Yeah, well not sounding like a Nazi DT, you just did in that last post. Just don't go naming the members you 'feel' that the site would better off without. I hate to disagree but those people you feel the site would be better off without, other people feel better with them being around.

Oh, I'm well aware of that. But please, since you seem to object when I jump on someone for something they haven't done yet, would you please be so kind as to not do that to me?

It's not so much the members being older. I'm a grownup myself, and I know of at least one very fine and upstanding member who is married with kids. There are a lot of adults on here who care about the younger members, and there are a lot of teenagers who don't. The problem isn't really older members in general, just the ones who think that younger members (and their parents) don't have the right to a safe, wholesome site.

To offer a reply to DT, here goes . . . .

This is the Internet. Nothing much on the Internet nowadays is wholesome, good, clean fun for children, okay? And I understand how you feel - I, myself, am a grown-up, but if I want to have more clean situations for Balto & Co., then I'll do it. However, there is a place for other things, and this site is not the appropriate place for that stuff.

I do agree that there needs to be a safe site for everyone to enjoy, but there are some older members that may also want a more . . . uh, mature site for other situations in the Balto Universe to take place (Violence, blood, gore, other . . . inappropriate activity and the likewise, for example).

Also, I would suggest that you should not be naming specific names of people (which you haven't, I'm assuming) as well as saying that certain things should be excluded just because you don't like them. Cyber-bullying will not help this site become anymore wholesome as you wish for it to be, okay? Also, you're not the only member of this site and you're not the webmaster either. Although your opinions are appreciated, there are better times and places to say them and not hurt anyone's feelings. (No offense, okay?)

But I will say this one last thing: Since there are wild animals as the main characters of these films (both TLK and Balto), they should have the right to do the things that animals of their nature do. Fighting to the death, hunting, even pro-creating . . . they are all a part of the natural process of life. Can't we just leave it alone?

(Although I will have to admit that it's the dialogue that most people complain about . . . Great examples, JC!)

Excuse me? The older members..The older members are leaving because of the childish members here actually. Now i dont know which one your talking about? Are you saying the older members on age wise? or how long they have been here?

Seriously, G-rated films can still have some sort of adult material as well . . . though it may be brief or not as importantly noticable to some young ones.

Here's some more examples

Quote:
-Stella: "Your movin' is gettin' me groovin'"

-Boris: "You cannot see I'm taking personal bath here?"

-Stella: "You bet your little patootie, honey~ But I figure two in a bath is a whole lot more fun than one."

Quote:
-Stella: "It's my first trip to Nome and I like what I see so far~" *cue splashing of feathers and "snapping" of "the girls"*

Quote:
-Stella: "I was hoping to see the picturesque sites around here.. Then later, you can show me this one-horse town~"

Quote:
"Stella: "Flying REAAALLY gets my feathers tingling~"

Not to mention all the exciting giggling and twitching from Boris and all the touching and massaging from Stella.

And mind you, the first few of those "innuendos" were all completed in approximately one minute.

Why am I pointing these out? Well, not just because they're there  Many people watching to this (including myself) were thoroughly creeped out. But the point is, it was still in the movie. And they still got away with it. And you can't argue with me just because most of you don't like the character Stella XD Trust me, I hate her too. But she was still in the movie. And she still said "things."

So that just aided the "there's adult content in children's movies" argument.

As you said, I try to avoid naming names. And when I do so, I tend to do it in rebuttal rather than assault. For example, if someone cites a particular person's work as justifying a given thing, I may use that same person's work as the basis for my counter-statement if such an action is suitable.
Also, I never said that certain things should be excluded simply because I dislike them. To paint myself as a supreme arbitor of morality would be in contradiction of the very reason for my "crusade" on the internet. To be brief, I don't say, "Take this off because I don't like it," I say, "I don't like this because it shouldn't be taken off." It might surprise some people to know that I have nothing against, for example, violence. If I did, I'd have to take some of my favorite books and movies (Left Behind comes to mind, and for the record I'm not looking to get into the religious matters of those books/movies). I do limit what I watch, out of personal taste and conscience, but I believe that mature themes can and should be handled maturely and respectfully. But, as you have said above, there is a time and place for everything. Some things are best kept off this site, just as some things are best kept off the screen when there are kids present.
And cyber-bullying? I'm no bully. In fact there are a number of times I've been bullied and muscled on this site by people whom, as you have advised, I will not name here. I've been subjected to extreme prejudice and the most spiteful misquoting, as well as slander and false charges. If ever it seems I'm being a "bully," it's for this simple reason: I stand my ground. It's in my blood, it's in my training, and it's in my soul. I stand up for what I believe in. I do what's right even when I run the risk of losing something by it. My engine's got two gears: "Drive" and "Park." There's no setting for "Reverse" or "Neutral."
As for your last statement, I have never stated any opposition to characters hunting or fighting in these stories. They have done both in mine, as well as your third example. But there is no need to go into details of every single thing, like writing detailed sexual fics or a story that's nothing but gushing blood and ripped-out guts. That's just plain poor writing, and is totally uncalled for.

cat --> As you pointed out, many people strongly disliked Stella for those very reasons. In fact a number of them, myself included, have said that the movie might well have been better off without her in it at all. Now I'll plead guilty, my stories have one or two hints in them as well, as I'm sure you have observed. But here's my defense of that:
1. I do them, as I believe you mentioned, in a way that tries to avoid the undue attention of younger readers (i.e. I avoid making them too obvious). Most of the content that this topic is directed against makes little if any effort to that end, or even any pretense of effort.
2. I keep it in a legitimate context. The integrity of a characters' behavior is plainly and unmistakably tied to their role in the story. And when something hurts people, I don't But the content increasingly invading this site seeks to treat certain inexcusable behaviors as cheap (emphasis on the cheap), harmless entertainment.
3. I treat it with respect. There's no need to, for want of a more delicate way to put it, invade the characters' privacy.

