Russet nodded and looked back at Shay. "Because, he came to find and kill me, Shay."

"Your granfather, Mareem, he doesn't like me. I wanted you guys to know him, but tonight I heard him and saw him slinking across the hill. That's why I howled. I was afraid he'd find you and try to kill you too."

Russet sighed. "It's rather hard to explain, but he just doesn't like me, and he'd try to kill you because you're my pups."

Russet growled lightly, "But that's how it is with wolves. In a typical pack, only the Alpha's pups would be allowed to live. Rarely will an Alpha male or female accept pups from litters other than theirs. It's similar to that with my father, and because your mother's a dog, he doesn't want a litter with dog blood." Russet turned only his head to face Delilah and Julius. "Not that there's anything wrong with dogs, just my father really hates them."

"There's nothing to worry, anyways, so don't feel afraid."

"Mad at what?" Russet asked.

Russet growled softly, "Don't be upset at him."

"Because you shouldn't be angry at him, even if he is cruel and savage, he's still your grandfather and nothing can change that."
