Well, the chances of writing a story that is not similar to somebody else's story at one point or another is pretty low nowadays. Every type of literature is probably a rip-off of another when it comes down to the main storyline. I'm hopefully going to start writing some fanfics soon, so I hope that no one is offended if their story and my own are similar.

Yeah, its especially happening nowadays. There are people who see an idea they like, and copy down only the bare details and use their own random crappy characters in their spot. They can't even spend a few minutes thinking about something on their own, let alone actually writing it! And what's even better is that they're getting good advice and are not taking it! -_-

This has happened to me but the girl never got around to it. She read one of my old childish fanfics and posted the comment, "I like this idea. I'm going to make something like it but with my characters!" Thank gawd, she never got to doing it.
And sadly I don't feel like rewriting Adara's Sweet Revenge, and A Death of a hero 1

Thank goodness someone made a topic for this. I find this to be annoying as well. Especially when the fanfic is one loooong paragraph(gramatically INCORRECT, most of the time). And some spell waay off. (but that's not really what bothers me, but if they can write a fanfic, they can read a dictionary ;D) And what gets me peeved is when they use "ur" for "your" and so on and so forth. Ugh. Anyway, great rant. I agree 100%

We're seeing this more and more nowadays, especially now that Buried Secrets has been rewritten and Brown Hill Spirits is in progress. I see sooooo many stories with the same plot - dog/hybrid meets wolf, dog/hybrid effortlessly joins pack, dog/hybrid becomes alpha. I even decided to make one like it a long time ago, but now I'm fine-tuning it so it's completely different, and hey, after a lot of work, it pays off.
Also I see a lot of Kodi/Dusty fics and 'what happened to Aleu' ones, most of them involving her returning to Nome and/or her having pups. I mean, BE ORIGINAL. What if she drowned on the ice bridge? What if she was killed by her own pack for being so 'careless'? It's not that hard. Heck, I'm doing a rewrite of Wolf Quest as I type and you know why I'm addicted to writing with it? Because it actually has original subplots and touches, original events, it's just so different from anything I've come across and incredibly fun to write and fun to read and re-read again and again. If it's not enjoyable to re-read for yourself because it's just like somebody else's fic, who's going to enjoy it, hm? I thought so.
