If you ask me, anything that's not too explicit should be allowed. Something like, leading up to the "sex" and then trailing off, having a "time gap" (I use the gap in many RPs - building up to the content and then skipping the time period, being non-expilicit).
If you ask me, it's the safer route.
Example: Jackamo moved over to Silverette, kissing her on the neck softly. Their eyes travelled to the bed, and Jackamo's face spread into an inviting smile as they moved towards it, kissing lightly with murmurs of their love for one another.
(Time Lapse.) Jackamo stretched, reaching to the bedside to flick off the screaming alarm clock. Silverette was in the shower, humming a light tune to herself. He could smell coffee in the machine brewing, the sweet aroma enticing him.
That's what I'm talking about. Of course, some of the cootie-believing people will still find that too much. But is romance such a repulsive thing? In my personal opinion, it should be allowed - as long as it's softer and doesn't go into detail (and, if you ask me, the "time lapse" is a good thing).
If people have a problem with romance on BS, then maybe the Internet isn't the place for them at all (after all, you can find anything on the internet).
If you do not follow my views, please be respectful. The above "excerpt" is for example only, so don't flip out on me. It's nothing of mine, just made up. ;]

Seems perfectly fine in my eyes, and I can't see it doing any harm to anybody. If people have a problem with romance, that is a personal problem. The site does not deal with personal problems, nor should it be expected to. If they don't want to read romance of any kind, they themselves should steer away from it. That's basically their only option. However, I must point out to you that the material you mentioned is not the material in question of being banned. I do hope you realize that.

That's exactly what I think should be allowed. It's enough to make the story flow, but still not too descriptive. Perfect example right there Kirada. ^^ Well said. =)

I want to react on one point : Quote: this site was Made for kids No, no and NO. I have NEVER made the site with kids in mind, I have made the site for everyone. And these animated films are "family films", not "kids films". OF COURSE kids are the biggest majority on the site, this is common sense. But I don't want and will never want to restrict the site to be "kids only". "Kids friendly", yes, not "kids only". Quote: who really cares whether or not a certain percentage of members are lost because deviant and questionable content is not permitted? I do. Maybe because I'm not a kid and I want to keep the older members which, generally, are the ones who make the best creations sent on the site, whether it is fanart, articles or fanfics. As of now, I can only see one solution : asking whether you wish to see such content at registration. (and not only the age, because some older members don't want to see them either), and forcing to get an answer. (with multiple validations if necessary) And if a kid chooses to see them, IT'S HIS PROBLEM, not mine. If he chooses to see them, he also chooses to break a rule of the site and the authority of his parents. In that case, it's normal that he gets banned or that his parents refuses him to go there, and personally, I don't want visitors not respecting the rules. Or then, that kid should not go on sites like fanfic.net, because there are much worse fanfics than here (or even deviantart, I'm sure you can see much worse things there either...) Then, I would be able to add filters in order that such content will disappear totally when you've chosen not to see them. And of course, they also won't appear if you're not a registered member. I said I wasn't for this, but that's the only solution I can see.

okay so i've read posts up until now.. everyone has great opinions and matters from my point of view but also.. i've seen this on a site ( suggestion to Steet ) ..
that if you become a member you should state your age group or if not.. your age.. and if --lets say you're 12-- and you want to read a pg-13 Fan fic .. the site would block you from even looking at it because of your age.. but then you also got the mishap of people making another account just to read it.. would be good if you can and should only have one account based by an msn user or something...
was just a suggestion Steet i'm no comp wiz so i don't know these things.. and i've seen this stuff a few times before on other sites.. so ye.. thats basically all i have to say for now

But kids are the future of the world, and that certainly includes this site. Besides, the matter goes beyond fanfics. I have seen art, and even roleplays on the forums wherein members become involved in homosexual relationships. Regular cyber-sex is dangerous enough, but this? It can't go on. steet wrote: Quote: who really cares whether or not a certain percentage of members are lost because deviant and questionable content is not permitted? I do. To the best of my knowledge, cat did not leave the site when the ban was first instated. Rotramel didn't leave. NOBODY, to my knowledge, left because the site prohibited deviant sex. As for the idea of asking if they want to see that, that just makes matters worse! Bad enough to have the chance of kids asking their parents awkward questions. Ask outright and you virtually guarantee that! And what's a decent parent going to do? Probably forbid the kid to go on the site and then, just to be sure, add it to the internet filter on their parental control. Let's face it, anyone who's going to leave just because they can't post literary pornography on here has no place here in the first place. They have their sites, let them keep 'em!

I don't really know how to take what you've said. I mean, with you being a webmaster, your point holds some legitimacy. Whatever their site is, webmasters look out for the prosperity of their site, and the more they disallow, the less traffic, and ultimately the less popular the site is. And your suggestion of the implementation of an "asking" feature is about the best that can be done with a site that harbors questionable material. If you want to disown the responsibility for whatever bad results might occur. And ultimately, it wouldn't be your fault, since you clearly warned them beforehand. But with you being a webmaster, I fail to understand, for one, why you'd settle with helping the minority and neglecting the majority. It just doesn't seem like a wise decision on the webmaster's part.

If you ask me, it's the safer route. If one must include something of that nature, then by all means that's the way to do it. Generally speaking, I've never found any shortcoming in the "Disney approach;" a delicate treatment of the whole matter, as I did in my fanfics (Particularly "Toby Part 11," "Toby Part 12," and "What Are You Talking About?"). But if you must go into that (and I've yet to hear a sensible reason why that's so important), then that's the best way I know of to do so. JerseyCaptain wrote: I might add that there are OTHER people here, some who have been around for a long time, and others who have not, who are capable of creating works of fiction, art or video which could EASILY equal what those others have created...or surpass it. That's right. Consider: Did Charles Dickens need to use incest? No. Did C.S. Lewis put homosexuality in his works? Not a chance. Did J.R.R. Tolkein use zoophilia? Get outta here! True classics don't need cheap, skanky entertainment to make it big. Ghost-Unit)WoF( wrote: I don't really know how to take what you've said. Absalutely. Kids shouldn't be going on the site reading content like that. Even though the fan fiction may be rated PG - 13 some kids ignore the rating and the pop up and just go ahead and read it. It's not safe and not right by my opinion.
For people who agreed no: I'm not trying to start up a fight but there's many other sites who allow the content. Many sites that aren't kid friendly. So it won't be the end of the world if you get defeated. Just please don't go on ranting about it. You just loose your reutation and get banned.
Thank you.
