The more I think about it, the more it seems clear that poses shouldn't be considered as a criterion for copying. As many people have already said, this is limiting the possibilities and drawings could be refused when it's accidentally the same pose as on another drawing. And I really don't want to see honest people afraid of sending drawings because of this.

So, I think the part with the poses shouldn't be mentionned in the things not accepted.

This doesn't mean that the mods should accept copied drawings. But refuse them ONLY if it's very clearly traced, or if there is any distinct thing that makes no doubt about it. And not just that "it looks like the same"

I agree with Steet. Unless it's traced directly, people shouldn't worry too much. Example:

This pose was not invented by me, but I'm going to use it. ~as a disclaimer

If you don't know who the artist is, obviously you can't ask them and they can't reply. So it's hard to know who did the pose "first."

Good topic, that's exactly what I meant, thanks.
Although, there's one I don't agree with :

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g184/ ... led008.jpg

The drawing should be accepted, because it's not traced directly from a screenshot, but a reference. Many people who begin in drawing, take screenshots as a reference to get the proportions right, etc...As long as it is a SCREENSHOT from the films, this should be accepted. I don't think I've written that I didn't accept this type of drawing, in the rules. It's a pretty innocent thing.

Besides, I've done that myself

Yeah, I don't see anything wrong... I've done it (And still ocasionally do), Greykitty has, almost everyone has -- just for practice. I don't see anything wrong with it as long as they say that it's from a screenshot. Sure it's not originality, but it's practice art... and it's good for all of us still learning. You yourself must have done it at some point! If not: Pretend I didn't say that. The point is: We see it ALL the time, even the greatest artists doodle up screencaps, I've seen it... we all do it, and it's mostly a practice routine, that's how we learn. Everyone lookes at art from films, pictures,, art and photos... we all us eit, and I think it's the same here.

I don't think you understand that the point of this whole thing is NOT to copy, but if you're GOING to, simply MENTION the artist you copied from. That's all.

And there's a way to tell if someone copied someone else. You need an eye for it. An artist's eye and a familiarity with other artist's drawings. And an example such as this is not so hard to tell if someone copied.

Say if someone posted a drawing that was fantastic, saying they drew it themselves and everything. Then later on, after they get away with it, they start sending in art that has lesser quality.

Now a real artist would not send in their best out first and then show other "how bad they drew" before (at least not usually, and if they do it's not a continuous sending of bad art) and surely artists do not "get worse" at drawing (unless they don't pay attention to what their doing or some other kind of technical difficulty like becoming legally blind)

If someone drew a picture and it happens to look like someone else's (and they DIDN'T copy) it's possible to tell if it's a direct copy. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's not there. According to America's law, if something is at least 25% different than something else, it's automatically not a copy. That's how it works here and that seems fair.

It's not that I disagree with you, I only said that it should not be put as a rule. Because it's not, I haven't mentionned the poses in the fan art rules (text) so I don't want to see them mentionned in the fanart rules (visuals = this topic)

Ask any other artist and they'll say the same exact thing I did about what's considered art theft. But fine. You just want to make everyone happy. It's your fanart site. I'm just here to educate.

I have to agree with Cat on this one. I have just gotten my pose stolen from me. I never thought badly of it before, I wouldn't do it myself because I think it's boring to do so, but, not long ago someone stole my pose from my gallerie and boy was I infuriated. I was not flattered. It was a miracle I controlled myself so I wouldn't tell that person off. At the moment I'm taking out my anger on paper, don't worry it isn't directed to the "person". Anyways, I beleive art theft is wrong in any form, be it pose, character whatever it is, it shouldn't be done without credit to the artist. If there is no credit it should be reported to a fanart mod, just as I did.

This topic now seriously needs to be locked. You people just don't understand. Art theft is a CRIME. OK? Do you get it? Don't do it. Don't steal poses, characters, pics or anthing from anyone. Ok? Now get along and get over the 'grow up' thing. Cat, these people are just disrespecting you and your topic. It's a great topic, really. But, it's causing more trouble than it needs to.

TinCanny- Uh...who is Street? If you are talking about the owner it's Steet. Just to let you know.
