Heather knit her eye brows and shook her head, "I know how importaint being Ghost is to you. I could never do that to you." Heather said, her voice cracked, the memory washed over her again and she shivered.

"No Heather... Ghost isn't as important to me as you are... those guys want Ghost gone, then so be it... they'll leave you alone this way...." he said gently stroking her tear-stained cheek with a rough, but tender hand.

"T-The don't want Ghost gone, they want him dead. They know you're real name...The first time they captured me thay said you're name. They know who you are Atticus, they're out for blood..." Heathr said, her voice like sandpaper.

Atticus shook his head "No, they might know my real name... but if Ghost stops coming after them that won't matter. Gangs don't hold grudges, and so long as the Ghost kills end. Whether it's because he's dead or gone... they got what they wanted. And they'll leave you alone..." Atticus replied firmly.

Heather bit her bruised lip hard and shook her head, "They want revenge. You killed their boss, an eye for an eye. That's their deal.." Heather replied, her voice low.

Atticus took in a deep breath "That doesn't bother me, I'm not worried about myself. They don't scare me unless I know they're going to hurt you. If Ghost's gone they won't bother you anymore..."

Heather's lower lip quivered "I can't loose you.." She said,the very thought of Atticus being killed shattered her eve more.

Atticus looked into her eyes "Heather, nothing's gonna happen to me... and I know you don't wanna hear this... but I'd give up everything if it meant you'd be safe..." he said softly.

Heather shook her head, "Don't give up anything for me. I'm nothing. I'm just a girl. I don't matter." Heather insister, her voice at a weak quiver.

Atticus shook his head and gently grabbed her arms, pulling her closer to his face while he started into her eyes. "Don't you say that... it's not true. You can believe that if you want to, but I never will. You're the best thing that's ever happen to me, Heather... I... I love you, and I wouldn't let anyone hurt you..." he had to rethink his sentence, had he just told her he loved her? He hadn't meant to tell her that now... but it was true, so he didn't care, he meant it.

"But you did let something hurt me." She words came quietly out of her mouth, and emmedaitly Heather wanted to call them back. She closed her eyes and cursed, wishing she hadn't said what she had.

Those words broke Atticus's heart, he let her arms go and sat back to himself. He looked down and sighed, she was right. He didn't look at her, her just ran his hand through his hair.

Atticus was confused, he was just angry... but not at Heather... at himself... She was right, he had let them hurt her. Not once did it occur to him, that he didn't know she was going to get hurt. He finally turned his blue gaze to her and out of no where he leaned in and softly kissed her.

Heather laced her hands through his hair and breathed in rapidly. She kissed him back and felt the tears start to dry from her eyes.
