I do think that Kiara is a bit annoying because not only is she a bit selfish, but she is also stubborn. I have no clue why Kovu or how Kovu could actually go from wanting to kill her and her family - something instilled in him al his life - to giving up his once only purpose in life for one girl. Surely he couldn't have forgotten all of his training? Ultimate annoying quote: "Upendi - It means love doesn't it?" (duh - no really? You just got that half way through the song?!?) There is one picture and description by an artist at TLKFAA that I think really portrays this, I just have to find it... EDIT - I found the Picture "I am the Queen, I can do whatever I want!" Simba had spoiled her. When her father passed on and Kiara took her place as Queen, the health of the Pridelands began a constant downward spiral. Both predator and prey starved and the Circle of Life became corrupt. Since the day of her birth, Kiara had been given without exception all that she could ever ask for. Old habits die hard, and the Queen had no problem putting herself before her Kingdom. (credits for the picture go to Tamu of TLKFAA) If you say that she isn't selfish because she helped save Kovu from the crocodiles - do you really think SHE would've survived the crocs if she hadn't done what she had?

If Kiara was selfish, why would she have gone out of her way to stop the war between the prides, instead of running away with Kovu? Explain that one! Kiara, at the start of the movie, was immature, stubborn and maybe a little selfish. But she grew and matured into a beautiful lioness. And yes, she may always retain that ditzy-ness. But I, myself (despite having the highest grades in our year level) am like that. I didn't realise that my shorts had two pockets. I was like "Ohmygee these shorts have TWO pockets?!" And Kiara's hunting ability. A lot of people moan and whine and use this as a reason that they hate Kiara. Guess what? It was her FIRST hunt! By herself! And lions hunt in prides to take down that sort of game. And the only succeed 1/10 times! So there! (Sorry about all the exclaimation marks and seeming really pissed off, it's not really because of you.)

I actually really like how her character is developed throughout the film. As a cub, she is very irresponsible yet wants to be independent. However, she seems to also be "stressed", so to speak, knowing that someday she will be queen, which to her is no fun.
I'm not actually so sure if Simba does spoil her that much, but I get the impression he wants her to feel like she does get everything she wants. For example, Kiara wants more freedom. So Simba lets her go and play. Then, he secretly sets Timon and Pumbaa out to keep an eye on her. On the other hand, Kiara quickly becomes angry when she finds out things aren't going her way. I think she has that "spoiled brat" type in her, but that's certainly not all she is.
When she grows up, there is still this continuation of her wanting to be independent, while Simba repeatedly gets Timon and Pumbaa to look after her. We know that Kiara is still irresponsible, and that Simba's just doing this to protect her, but she doesn't realize this and I think that's why she gets so defensive about it.
When Kiara tries to persuade Simba to accept Kovu, she proves that she is caring towards others and is also not quick to judge - she takes the time to get to know Kovu. Of course, due to how naive she can also be, Simba cannot take her word about Kovu. Standing up for someone else is also a sign of selflessness, even though she may have been more selfish as a cub. Now she is growing up.
Kiara's leadership skills seem like they will be a problem at first, due to her lack of responsibility that doesn't seem to be getting any better, but near the end of the movie when she persuades Simba into letting the outlanders join them, she reaches a turning point for the best.
Another act of selflessness: even after all the horrible things Zira has been doing, Kiara still wanted to save her. She could have left her and not even attempted to rescue her.
Like VividLegacy mentioned, Kiara rejected Kovu's idea of running away and starting their own pride. She really does grow up during the movie, and I think she's a very nice character by the end, and wonderfully developed during the story.
Heh, I must admit I'm confused about this whole thing about her not being able to hunt... about that upsetting people. Fair enough if a lion that has trouble hunting offends you in any way, but I can't say that's something I would personally get angry about.

Sometimes, she can get annoying, mostly at the start of the movie. She is not selfish, but she seem ( At least for me) too irresponsible to be queen. Yes, she was the one who made two prides one, but that's selflessnes, not being responsible.
She can also be a little dumb, like, why did she said," But dad!" If he already let her go? And that quote in the middle of "In upendi" Makes her look stupider, but sometimes she acts quite wisely, like she knew that it would be really bad to leave the pride. First of all:
1.Lions don't hunt, only lionesses.
2.Kiara is the only one from Kovu's created pride.
3.She is terrible hunter.
4. They both died from starve.
So it's really good that she returned.
