I would so love to go but its so far away i just dont think my family will have the money for it. Im sorry. But if you had one in soutern california I would so definatley go! ^_^ I know all the airports around here and a few hotels too!

Of course. We haven't done much work with it lately...I guess we've all been busy with school and other things. But, yes, the trip is still going to happen.

I think Whitewolf's idea is an excellent one (especially given the fact that she believes it should be held in the U.S., which would mean a rather expensive and lengthy trip for her and her fellow Europeans if it were held here)! I hope it succeeds!

I would probably have to decline attending, though. I am an adult, in my thirties, and there are a few obvious problems here:

1. How much, beyond our common interest in the Balto cartoons (and perhaps, and hopefully, the REAL history), would any of the pre-teens and teenagers have in common with myself and the other adults who are members of Balto Source (I really have no idea even how many there are beyond me)? I mean, I suppose it's POSSIBLE that they might, but there is a vast gap in life experience, interests, and even personalities (and, let's be totally honest, maturity level too).

2. You guys and girls, who are pre-teens and teenagers, are probably going to want to hang mostly with your peers...people of your own age range. You're probably not going to want to hang with the adults. And who could blame you? The same is true for the adults.

3. I echo the sentiments and concerns of Dingo on page 1 of this thread, which I also stated to him privately in a discussion about this recently, even before I saw this. There ARE adult predators lurking out there...one or more of them might even be members of Balto Source...and it's very possible they're posing as teenagers. And I say this as a concerned adult. Do any of you have a plan for dealing wiith that? Perhaps even (as uncool as this sounds) adult chaperones (perhaps parents)?

I'd LOVE to go to whatever gathering of Balto Source members occurs. But I'm concerned about how much I'd have in common with each of you (beyond the Balto thing), whether or not you'd actually want to spend much time with me (and having me around...and I suppose vice versa), and so on. And, while I am a decent, law-abiding, honest citizen, who has never hidden the fact that I'm an adult, I wouldn't want to deal with a constant state of suspicion, and being under a microscope, because I'm an adult who would be attending a gathering of what would really mostly be kids.

Any thoughts on this dilemma? Whitewolf?

Actually Seppala we've decided that it's a requirement for all people attending who are under 18 years of age to have at least 1 parent/guardian to come with them (even if they don't like it).

As for you not having many people to talk to I know there are/must be more adult members of BS, dunno who they are though, you may also get along with some of the parents who would be coming as they'd probably very much enjoy hearing about the history of the real Balto and the serum run (I know my mum would ).

Plus, we're still in need of things for people to see/do whilst there and if you do decide to come along would you be able to bring some stuff about the real Balto and the serum run along for a sort of display about it?

Ah, glad to see that the safety of minors has been taken into account.

I would like the chance to talk with not only the adults, but the younger members as well. I'm just trying to keep everything "above board". In this day and age, you know how messy it can be for an adult male to show up at such events. Even if he's the most decent, morally-straight and forthright person on the planet, he's going to be subject to scrutiny and prejudice, because of the times we live in (especially if he shows up without a wife and/or kids of his own). Not that I'm paranoid...I'm just trying to be honest about all this.

Your suggestions are very intriguing! I don't have much on the real history that isn't saved on a computer. But maybe by that time I could find some stuff. Or at least try. I would consider it a privilege to be able to moderate or lead a discussion or even luncheon kind of thing about the real history. That would be awesome!

Yeah, I can see why you'd be unsure of coming, people are always like that now coz theres too much crime, not everyone is bad...although sometimes it does'nt seem that way .

It'd be great if you could come and even better if you manage to get some stuff on the history of the serum run for the trip, you could always print some stuff off...if you have a printer of course, it'd be awesome.

Okay, well, I've been developing some great contacts not only in Nome itself, but also in Wasilla (where Togo's mount is)! That could help a lot! I'll keep on it.

Here's a question of note: When and where is this event to be held? I heard something about Chicago. Though I should think a more awesome place, for obvious reasons, would be Cleveland, OH. Timing is, of course, of the essence, especially when trying to pull the funds for such a trip, making lodging plans (have any group discount rates been arranged for a hotel or something? How about a place to hold any discussions or seminars?) I didn't read the whole 26-page thread (LOL), so I'm kind of in the dark about the details...
