I'm not anti-American. I don't know how to defend myself without offending Americans, so I'm just gonna stay out of this topic. People die every day, I just don't understand why 9/11 gets so much attention is all.

That was the largest terrorist attack on the Western World. Let's put it this way, what if someone went into Edinburgh, or another major city in your country, like Glasgow, and spontaneously killed thousands of your countrymen and women, would you be worked up about it, or would you just shrug your shoulders, and say it's not a big deal? And trust me, the problems in Africa get huge press here in the states...You don't go a day without hearing something about it.

I wouldn't if it happened 9 years ago, I'll tell you that much. I live in Edinburgh, and yeah, it would be pretty bad. But life goes on, and I would get over it. I was sad and shocked about 9/11 when it happened, but it's something I just don't think about anymore. And it's not because it didn't happen in my country - even if it did, it's still something I'd get over. And I've got a question for you - would it matter so muchto you if it happened elsewhere? I know how ridiculously patriotic some Americans get about this sort of thing.

If I may say something... I'm an American born and raised up in the dead center of the country, it probably is a lot different for an American to look at 9/11 than somebody who isn't American. Noticing that you're Scottish and all, you will never have the same feelings that Americans have. I mean we were attacked on our own soil for the first time since 1941 and it was the largest attack on American citizens in the history of America. It showed a slight weekness, a chink in the armor of one of the strongest and most recognized countries in the world. I'm not going to expect you to have the same feelings towards the attacks, just like if something tragic like that were to happen in Scotland tomorrow, I would be deeply saddened and a slight bit enraged about it but I would never feel the same way you do since I do not live in Scotland. The same people who attacked us slightly over 9 years ago are still a threat, not just to the American public, but to the world. They have already had three terrorist attacks foiled within the last year, from the underpants bomber on Christmas day in Detroit, to the car bomb that malfunctioned in Time's Square in New York. And what's so wrong about the people of it's country wanting to stand behind it's citizens. Am I trying to glorify America? Not in any ways what so ever. All I'm saying we care for each individual within our own country and around the world. When one person is attacked on an act of terror it's an attack against every single person in America. We are a very strong willed and patriotic nation and if people hate us for loving and getting behind our people in times of peril than so be it. I know you are not anti-American and I thank you for being one of the one's that isn't. All I am trying to say is please show your respect to the approximatley 3000 men and women who died. That is all I'm asking of you is not to go off saying that this should be forgotten because I can tell you this much 50 years from now I will remember September 11, 2001 as if it was just yesterday.

Very well said. I agree with you on every point there. And Rebelness, we weren't calling you anti-american. That had something to do with Conay I believe.

I never said anything anti-American in this topic, my statement was "as anti-American as I can be; I still...". so to the guys in this topic who are constantly making witty comments about me here and on other topics, get a life - and stop twisting my words. I was simply stating that I had been anti-American in the past, and on some issues, I can be.

NewYorkBaltoFan wrote: We're all in this together. I must say, that gives me nasty reminders about the financial situation in Britain, xD- and of one particular person, for that matter. But seriously, actually creating a plan about what you would do if there was another terrorist attack... That's rather unneeded. For example, if the Freedom Tower blew up, could yo really put this plan in action? Or would you literally be shocked like I would be? Also, not going up to the Freedom Tower is what they want! They want to change our lives, they want people to fear them. Use London for example, the day AFTER the London Bombings (7/7) people were complaining at bus stops (my mum and nan were one of these people) all around London that the buses were running late (as usual)! If we start fearing them, then that will just create more fear if they ever really start attacking any country. Once again, using London as an example - after the blitz, did London, or even England fear the German's so much that they wouldn't go about their daily business in London? If we are all in this together, none of this can show the slightest bit of fear.

And that was 3,000 out of 2,000,000. And it was 9 years ago. 28,800 African children die every day. Someone dies every second. So maybe that's why I'm not all worked up and 'baww' over 9/11. There is quite a lot of news coverage, intellectual news articles in magazines (and I am not talking trash magazines like People and OK! and such...but serious news and political ones) and on largely American forums online about the troubles elsewhere in the world. I can't count the number of times I have seen extensive articles in the Sunday "magazine" editions of the Sunday newspapers which detail the worst and most vicious despots all over the world, and the evils perpetrated upon their people BY those despots and their cronies. AND Americans have been spending a great deal of time keeping a sympathetic eye on the countries of Europe (Spain, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, etc.) that have also been harrassed by terroristic Muslim extremists. So enough about the nonsense of 9/11 getting unfair attention. THAT disaster just happened to be a seminal event in modern history. You may not like it, but such events will always garner more attention and discussion than the goings-on in third-world nations...an attack on a major world power (especially when that world power has ties and involvements elsewhere in the world) caught up in the political intrigue and machinations of the time is simply, by default, going to get that sort of attention. Additionally, and again - whether or not you happen to like it, there hasn't been an attack upon the United States since the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese in World War II. THAT is significant. And before that attack, it would have been as far back as the War of 1812 when a foreign power attacked U.S. soil. That is a LONG time. Just as significant as was the attack upon a Russian school by Georgian terrorists...which was THE news item in the U.S. when it happened. Americans know very well (especially those of us born before the 1980s) that Russia used to be one of the world's most powerful and formidable nations, as the Soviet Union. An attack upon Russian soil, especially a SCHOOL, is quite significant. So I am not impressed with your lessening of a tragedy by playing the "parity" game. Conay wrote: I was simply stating that I had been anti-American in the past, and on some issues, I can be. And frankly you HAVE expressed that anti-American attitude on forum topics which discuss American issues, or which include American things (such as the football/soccer topic and that issue). So you are just as guilty of misrepresenting yourself, with THAT statement (and your rant) as you claim those who have "unfairly" pegged you. You have a penchant for pressing people's buttons and enjoying the subsequent chaos it creates in here, and that is not what you ought to be doing.

Yes Jersey, I HAVE expressed Anti-American views on this site - I admit to that. BUT, you take the simplest comment to the extreme. But no, people (especially in this topic) have unfairly pegged me, I have said NOTHING A-American on this topic, and yet I'm getting stick for it. And I think you'll find I don't "try and press people's buttons", and I most certainly don't enjoy chaos, perhaps wer should leave it at that? NewYorkBaltoFan wrote: Conay wrote: NewYorkBaltoFan wrote: We're all in this together. But seriously, actually creating a plan about what you would do if there was another terrorist attack... That's rather unneeded. They run ads all the time in New York about how everyone needs to do that. If you have a city on an island with very few ways on and off... it's not uneeded. It's essential. And just about every New Yorker has played this scenario out in their mind. I'm one of the few people that would not immediately leave the city. I just feel safer in a park than I do on a crowded bridge or in a tunnel which in itself would become a target. Please don't tell me it's un needed unless you live here. My aunt walked 30 miles and over the George Washington Bridge on 9/11. She told me that if it happened again, she's going to a park because it's safer. If she was in the city on 9/11 and she says that you NEED a plan... then I'm coming up with one. End of story. But then, what if you were in another building? Or the other side of NY, what plan do you have then?
