The trees, while metal, weren't indestructable. Eventually, the Dartones would get through, as well as their riders. After that...well, Rue wasn't sure. But she tried to put on an optimistic face, though her spotted pelt was bristling in fear. "We are not Dartone-meat," she said firmly. "We'll be fine."

Rue glared at her. Sure, she didn't really have any sort of idea as to what they would do, but she was at least trying, here! If she admitted she didn't see a way out of this...well, the others would lose hope too. And it seemed as if there was little left.

A huge crash erupted on the outside of the trees' silver shell around them, shaking their foundation and nearly denting the broad leaves. They're here. they said, We'll hold them off as long as we can.
"Holy crap!" yelled Nudge, his fur bristling at the loud pound.
Vetch bared his fangs, ready for a fight, even if it was to the death.
"Do they have any weaknesses?" Nook asked the trees frantically.
