I've had the opportunity but I'm not very adventurous when it comes to food. Abi like me but I'm fussy and have a WIERD diet, spicy Noodles for breakfast every morning for example!! I love raw beef and fish for day meals and raw onions wit olive oil and salt.and i dont like sweet things much! I miss the puke similes they were great for this thread!! With all due respect to non evolutionary beliefs, there is a reason behind being reluctant to try new foods we where not bought up on, for humans and other animals. It comes down to evolution and before we where homo-sapiens as we are today. any new food could be potentially poisonous an so to protect our ancestors from dangerous foods we didn't want to eat them and found them unappetizing, it may even start in what is in a mothers milk. Disliking other sorts of change probably has similar reasons. Bu back to subject....

Disliking other sorts of change probably has similar reasons. Perhaps on a VERY basic level. But I certainly don't think that carries much weight with a sentient, intelligent species like us. One which employs reason to overcome instinct. I think it comes down more to what we are simply accustomed to culturally and personally. And what we were raised on. Kids turn their noses up at vegetables too, but we as a species have been omnivores for millions of years...long before our hominid predecessors even started to sample meat. So how do you explain a kid's aversion to vegetables? Instinct? I wouldn't believe that for a second. The same would do with meat in general. Now...the more exotic and/or aromatic stuff? That's a tougher sell, surely.

I always thought it was a myth spread by old TV shows. But it could be different in the US. I'm from Europe after all. Well, I don't think it's universally the case. Nor do I think it is an American phenomenon. But it is something that has been used for comic effect in television and movies, sure. And yet, there are probably many kids who have little to no problem with vegetables at all. Some kids just seem to have a stubborn streak, and can be very difficult for mothers and fathers who try to feed them vegetables...especially certain ones which have a strange physical consistency or odd flavor. The usual running list of common vegetables which kids seem to turn their noses up at (and some of these would have been on my personal list as a kid, and a few STILL are): pickled beets lima beans baked beans yams sweet potatoes squash asparagus broccoli cabbage cauliflower spinach succotash (actually a mix of yellow corn, lima beans and string beans, and either cubed carrots or red bell peppers...or some other beans...sometimes even made as a stew) (conversely, vegetables such as corn - on the cob or off, peas, carrots, string beans, celery, cucumbers, lettuce - at least the less-bitter kinds, bean sprouts, other kinds of potatoes, onions, even garlic generally tend to be received better...generally.) Then you have some of the more colorful vegetable selections of the southern United States...particulary evident in what we call "soul food" and also creole cooking ( http://www.gumbopages.com/recipe-page.html): collard greens (as well as mustard greens and turnip greens: http://southernfood.about.com/od/collardgreens/a/aa031100a.htm) turnips okra (they also use sweet potatoes, corn, and even peanuts. I happen to like okra when it is breaded and fried, but not turnips and CERTAINLY not any of those "greens")

The nastiest things I've ever eaten, was a grub (a dare by a buddy out on a hike. A pretty big one too) it probably would've tasted good fried. Lol
And a scorpion (stinger removed of course. That was another dare by one of the guys on the patrol I was a member of) it was real crunchy, but tasted so bad, it's difficult to describe.

I've eaten sme weird/disgusting stuff... Hmmm, these things actually didn't make me sick, but it probably would for other people:
-A waffle with cheese on it(Cheesewaffle. the idea actually came from a weird game my best friend made up(Think Duck Duck goose but with Waffle as a duck and cheeseburger as goose. And then you could say cheese-waffle.)) -One of those toaster strudel omelets -NOT- the regualar fruit with whipped cream. (It tasted weird) -A sandwich with Strawberry syrup, honey, and gummiworms on it.(The Sandwich xD) -Scooby-Snak dog Treats xD(I was little...) I ate ALL of that in one day, excluding the dogfood.
Things that I actually didn't like to eat/drink but have tried before: - Any softdrink besides the fruit tasting ones.(Like Strawberry, Peach, Grape etc.) - Stuffed peppers(I prefer meatloaf, with all the rice, and a ton of ketchup) - Guacamole(Gah I hate it. It just... it's too smooth... and green.) - Ocra(From both school and home so I can officially say I hate it.) - Fish(besides tuna) - Shrimp(Same as ocra. I used to like it, tho) - Dirt(I was younger than 7. I thought it was cool...) - Squash(I dunno why I hate it so much) - I forget the rest. But out of all that, the grossest would be Guacamole.
