I don't hate homosexuals- I do hate homosexuality. I agree with Seppala, any incest or gay fic sickens me almost to the point of throwing up-Seriously(holds back from rant).
I will willingly stand in the way of anyone who flames Seppala's stand or wetwolf4.gif throws a duck at it.

Thank you for standing up for what you(and others) believe in. :salut:
I know that the situation your in is hard, the Lord can help just look to him for guidance and help that He is always willing to give.

Gah, I missed all the good stuff . . . TT__TT

So, is everything back to normal again? Are you here to stay now?

(Heck, I'm still surprised by the fact that a topic that even mentioned the "*gasp!* Gay/Incest" topic is still here and not locked by now! If any of us non-mods did the same thing, they would have been locked before we reached a second page. Why is that?

Ah, hell . . . now I have to rant . . . *goes back to her ranting topic*)

That still depends upon whether or not the tide of homo/bi/incestual/violent/profane fan fics is going to ebb (for good). If it continues unabated, or even increases, I will depart. And it's getting to look like others will too.

This one issue (not the issue of my departing, but the issue of these controversial fan fictions) has been the most hazardous thing Balto Source has ever had to face. And by that, I mean that no other issue (even anything which happened before I joined, from what I have heard from older members) has come even remotely close to being the undoing of Balto Source. THIS issue has torn at the very heart of the membership, and divided it into two camps...and there are a small handful of very vocal and demonstrative members on either side of the chasm which divides us.

The personification of that chasm is the great stress, the arguing, debating and flaming, and the hurt which has arose SIMPLY because we've been more interested in protecting the "rights" of the writers to write whatever they want, instead of protecting the good and wholesome image of the Balto cartoon characters (and, by extension, the real heroes of 1925) from being dragged through the mud and sullied. Maybe that's a pretty dramatic appraisal of the situation, but that is how I see it.

The solution? I have no clue. Everyone's idea of a solution is unique. And not all of them agree on it (obviously). This thing has gained momentum now, and there's probably no real way to stop it. Perhaps, had these kinds of fictions NEVER been allowed here, this problem wouldn't exist at all. And believe me, the writers of those fictions would STILL be here as members, STILL writing other material.

It's very unfortunate. It's Balto Source's darkest hour, for sure. What becomes of the site and the membership in the coming days, weeks, and months (maybe years) will be measured by the resolve and ethical standards of the people who make up its membership (including the webmaster). I only know that, if the current trend continues, I will have to seek ways of expressing and sharing my fandom of the Balto cartoons, and my passion for the true history, elsewhere. :|

At the risk of sounding selfish and self-centered, I will say this.

When I write fan fictions about these characters, like the ones I already have, the one thought that continually plays in my mind (truthfully) is "how can I honor these characters?" Even though they're fictional (mostly), I cannot conceive of myself writing anything about them which violates their established nature. To my way of thinking, I do this for THEM, not for me. I really don't care much about how many people read my fan fictions, or whether or not they become "fan fic of the week". (Though I'm always grateful for the feedback of my readers, and gratified that they've enjoyed my stories. It's the reward for the work...the icing on the cake. But, in truth, it's not WHY I write them.)

Whenever I'm writing about the fictional Balto, I think of how it impacts upon the REAL Balto. I think of the good, kind, wise and decent cartoon character, and how I would never want to hurt him if he were REAL. And I think the same about the supporting characters. I really, truly write what I write for them, not for me. To honor them. To fulfill my own fantasies (non-sexual ones, you dopes  ) through those stories.

To me, changing the established natures of those characters out of some selfish desire to "explore the possibilities", or tell a different kind of fiction, or draw attention to me (rather than the characters themselves, as they have already been established officially) is an alien concept. And a violation. The real challenge, as I said before, is to write a new, fresh and compelling story (and an entertaining one) while remaining within established boundaries (in accordance with the cartoons themselves). To write this controversial stuff, or take off in new directions, is easy.

I don't do easy. It's more fulfilling to face a challenge, and succeed at it. And, with my "Nome Meets Snob Hill" storyline (which is yet to be concluded, incidentally), and the very bittersweet "Passing of Togo", I believe I have achieved that. And it would appear the readers of those stories agree with me, which is a great reward to me for the effort expended. But, as Jon Anderson (former lead singer of the band "Yes") once said "even if we were no longer popular, and weren't making money selling albums, I'd still write and perform the music. Because, for me, it's about the music. The music is what matters." (That's a paraphrase of course, and it doesn't suggest that Anderson didn't ever appreciate the tons of fans Yes has...just that he and the band poured their hearts and souls into the music...which shows of course).

BaltoSeppala, you've pretty much said what I've been afraid to say, for all of the reasons you stated. I don't believe that these fan fictions should be posted on BaltoSource at all. I'm glad that you spoke out about it.

It takes Courage to take a stand. People hate me because I have morals and standards that my Father has given me to follow. and its ok As Christians we can expect that.
Some people agree with us(and see homosexuality for what it is) and others disagree because they find some fascination in guy/guy or girl/girl. How does homosexuality make you feel around your best friend? It sickens me to even wonder how this is gonna affect good friends in the future who are torn apart because someone called them gay. Its just plain sad people!!! whimper.gif

p.s.(and totally off subject) Just call me Sunny

Y'mean love and caring between two individuals?

In any case, with this being a "kid-friendly" site, I personally think that what is and is not accepted should be up to the fanfic mod and what they think is acceptable for a kid site to display, with the final word coming from the admin (Steet)...if that makes sense0,o.

That tears it. :?

The selfish acts today of one person, and the misguided support of a few others FOR that person, have stripped me of the very last ounce of strength I have to put up with it.

I can't take it anymore. The pettiness, the double standards, the back-stabbing, the secret friendships, the melodrama...I'm sick of the way people act on here, and how IMPERIOUS some can be.

I've only been registered on this site for a day, but I've been a guest for a while. I never really knew the site had gone to pieces in only a matter of months. I know this post will most likely be ignored, but from the way I read it, it sounds like a lot of people like the nasty stuff, andonly a minority of the people on this site like the kid friendly aspect. I have to say, why do people do things like have gory and sexual stories, when Balto is a family friendly movie.

I'm not a fan of homosexuality, and I'm not sure I like the fact people pair Kodi and Kirby together. I mean, come on! Kodi is Balto's son! Why would you take an innocent, cute kid movie, and turn it into something Hollywood seems to put the spotlight on. This stuff just sickens me...

I would just like to put my last two cents in this topic. Some of you are complaining that you are disturbed by the fanfics and you annouce it publicly, constantly saying how much it hurts you that people would dare write a homosexual fic with Kodi. Imagine this, it also hurts if you are homosexual and you see these comments: It's disgusting! It's horrible!. That must hurt too don't you think? I know that's your opinion and you have every right to stand by it, I have nothing against that. But why can't we just leave it at, "I don't agree with it." instead of saying how disgraceful it is to you. I don't want to be flamed, I come in total peace with my comment I'm not intending to offend anyone or hurt anyone's feelings.

Well, that is truely what I think.

:) Bye, Emily
