staff members. One mod JUST got to several reports I filed within the last two to three MONTHS. That's a long wait. And by then, in the case of shoutbox reports, the log had moved on so much that there was no way for the mod to look back at the chat log without clicking through many pages of records, which is time-consuming and exasperating. He suggested that the members ought to be taking screen shots of such things. Not to pick on him (REALLY), but now reports themselves are not enough? Hell, even with the questionable nature of many staff members of the past, at least when there was source-specific moderating, reports were generally able to be responded to quicker. We want MORE mods. We want source-specific duties. Not broad-spectrum moderating limited to less than twenty people (for a site this big). But the problem is that STEET has to assign new mods (as far as I am aware). And I think we know the end run there. Given that, I think we're entitled to more than a little frustration. I personally would'y like for mods to have source-specific duties, I prefer we can do all sources and all sections. So if one mod (not pin-pointing anyone) doesn't do their job, we have back-up hands. And its true, Steet hasn't even been doing his part as a WEBMASTER. And us mods get the blame it seems. We are trying everything we can, we are trying to get ahold of Steet to make everyone's 'suggestions' come true. Its not easy. I got some help from Hecate and Nakou to finally get ahold of Steet. (bless them) Also take note of what Roi said at the end 'I'm not accusing everyone of calling us 'terrible mods' or the like. I'd just like to make it clear that things are always changing, and hopefully for the better. So just bear with us.'

We've already mentioned that we're not calling anyone out specifically, if you've been doing your job as you claim, there's not really any reason to get upset with that. But that really depends on who "we" is referring to now doesn't it? Now listen, I have a decent amount of respect for most people on staff at this moment. For all that's happened in the past few months, it is a hard job, we understand that. But as you said, things are always changing, the matter is finding out what needs to be changed (which we've made a lot of good suggestions) and just getting them carried out.

(not speaking about anyone here) I have noted in me previous point, to make your suggestions come true, we need Steet. That's about the hardest problem to solve.

And while I DO happen to have thoughts on some who need to either voluntarily resign or be involuntarily removed, most I think are simply overworked or over-tasked. Neither I nor anyone else has denied that fact. Moss wrote: JerseyCaptain wrote: I think that's unfair, and an overreaction. No one said that you aren't putting this site before your personal lives. But if we don't get anything that belongs in the weekly section, then we can't. I've already provided the same kinds of potential solutions to this problem that other members have. And I still think it's an overreaction. I have nothing against Roi. In fact, I tend to think that, though she comes on a bit strong in some of her "now drop it" posts on the forum, she IS otherwise an active moderator who is very visually active...in a way that can be SEEN by the members. Moss wrote: And its true, Steet hasn't even been doing his part as a WEBMASTER. And us mods get the blame it seems. (bless them) I think it's pretty apparent, if one takes even a casual look around the rant board as well as in various places on the sources, that most of the blame for the problems we have been having over site management fall most strongly (and appropriately) onto steet's shoulders, not those of the mods. Stop being melodramatic about it. Yes, the mods do get some share of the blame from members in general. But you have to come to terms with the fact that you, as moderators, are the front line of the management of this site. The ones the members interact with (and deal with in some cases, quite frankly) regularly...or at least occasionally. Not steet. Steet doesn't come around except very rarely. He's already broken the promise he made sure was posted on all the shoutboxes of the English side of this site, that he'd be available to address member concerns and questions at a certain time on certain days. Which is obviously moot now, as he doesn't do it. Yes, Hecate especially has been very proactive in TRYING to help us all here on the English side, and she hasn't been given the credit she really deserves for all of that. She takes the time to come here and TRY. So does Nakou. Hell, these two ought to be considered for co-admin positions for those reasons alone, were they willing to undertake such Herculean tasks. I am pretty certain that, unlike MANY co-admins of the past on this side (and I won't name names, but I absolutely know whom I refer to), they have never played petty politics and games with the members, or turned into vicious little trolls who have since made misery for this site. But back to steet: whenever he DOES see these repeated and mounting frustrations and complaints, instead of taking proactive steps to try and foster a situation which will ALLEVIATE the stress he faces, he instead (and perhaps unintentionally) ADDS to it by withdrawing further from the problem and bawwing about how nobody understands all the work he's put into it, how difficult managing and organizing this site is, and how no one appreciates it, and how everyone on the English side is always complaining...that all of his problems stem from THIS SIDE. Most of that is actually his fault. Solely. Because he backs himself into a corner and becomes defensive and hostile over all of this. People originally weren't so bitter about this, but his poor handling of these mounting situations MADE it what it is currently. Nothing else. He could easily decide, as owner of this site, on a small stable of people who could be co-administrators, who would have the authority to deal with these things, with more authority than moderators. The way it used to be (though he NEEDS to be accessible should one or more of those administrators start faltering in their jobs, or start doing contradictory, egocentric or downright boneheaded things, so that he can consider their removal if the situations warrant. He NEEDS to do that!). Steet needs to change MUCH of his attitude, and just get over here and deal with this stuff. He needs to devote some time to it, and then develop a plan for fixing it. Too many people have already e-mailed and/or PMed him with suggestions, advice and offers of help. He either totally ignores them, or blows those contacts off as either unreliable suggestions (when many of them actually are totally reliable) or things he doesn't want to do. But if not those, he needs to DO...SOMETHING.

