Jenna nodded slowly, looking up at the sky. "Hm, we left pretty late, it'll be dark soon." she said, desperately trying to change the subject.

Kai looked about and began to sniff. "I can barely smell the den anymore, and the den in about two miles from Nome...Uh, seven miles??" he quessed with a slight tinge of confidence.

"Why?" Kodi asked with a light chuckle in his voice.

"Who knows?" Tai said, ears pinned back. "But if we do run into him again, and he doesw anything like that again." she clenched her teeth. "I'll KILL him..."

Charlie nodded, checking more of the dogs about as he listened to Rob.

Jenna nodded in agreement. "I just hope we're not going to run into any trouble on the way..." it was a vain hope of course.

Kai smiled, excitement glowing in his eyes. "Well, we just left Cachen, and for beginners, I'd say we've covered about of ground."


"I'm sorry," Tai said, uite ashamed "I don't kow what's wrong with me.." she honestly had no clue.

Kodi looked away, ears pinned back. "I don't know what to say, Fang, he's your Dad, and he's my Dad's enemy." he was confused.

"I remember," Charlie said "My first sled race, I watched of course, but it was ownderful. The lead dog on one team, looked exactly like Balto."

"I know," said Jenna, looking to her mate. "I definately know we can handle it."

"Who?" asked Kai, tilting his head "You mean on Grandpa's side of the family?"

"I know, I really know, Lena." Tai sighed, losing the will to speak and concentrating on the path ahead of her.

Kodi nodded gingerly, gulping a moment before he answered his friend's question. "I think, for Steele, it IS asking too much of him...All he cared about were his looks and his career."

Tai blinked. "Oh! No, you didn't upset me, Lena." she gave a reassuring smile. "Just something about being on a sled team like this, feels natural to me...I guess." she shrugged.

Kodi nodded sadly. "I know, Fang, I know." he said, ears pinned back. "But, who knows, maybe he's learned something with his age."

Jenna nodded, looking a bit concerned. "That's what I'm afraid of..." she muttered.

Kai blinked. "I don't know." he said, shrugging. "All I know is the Grandpa's mother was a wolf and his dad was a husky."

Tai smiled, before giving a light chuckle "You never to worry about upsetting me, Lena!"

Kai nodded, tihnking a bit. "Aniu? I've heard that name before...Before we first met Grandpa."

Kodi nodded. "Hey, don't worry...I'm sure he's changed."

"I don't like seeing you hurt." said Jenna, looking truly worried. "I came because I didn't want anything to happen to you."

"Ah, see," Jenna smirked. "you NEVER know what can come out of the forest and bite you in the tail!"

Kodi laughed. "Then they're all blind, because you are NOTHING like Steele." he smirked lightly, shaking off a cramping paw.

Kai nodded. "how is it we can call Dad's parents Grandpa and Grandma, but we can't do the same for Mom's parents?"

Tai giggled. "You have nothing to worry about, Lena."

Jenna grinned. "No one can worry that much about anything!" she laughed good naturedly.

Tai pinned her ears back. "I'm sorry aobut that, I guess I'm very protective of Cachen when it comes to Momma."

Kodi nodded. "I know, but this is your chance to make a reputation for yourself."

Kai blinked curiously. "Then why not just say Grandma Lenatei and Grandpa Bashkei? Or sometihng liek that y'know?"

Mr Simpson looked around, knowing they had left late in the day. Within the next mile, there was a small clearing that the dogs could relax in.
