Mike eyed her strangely, but didn't say anything. He just walked out of the cave, giving the two femails a respectable distance.

Helga looked at her mother, " What do you need?"
"Look, I might die soon. I will need you to take my place if you do. Do you understand?" She asked. She never told her that she was the soon to be Alpha female of the pack. It was the first Helga had ever heard of it.
"Wait, I'm a princess of a pack? Why didn't you tell me earlier mom? You will never die, will you?" She asked about to cry.
"Everybody dies at a certain point of their lives. You need to understand that." She asked nuzzling her, " I don't want to, but, my time is coming. Soon, hopefully not anytime soon, will be my time." She said crying inside at the thought.
Helga thought for a sec. crying on the inside also, ' I really don't want you to go mother'She nodded, " I understand." She said and nuzzled her back walking out of the den, " It's ok to go back in dad." She said and ran back to her den and cried for a moment then pulled herself together, " Don't cry. Big girls don't cry." She said choking back the tears.

Mike came back inside. He noticed both Jamie and Helga had wet, red eyes, telling him that they were crying, but he knew better then to ask what had just happened.
"So Helga, Max said you found something by the lake?"

She answered, " It was nothing important. Just a stick." She said turning away knowing that the truth would scare both of her parents.

She couldn't hold back those frightened tears any longer and burst out into tears against her father's chest, " It wasn't a stick. I was scared when I found it. It was a decaying human body. Nothing but the bones left. It was so scary!" She said looking at Mike with big eyes with tears flowing down her cheek.

Mike nuzzled her, though his body went stiff and a cold chill went down his spine.
"I can't believe this! The two plates and now this?"
Mike sighed.
"Can you please show me exactly where you found the bones, Helga?"

"Um, sure dad." She said and walked out of the den to the sight where the bones were, " Here they are." She said, " He has a bag of some sort." She said pulling the bag out of the hole tearing it apart with her canines. Everything fell out and there was school supplies in it.

Mike stared at the school bag.
"I thought it was going to be from a long time ago. By the way everything looks, this human died less than a year ago."
Mike paused to gather his thoughts, then suddenly he ran to the water and found the other plate. He removed it the same way he and Jamie had done to the other one the previous night. He set it down on the bank and stared at it.
"Whatever these plates are warning us of is still around. That human didn't die of starvation, or we would have seen them. It was attacked!"

Mike shook his head.
"A wolf wouldn't attack a human like this. Look how many bones have been broken, plus it looks like an arm has been torn completely off."
He stared at Jamie.
"I haven't heard any sound of an attack. Usually there is a lot of noise, especially if something ends up killed. i'm not sure what caused this."

"Jamie, we've been here for over three years now. This body has only been dead for maybe 10 months."
Mike looked at the body again.
"Come on, let's go back to the den."
Suddenly there was a splash and many ripples of water from the lake.
"Boy, big fish, huh?"
Mike said with a laugh as the three wolves trotted back to the den.
