What I see here is someone wanting attention by disagreeing with the other members. This is solely my opinion, and no one else has to think so, but I'm now saying what I think:
Steve Winwood was the perfect choice for this movie. Replacing him with a metal/pop singer would have ruined it entirely. Who would want to watch an amazing and touching movie that had it's music done by someone whose voice didn't match the mood to the least? In my opinion, the music makes half the movie.
Baltoluv, We get that you like metal and nothing else, but having an open mind never hurt anyone. And you said that you didn't even finish listening to the song before stating that you didn't like it...? To be honest, I think you're aching for attention and decided to get it by mentioning singers/bands that wouldn't make the song rightm and causing the members to disagree with you. And I'm not accusing anyone, I'm just stating what I think. This may not be entirely true, but it's what this is starting to look like.
Again, I'm not trying to start a fight, I'm just simply saying what I think of this topic and the posts being made.

A lot of metal fans feel that way (my brother included). Personally I think that it would be a ridiculous choice for this movie as most people probably do. It's been my experience that metal fans like to push metal on everything and try to prove that it has a place everywhere as a response to people that don't like metal making generalizations about the genre and writing it off entirely as "just a bunch of screaming" and things of that nature. It's like they have a chip on their shoulder and use any mention of music as an excuse to tell everyone how great metal is and how the stereotypes aren't true because it can cover a lot of topics and moods. Don't get me wrong, I like metal, but I agree with you. People don't even try it and say it's "just screaming" and automatically don't like it, but I'm not saying it's right for everything. Balto, for example.

I find that Reach for the Light, in the way it was written and presented, was perfect for its application. I can say without a seconds thought that Reach for the Light is hands down the most inspirational song I have heard from any soundtrack. Perhaps its not the most epic, but no means is it epic actually, that would defeat its intended mood. It takes a lot for music to invoke a significant emotional effect on me, and Reach for the Light is one of the very few songs that can. Perhaps because i can apply it to learning to fly. Anyway, that quality would easily be lost by genre change, or even artist change.
