Hmmmm... You know? You're right! This topic is a lot better than the previous ones!

One of the factors that makes it the best, though, it simply the fact that this is about the only one that's survived for a decent amount of time.

I think that's more a sign of its quality than a contributor, really. To put it in concrete terms, buildings aren't well-made because they last long, they last long because they are well made. But I'm splitting hairs.

First of all, this topic is stupid. It's basically going to lead to a big old fight putting Dusty and some other gal-dog against each other and eventually it'll get locked. Pointless.

Secondly, it's impossible to even get a good answer as Kodi's personality really wasn't that well explained. We know this much about him:

- Kodi is Aleu's brother [AKA he's a part of the WQ6.].
- Kodi is a young sled dog - about three years old.
- Kodi wants to be a lead dog like his daddy, Balto.

...and that's it. Heck, ANY female would suit him if he really had the screentime to show more personality, but all we got was THAT. Yeah, he sorta learned a lesson at the end to help save Duke at just the right time... but we never saw him interested in a girl. Not even Dusty... though there was a hint that maybe she was a bit interested in him... Again, that's what I observed. [Please don't get started with the "But Dusty is with Ralph blah-blah-blah" stuff. I ship that too, but I SHIP EVERYTHING. This is the wrong topic for that. Thanks.]

And thirdly - the BIG ONE - who else is there other than Dusty? I mean, yeah, some fans could hook him up with Dixie, Sylvie or even his MOM [Don't get me started, but there were hints... off-topic because not everyone likes that. I do though - I SHIP EVERYTHING.], but again, WHO ELSE? Well, there is Kirby also, which I do ship... but again, not everyone likes that either. It's not like we see any girls in WoC that we clearly know other than Dusty, Jenna and Dipsy; yeah, one of the dogs from the first movie was in a scene, but was it really her? The world may never know.

Sure, you could put together some OC dog together just so you can write a stupid little fic in which she and Kodi instantly fall in love and have puppies, but it's common, stupid, and downright DUMB to do so. If you're going to do that, at least do it right... Add some meat and real development to your story's bones, okay?

Inn the end, I think he's better off with no one. He's in love with his job, and that's probably more satisfying than any girl could ever be in his mind. Again, my two cents in a pointles topic.

I'm all for it too. This should have been locked ages ago. Really, I think these kinds of topics should be banned, they're all stupid.

EDIT: I'll re-open, but with a warning to those who don't like the topic to simply NOT post. Only reason for re-open is because there had been no fights. Yet. Fight breaks out, it gets locked.

Now looking back over some of the more, ah, cynical posts, I recognize that Jucchan does have one point I can agree with: love at first sight fanfics are rather lame. Not only that, but stories of that nature both feed and feed on unrealistic expectations of romance. On the other hand, it's unfair to categorize them so broadly; some fanfics about them are well-written. I think redwolf03's story about them, "The Right Time," serves as a good model; it establishes that they have a history together, and it works with something more substantial and worth addressing than the mushy-gooey "Oooh, I love you" junk.

There is no certain way that Kodi is meant for Dusty or any of Kodi's teammates. However, there is evidence supporting both sides. We should assume that either Kodi and Dusty are one, or that Dusty is neutral. Either way, there is no solid evidence... just quick glances, smiles, and even gestures to Kodi or to Ralph.

To be honest, doesn't this sort of thing happen with co-workers all the time? Just because you do one of those things [quick glance, smile, gestures, etc.] to someone of the opposite sex does not mean that you're in love with them - it's probably just some little thing that all dogs do, that's all. Aren't people the same way?



I had a feeling you'd agree with that, DT.

One could say that Balto and Jenna's relationship was just a little like this in the first movie [it was rather sudden...], but at least they did have some sort of a development and not a simple "love at first sight" thing. Well, Jenna's support for Balto may have just grown only because it seemed that other dogs wanted to pair her up with either the town zero [Balto] or the town "hero" [Steele] because... well, they too were fan-shippers and guess who she'd been seen with?

Balto, on the other hand, was sort of "at first sight". He was a brooding Romeo, wishing that he could just gather the courage to speak his mind and probably woo her [though I wonder if he knew what the word meant... or what the feeling he was feeling was]. At least Boris knew what it was with a mile away. Once realizing what the most important thing to Jenna was - Rosy, if you didn't already know - Balto definitely used that to his advantage and had a new drive to try and achieve that sledding dream of his. Fast-forward 45 minutes later, and we all know that after non-existent blood, sweat, some obvious tears, and nearly dying at least two or three times... it definitely worked.

Now, to connect this to the point of this topic: Kodi's love interest(s) and what's best for him.

He never admits that he loves a girl/guy/goose/whatever, but we know that he takes his sledding job super seriously [his sledmates beg to differ and ended up joking and making fun of him for it; they end up nearly eating their words about 15 min later when their jobs are now on the line] because it means so much to him. He looks up to his dad and probably that's where the sledding love comes from. Watch the flashback during "You Don't Have To Be A Hero" and it shows that bonding It makes him feel special, important, a part of something bigger than just himself [sorta like Aleu and the wolf pack in WQ... sorta?].

Isn't that feeling and sense of importance almost like love in a way?

Also, "The Right Time" is an excellent recommendation. I'm not afraid to admit that I've written stories with "love at first sight", but this method is more for a hopeless romantic type of character [or a naive one - you know what I mean: one that's only read/heard of fairy tales and thinks that a handsome/beautiful love interest will arrive on a white sled and instantly sweep him/her [most likely HER] away into the sunset blah-blah-blah...]. Kodi, unfortunately, is not one of them - sorry, fan-shippers! He seems like a tough nut to crack, and one would probably have to tolerate his talking of sledding all the time. No ordinary gal would suit him - she'd have to be someone heavily compatible to him, in my opinion.




Whew... Okay, I'm done ranting a bit. And also, thank you, Roi~ I personally think this topic is redundant and pointless, but as long as no one goes into berserk-fan-shipper mode, we'll be good - honest!

Anyway, I just ASSUMED that Kodi and Dusty are together, but that doesn't confirm anything. Again, nobody knows if Dusty has an affection to anyone.
