I dreaded someone posting this..
The dog cannot be blamed. Yes, the best thing was probably to put it to sleep but it was not the blame.
The Uncle, the owner was to blame. Pit Bulls can be very loyal, sweet and friendly dogs. They can also be strong guard dogs and, in the worst scenario, fighting dogs. No matter what, they need strong handlers who have the time and patience to train them. Pit Bulls are stereo-typed by many as 'dangerous' dogs. Any dog can be trained to be mean. But since Pits have been bred to fight its just easier for them to become aggressive.
When Pit Bulls fall into the wrong hands, they can be dangerous. We don't know the full story of this particular pit bull attack. The girl could have been teasing the dog.. the dog could have been provoked. It's all too common. A game could have got too rough. It's this kind of rare incident that gives all pit bulls a bad name.

Aluewolf - I read that entire article and there was NO MENTION OF WHY IT ATTACKED THE KID. Where are you reading this "It attacked her for no reason" Bull****
I challenge you to find us a direct quote from that article that states why it attacked the child. Can't find it? I didn't think so. Learn to read. Seriously.

Amen.
Most people think that dogs are completely domesticated, but in reality they are still cousins of the wolf and therefore have slight traces of wolf-like instincts. A wolf's instinct is to bite whenever it feels threatened or is startled, and sometimes dogs show the same behavior. It can't be stopped, and breeding or constant training won't solve a thing. Dogs are still wild animals.
Like Starsky said, pitbulls are the stereotype for dangerous dogs. They can fairly be considered one of the most feral domestic dogs out there. People used to use pitbulls as guard dogs or fighters (and they still do, but it's not as common). It is in their genes and heritage to act the way they do. We can't blame the dog.

Okay, let me get things straight.
You can't say all labradors are bad. Infact, I know many that are great. I am pretty offended by that post, and I am sick and tired of just hearing about labs(And pits.) ANY DOG CAN KILL, ATTACK! PERIOD!
No, let me repeat myself.
ANY DOG, ANY BREED, CAN KILL - ATTACK - BITE - GROWL OR SNARL! NOT.JUST.PIT.BULLS.OR.LABS.
You can't just say: "Pit bulls are blood-thirsty dogs, who are out to kill, period."
No, because, you know what?
YOU CANT BLAME THE WHOLE BREED, SIMPLY BECAUSE OF A FEW DOGS ATTACKED OR KILLED OF THAT BREED. You can't blame ANY breed, unless EVERY dog of that breed killed. And, so far, there is no such breed.
HALF of the dog attacks aren't even pit bulls. I seen a “American Pit bull Terrier” attack, and they showed the photo. And, it looked like a Lab x Hound mix. I didn't see ANY bully breed, whatsoever, in it.
And, many more dog attacks, that were said to be a 'Pit bull'. Happens they aren't.
Haven't you noticed it's always the PIT BULL? The pit bull did this, did that, did this that. Are you going to believe everything on tv? or are you going to do REAL research, and prove it YOURSELF. Don't listen to tv, because half of the time, their WRONG. Just WRONG. Pure WRONG.
And, pit bulls can hurt as much as a Labrador could. They CAN'T have locking jaws. WHO said they could? I wanna know, because I was told by MANY pit bull and dog experts they can't, and plus it was PROVEN. So, don't even dare say they have locking jaws. Just don't.
Quote: I know aggresive dogs can't just growl. But that's the point. This was an agressive, dangerous dog and it just attacked to girl for no reason.
Okay, first off; WERE YOU THERE? Did you see the attack? I HIGHLY doubt it. I am 99% sure the dog didn't attack her for no reason. It said NOTHING about the reason, and it did NOT say 'The dog just attacked for no reason'. Nuuuuupe.
--
To end the post, I am sorry for the girl. The family's loss, but really, you just can't trust a dog with a kid. A child. It's dangerous for the kid, and leaving the kid and dog alone is a big no no.[/b]

Pitbulls are the most common dog attack. And no, their jaws don't literally lock, they're just that strong that it seems like they're locked. I know that other breeds can attack people, but pitbulls are the most common to attack without persuasion.

No, pit bulls are always the ones to get blamed on, even though half time it's not even a pit bull.

Maybe in your world, but whenever a dog attacks, the news here specifies what kind it is, and 80% of the time, it's a pitbull.

That's because pitbulls are probably the most vicious breed of dog you can find.
Now, that doesn't mean that all of them are savages. There are plenty of pitbulls in my family that are to die for and would never hurt a fly. It's just that pitbulls come from a bloodline of killing, guarding, and fighting that can't be helped. It's an instinct. Each breed of dog was bred differently, and so, each breed has different natural instincts. Pitbulls happen to be bred to fight and kill.
Balto Wolfdog, I know that you clearly are trying to stand up for them, but you have to face the truth. Pitbulls are easily provoked and can be extremely violent.

The majority of the time, the child has provoked the dog. It's a common situation; the uncle, in this case, leaves the room, kid starts a rough game with the dog, dog gets too excited.. sudden accidental attack. Child won't admit what happens, dog gets the blame. I remember reading about a German Shepherd pup that was put to sleep after attacking a 10-year-old girl. It wasn't until a few weeks later that the child admitted to hitting the pup.
As Balto Wolfdog said, ANY DOG CAN ATTACK. Any dog can be trained to be mean, any dog can attack once provoked. It's known as self-defence. Some breeds just give less warning.
If those who disagree took time to read the website I posted, it does place fact over the myths such as locking jaws and the like. Aleuwolf15 imparticular should take a look.

The site is an official Pit Bull site. Of course it is up to date. It is run by Pit Bull owners and breeders.

This one doesn't. It's all correct from what I can see.
If you don't want to fight, why do you keep replying with more provoking comments?
Don't answer that.