If steet cannot manage the staff, the site needs a webmaster for that. Clean and simple. (Even though Grey was the second webmaster?)

Grey left the English side and stays mostly on the French side now. She's asked Steet to remove her, but he won't in case there's an emergency and she is needed. Otherwise, she doesn't do anything. (Can't say I blame her.)
But yes, if Steet is not willing to take up responsibility and help this site out, we DO need a new webmaster.

The story going around is that Grey and steet had a pretty bad falling out, and that Grey now refuses to come over to the English side (thanks to a lot of your former fellow moderators and their friends, who turned troll and viciously accosted her).

Ah, well that's a shame. I was going to suggest asking her to add new people to the staff.

To me the number of mods is not the problem, but the fact they only update the sites on which they frequently go. So I think the best solution would be to add in the mod panel a section to update creations sent on every site - or be aware of the creations waiting on other sites. I will do that, but you have to keep in mind that nowadays, I really don't have so much time to dedicate to programming on AS unfortunately (not to mention that I'm tired of programming each and every day at work), so I'm doing what I can with the time I have. Maintaining the sites already takes up most of that time.
That said, I'll see about adding new mods soon.

That said, I'll see about adding new mods soon. If you were to give the day-to-day administration and conflict resolution to a small stable of co-admins (as I said above), that would free up some of your time. Then you could concentrate, when the time was available, to fixing glitches and other technical issues. You would FREE yourself of the social things which bother you so much (except where you'd have to deal with any possible complaints about a co-admin who somehow was creating trouble or had some problems with a member that only a higher-up like yourself could resolve). You would free yourself from a lot of the things you seem to hate dealing with. I should think that'd be reason enough to start reconsidering this co-admin thing. BUT -- and this is vitally important -- if you had to deal with a problem regarding a co-admin (whether it was the co-admin who needed your attention, or someone who was sending you a complaint or concern about a co-admin), you would have to respond to it in a timely fashion...not put it off on the "back burner" to get around to it when it was convenient. That mindset is what has earned you so many critics lately (or at least one of the things anyway).

There is a expectation for the site's management, but they cannot, even if working together, do it just with themselves alone. Some problems would still be, even with the addition of a site panel: Shout box unprotected Must sees barely updated Rules unenforced I'm not trying to tear you down, I'm just sayin' it like it is.

Agreed. It most definitely IS the number of mods...and it is woefully inadequate to the job. Practically every mod, and many members, have said the same thing. The staff needs to be larger. And you need to consider NEW people in those roles, or a few who were dismissed (recently or less-than recently) for no good reason. And NOT re-mod people whom we all have seen that have turned into trolls and troublemakers (*REAL troublemakers, not just people who are upset with the way things are and happen to be complaining about it). Stop knuckling under every time a troll threatens you.

There are more sites than mods, and the mods are overwhelmed because of it. It doesn't make it any easier when they have their own lives to deal with either. And if you're so tired of programming, don't go to the trouble to add a feature that will likely not even solve the problem(and remember, it's not only the activations that need attention, but reports and drama). Perhaps useful (the notification that there are new submissions for another site. I don't quite understand what you meant by the other half), but it isn't the answer. And also stated before, a co-admin would be a good idea, as that would lift a lot of stress off of your shoulders.
