This is an easy one =D

No other game can take it's place on my favorite list. This game has the best story to any game i've ever played. While not the best graphics around, it certainly made up for that in game play. Final Fantasy VII

Very long game, very good story, and it was, as all Final Fantasy games are, a very well made RPG. There were plenty of things to do in the game that didn't always involve the story and there were some secrets to the game that revealed more of the story if you took the time to find it.

The only game i can say that compete's with this game would be 'Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core' it was realesed only on the PSP but it told even more to the story of Final Fantasy VII. The whole time playing the game you get closer and closer to Zack and when you get to the end.... it's such a tragic end. That's probably the hardest i've cried in my life when i saw that.. Ugh. I couldn't bring myself to play through the game and actually beat it a second time.

What can i say? I grew up playing that game. For years that's the only game i wanted to play and i made sure i had done all the bonus parts of the game and made sure i unlocked everything. Getting every characters Ultimate Weapon, unlocking ever characters ultimate limit break... Good times.... I wish i could still play it. My copy of the game got broken and they no longer make new copies of the game =(

If anyone has a copy and wouldn't mind parting with it i'd looove to take it off your hands.

If were only including proffecionally made games, then it's a tough choice between half-life 2 and Star Fox 64. (starfox is acctually a family tradition)

If we include non proffecional games then there is a tie between Garry's Mod (the only game that can be called an engineering game, allows the application of mathmatical concepts, and is the best physics sandbox available) and Starfox 64.

That's definitely one of my favorites. It's in my top 3 for sure. But I think if I could only pick one game, it would be Zelda 64: Ocarina of Time.

*looks off into the distance all nostalgic*

Wasn't 64 great...

Good times.

Starfox 64 is acctually sort of a right of passage in my family. To be considered a full brother by my two older brothers, I had to beat Starfox 64. I am prepetuating the ritual with my little brother. So far he's made it all the way to Solar! i'm so proud...

I played goldeneye a few times, it was indeed great, preticularly using gameshark and the paintball cheat

Ah, Ocarina of Time. Now that's an absolute classic. And, they're releasing a remake/port of it for the Nintendo 3DS when it comes out next year. I might have to get that new system just for that game (along with maybe the Mario Kart they're making for it too)

Speaking of remakes, I think they're remaking Goldeneye for the Wii as well. I'm not the biggest James Bond fan out there, but I must admit that this new game has caught my eye.

I hear they're also remaking Starfox 64 for the 3DS when it comes out.

Yeah the N64 is an oddity - looking back on it, it seems like so many people didn't like it at the time. The Playstation kicked its butt in terms of power frankly, and everybody flocked to the Playstation for things like realistic fighting games etc. The PSX also had an optical disc drive while the N64 still used carts, so PSX games had things like real recorded dialogue and actual recorded music while the N64 was still using short samples and MIDI sequencing.

But the N64 had some of the absolute best games ever made, for any console, in the history of gaming. It was hard to see objectively at the time, but looking back on it it was pretty amazing. For one thing, The N64 was the vehicle in which Rare achieved greatness. Look at these games on the N64: Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Banjo-Kazooie, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Tetrisphere (seriously, that game was awesome), Blast Corps, Jet Force Gemini, Mario Kart 64 (still the most fun version IMO), 1080 Snowboarding, Super Smash Brothers, Wave Race 64, and of course Mario 64.

If it had just been Nintendo making the A-list titles that list would have been a lot shorter. But combined with Rare who were making the greatest games of their career, and exclusively for the N64, The N64 actually stands out in history as one of the best consoles ever. The controllers were different and a point of contention for a lot of people, but I had no problem with them personally.

It really is fascinating to me to look back on it. I owned both a PSX and an N64, I could see the advantages and disadvantages of both, but man... the N64's games were, on the whole, just so much better. That all changed in the next generation where the PS2 dominated everything including the Gamecube, but that first gen Sony/Nintendo console war was pretty amazing.

Oh the Tetrisphere thing - it was a really fun puzzle game, but more than that, the soundtrack was done by Neil Voss, and it remains one of my favorite game soundtracks to this day. Seriously awesome tracks, and done within the limitations of the N64 to boot - really amazing. If you want to hear them, go to youtube and search for Tetrisphere. He also did the soundtrack for another N64 puzzle game, The New Tetris. Equally amazing tracks.

I don't really have much desire to break out my Gamecube and play games on it, but I regularly want to go back and play some of those N64 games. :)

Totally Xaqtly, I loved the games Rareware made for the N64. It was their golden age. I spent hours as a kid playing Jet Force Gemini, Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, Killer Instinct Gold, Goldeneye, and Diddy Kong Racing. especially Goldeneye and Diddy Kong Racing with my friends. Though I've never beaten Conker's Bad Fur Day, I did enjoy all the movie references it had  . Man I miss playing those games with my friends, wish I could gather them up to play again, just like old times haha. But the last game I enjoyed by Rareware is Starfox Adventures. I don't really like anything Rareware had made ever since they were switched to Microsoft.

I hold the n64 as a golden console. I remember some of the best games:

Starfox64
wave race
hydro thunder
cruisin' the world
goldeneye
SSB64

and the list goes on.

Starfox was probably my first flying game, after making good 'ol paper airplanes. I attribute those 2 (starfox and paper airplanes) to my maintained passion for aviation and finally flight school. Unfortunatly the weather is bad this weekend, or I'd be flying.

Yes, if it wasn't for the n64 and starfox, it is possible I may never have become a pilot. Flight was a chief interest to me since I was first aware enough to form memory. (so around 3-4 years old). However, at that age, ones interests rarely stick to become passions later. I attribute much of that maintained interest to Starfox 64. (which I played from about five years old to the present, though these days in expert mode). However by 7 years old my passion for aviation was solidified. Now, at fifteen, i'm one fifth of the way to my sport pilot certificate, one tenth of the way through my private pilot certificate, and can't wait to get my instrument flying and multi engine ratings.