Haha yeah, her promiscuousness was indeed very annoying, unnecessary, unclever, and all-round unlikable. But my point was it was there, in the movie, and they got away with it. And if stuff similar to the stuff displayed in the movie(s) is allowed in fan-made things, they can't really single everything out. Thats like singling out any Balto/Jenna fan-made things  Its one of those all-or-nothing deals. Now, does that mean that people should just go around dishing out unessentially-skanky characters? No. But such a character existed within the movies, so that means people should have the freedom to make one too. Ridiculous, I know. But its only fair.

Carbon --> I suggest you be more cautious about using God's name like that. It can tick off some people, myself included.
Religious taboos aside, I agree with you. It's silly to use Stella as an example for justification, since it's so easy to demonstrate that she was a bad idea anyway.

No, cat, you're missing the point of this whole topic. The point is, there are websites that accept kid-unfriendly content. You are well aware of this. A quick review of the rules here will prove that this is not one of them. Moreover, most of the stuff we're talking about here goes above and beyond anything Stella said or did.

Well, apparently the creators of Balto 3 thought Stella was kid-friendly enough

Steet even said himself, content no "worse" than what was in the movies is acceptable. Its in the movies after all  G-rated movies, mind you. "General Audiences" is the rating the Rating Board gave, did it not?

Just the same, let me be the one to bring p the official rating system. Again.

Motion Picture Association of America wrote:
A G-rated motion picture contains nothing in theme, language, nudity, sex, violence or other matters that, in the view of the Rating Board, would offend parents whose younger children view the motion picture. The G rating is not a “certificate of approval,” nor does it signify a “children’s” motion picture. Some snippets of language may go beyond polite conversation but they are common everyday expressions. No stronger words are present in G-rated motion pictures. Depictions of violence are minimal. No nudity, sex scenes or drug use are present in the motion picture.

So it was on the brink of PG. But still G.

(A little history lesson? Don Bluth wanted Charlie, from All Dogs Go To Heaven, to have a conversation with the Devil, who I believe was supposed to be that dragon thing you only but saw and wondered about in the movie. But the MPAA said they would yank the G rating and make it PG if he did that. Back then, PG was aimed more towards what we now consider "PG-13." I don't recall what the MPAA said about that kind of evil being in movies back then, but it was apparently huge enough to affect the rating of the movie.)

Motion Picture Association of America wrote:
A PG-rated motion picture should be investigated by parents before they let their younger children attend. The PG rating indicates, in the view of the Rating Board, that parents may consider some material unsuitable for their children, and parents should make that decision.

The more mature themes in some PG-rated motion pictures may call for parental guidance. There may be some profanity and some depictions of violence or brief nudity. But these elements are not deemed so intense as to require that parents be strongly cautioned beyond the suggestion of parental guidance. There is no drug use content in a PG-rated motion picture.

So basically, as long as drugs aren't in use, its considered PG. Still for kids, nowadays.

I don't know who can go around saying whats for kids and what isn't for kids XD The opinion is all different. Not even parents can really argue with a website if it goes by the Rating Board. At that point, they'll have to take it up with the RB themselves. None of you arguing are parents, so... Less right? Probably. Maybe you should have kids and see what really influences them badly, then you can tell us all yourselves.

And for kicks and giggles, here's whats PG-13.

Motion Picture Association of America wrote:
A PG-13 rating is a sterner warning by the Rating Board to parents to determine whether their children under age 13 should view the motion picture, as some material might not be suited for them. A PG-13 motion picture may go beyond the PG rating in theme, violence, nudity, sensuality, language, adult activities or other elements, but does not reach the restricted R category. The theme of the motion picture by itself will not result in a rating greater than PG-13, although depictions of activities related to a mature theme may result in a restricted rating for the motion picture. Any drug use will initially require at least a PG-13 rating. More than brief nudity will require at least a PG-13 rating, but such nudity in a PG-13 rated motion picture generally will not be sexually oriented. There may be depictions of violence in a PG-13 movie, but generally not both realistic and extreme or persistent violence. A motion picture’s single use of one of the harsher sexually-derived words, though only as an expletive, initially requires at least a PG-13 rating. More than one such expletive requires an R rating, as must even one of those words used in a sexual context. The Rating Board nevertheless may rate such a motion picture PG-13 if, based on a special vote by a two-thirds majority, the Raters feel that most American parents would believe that a PG-13 rating is appropriate because of the context or manner in which the words are used or because the use of those words in the motion picture is inconspicuous.

Summary? Since I know most of you didn't even bother to read that, it basically said if any "bad" words are used angrily, as opposed to them being said casually (PG example: "Charlie went to Hell." -- PG-13 example: "Go to hell, Charlie!!") makes it PG-13. Any drug use makes it PG-13. Any sex suggested or otherwise shown for an extended amount of time makes it PG-13. Only noticeably gory/violent scenes make it PG-13.

Explaining R-ratings would carry this on pointlessly, so there you have it XD Balto 3 was rated G. Anything themed similarly to any content in the movie is considered appropriate for people of all ages.
