Tally awoke without a sound, immediatly alert. SHe stood up softly, looking around with cautious brown eyes before slipping outside. She padded over to Ranger, a night wind ruffling her yellow pelt.

Ranger nodded to her.
"You think we should go get the others? Old Ira doesn't like large groups of dogs seeing him, but I think Tucker and Kali deserve to hear what he has to say as well."

"Yeah, I guess they do," Tally agreed. "Let's go get 'em then," she said, turning in the direction of where their houses lay.

Ranger followed her, letting Tally lead. As they approached the police station, Tucker was already waiting, and when he saw them, he began hopping up and down, then ran towards them. Ranger smirked.
"I can never understand how Tuck is always so hyper in the morning."

Tucker made it to them and started jumping up and down again.
"Hi guys! I couldn't sleep at all last night! Could you? Because I was way too excited to find out what Ira has to say! I bet he'll tell us to run away from here because the mountains gonna explode. You think that's gonna happen? Because I think that's gonna happen!

"Seriously Tuck! CAlm down!" Tally said, the wods barely audible over Tuck's excited babbling.

Ranger shook his head, listening to the words flying out of Tuckers mouth at one million miles per hour.
"You know, Tucker, you really need to calm it down. This is a serious matter we're dealing with here."

Tucker stopped his babbling.
"Sorry guys."

Ranger turned to Tally.
"Okay, let's go get Kali."

Tally nodded. "Her house is that way, right?" she asked, uncertain, her nose pointing in the direction she meant to indicate.

Ranger sighed.
"I don't know where Kali lives, Tally. I was letting you lead because I thought you knew.

Tally let out a sigh as she realized that she had never botherd to learn where Kali had lived. "NO, I don't know," she said, a hint of exasperation creeping into her voice. "I guess we'll have to leave her behind then," she said.

Kali padded up then, having heard their voices drifting through the streets. "Why would you leave me behind?" she asked, confused.

Ranger breathed a sigh of relief.
"Kali, you have got to tell us where you live one of these days. Not right now, though. Old Ira's place is a good 3 hour walk from here. Let's go."
Ranger gestured for everyone to follow as he started walking.

Tucker looked up at Tally.
"You guys should have asked me, I know where she lives."

Tally sighed. "YOu should've told us that," she retorted.

Kali was practically bouncing with excitement, lke usual, as she walked beside the group of dogs.

Tucker looked down dejectedly.
"I was afraid you'd tell me to be quiet again."

Three hours later found them climbing a rocky path about two thirds up the mountain directly to the south of Wallace. There weren't many trees, so the breeze, mixed with the cold, November mountain air was almost unbearably cold. Ranger shivered as a large gust blew past, almost blowing Tucker off his feet.

"Woah! Ranger, how much farther?"

Tally looked at Ranger questioningly, she hadn't been paying attention, letting her paws follow them and her mind wander as they climbed the mountians. So she wasn't sure either.

Kali made a huge mistake of looking over the side of c liff that dropped to a small, miniscule ground. Her head swam with vertigo, and she backed up quickly, trembling slightly.

Ranger looked back at them.
"Not much farther now. We just need to finish climbing this last hill, then cross the bridge to his cabin."
He stopped and looked at Kali a second.
"Hey Kali. Are you okay?"

"Uh y-yeah. I-I'm fine," Kali said shakily, trying to stop vertigo from overwhelming her.

"You don't sound fine," Sadie said, sounding concern, a bit of worry for her friend shown in her deep brown eyes.
