I'm not trying to be evil...XD but I think that if you know what a certain group or people looks like e.g. Emos/Chavs/Goths/Punks...e.t.c, as most people here do, and you DON'T want to be called one- then don't dress like one!!!! It's that simple.

If in the unlikely case that you don't know what a certain group looks like and you dress like one by mistake- and THEN someone says "OMG I DIDN'T KNOW YOU WERE A...blah blah blahhh" Then I can understand why that would tick you off  .But in today's world, things like this just happen. So live with it and don't let it get you down

They can dress like whatever they want to. Thats the point, but oh no! They're not allowed to dress like this or else it makes them an emo!! They can't listen to this unless they're a goth! They can't wear a hoodie or it makes them a chav!
DO PEOPLE EVEN HAVE FREEDOM ANYMORE!?

*Cowers* I'm sorry! I'm just saying that you can't think that everybody has the same opinion. In today's world, alll these new different "catergories" has produced a very narrow-minded set of people who WILL jump out at you if you wear a hoodie, e.t.c, but then you shouldn't be friends with them if they annoy you! They obviously are very stupid and selfish and you shouldn't be treated like that becasue its your clothes that you chose. DON'T LET IT GET YOU DOWN, BE HAPPY! Then again, If you are the type of person that doesn't like hassle in the first place than don't dress like them too much...you know that if you dye your hair black and wear black clothes and make up you have a chance of being called an emo. It's what some people nowadays are like. I'd just be happy about it and forget those people.

There. THAT'S MY OPINION.I agree with you, but I was just adding what I thought. I 'm sorry if I upset you, but can't I say what I want to say or-

"Do people even have freedom any more?"

They're the ones at fault.

Exactly. Glad we agree on something :D

You are exactly right about that, and that applies to any person who is labeled because of their wardrobe. It's idiotic, and makes absolutely no sense, and yet, people do it anyway. Not to be rude, because I love this rant, but I thought the Rant BOard was for complaining about things on the site, not about life in general. 'Cause it's not like people on here can really see what you're wearing, unless you show them via picture or something.

OK, the only thing that's irritating me is that people are saying 'emo' is 'emotional.' No its not! Me and my mother are emotional but are we emo? No! Not at all.

OK I got this off Dictionary.com

Emo: Emo is a genre of music that originated from hardcore punk early on, and adopted pop-punk influences later on in the 2000s when it became mainstream.

It has since come to describe several variations of music with common roots and associated fashion and stereotypes.

In the mid-1980s, the term emo described a subgenre of hardcore punk which stemmed from the Washington, D.C. music scene. In later years, the term emocore, short for "emotional hardcore", was also used to describe the emotional performances of bands in the Washington, D.C. scene and some of the offshoot regional scenes such as Rites of Spring, Embrace, One Last Wish, Beefeater, Gray Matter, Fire Party, and later, Moss Icon

Starting in the mid-1990s, the term emo began to refer to the indie scene that followed the influences of Fugazi, which itself was an offshoot of the first wave of emo. Bands including Sunny Day Real Estate and Texas Is the Reason had a more indie rock style of emo, more melodic and less chaotic. The so-called "indie emo" scene survived until the late 1990s, as many of the bands either disbanded or shifted to mainstream styles. As the remaining indie emo bands entered the mainstream, newer bands began to emulate the mainstream style. As a result, the term "emo" became a vaguely defined identifier rather than a specific genre of music.

From about 2004 to the present, emo referred to pop-punk bands such as Good Charlotte, Fall Out Boy and Simple Plan who took the influence of original indie emo acts and mixed them with pop-punk in the like of Blink-182.
Then it became a lifestyles of which some emo's would 'cut' or 'slit' wrists or they could be depressed, but thats what I think emo is.

Now whats emotional?

Emotional: –adjective
1. pertaining to or involving emotion or the emotions.
2. subject to or easily affected by emotion: We are an emotional family, given to demonstrations of affection.
3. appealing to the emotions: an emotional request for contributions.
4. showing or revealing very strong emotions: an emotional scene in a play.
5. actuated, effected, or determined by emotion rather than reason: An emotional decision is often a wrong decision.
6. governed by emotion: He is in a highly emotional state of mind.

Now for me I cry easily and sometimes I can get overly joyed.
Example: In Warriors when Cinderpelt died I cried.
On George Lopez, I cried on one sad episode.

Just wanted to point that out.

No. I'm saying you shouldn't revive topics that died long ago without posting anything constructive.

This annoys me, when somebody posts a certain type of song, or picture [of themselves] and somebody on the shoutbox immeditatley perks up with a comment like:
Omg are you an Emo!?
So, if somebody had a certain hairstyle or likes a certain genre of music, doesnt make them ANYTHING.
So lets say some kid dies his hair black and shows us a picture, you've got an 80% chance sombody will say:
You must be an emo cuz your hair is black!!
Um, hello i find this pretty much steriotyping and it could hurt somebodies feelings.
Can people not just say:
Oh, i like your [new] hairstyle! Instead of immediatley pointing 'the steriotype finger'.
So what if someone likes rock or metal music? Does it make them a punk or an emo?
No it doesnt, so people should stop with the steriotyping of these poor people!
[uness. they are infact, 'an emo']
If you dont agree, please say it nicley >D

IT'S NOT EVEN ABOUT EMO'S

OK I understand that but I read that people though emo means emotional and that kinda irritated me.
