Dusty noticed her reaction to the word. "What's wrong?"
"We all have gifts." said Balto. "Remember what happened with Steele? Think you could 'feel' Mako? It might help us track him."
"So are you." said Lenatei. "Being a mother is a great act of heroism."

Bashkei smiled. "When you have a child, you'll understand...When something bad happens to them, you feel helpless, and afraid." he smiled and nuzzled Cachen.
Goldie smiled lightly, a few tears going down her face. "I'm missing someone...He used to talk about karma a lot." she laughed for a moment.
Tai nodded. "I can block a lot out now, but I could try to open up..." she concentrated for a moment, and smiled. "I'll tell you if I feel anything, Grandpa."
Katie cocked an eyebrow. "Mama...I'm no hero. I did what my heart told me. It told me to be with Kodi and told me that I was going to have children..." she shook her head. "You're a hero, Mama..."

"I know you feel helpless Grandpa, but if our track record means anything, we'll rescue her, like we always do." said Cachen, Kaite had a habit of finding herself in dangerious situations.
"Was it Steele?" asked Dusty. "I've been told about what happened, takes a big dog to change his ways."
Mako headed inside, his mind wasn't full of hatred, he had no anger towards Katie, to him, it was just busness, that and he was a sadistic psychopath, which Tai might sense. He set down in his chair. Mammoth was out searching, he really didn't have much to do, he didn't want to torture Katie too much, he didn't want to kill her, but he did want to hurt her.
Lenatei chuckled. "Katie, you're a bigger hero than you know." she said. "You don't have to risk your life to be a hero, just being a good role model is being a hero."

Bashkei smiled and rubbed Cachen's head. "You're on your way to being a great hro, Cachen."
Goldie nodded, wiping her tears away. "I miss him so much...I love him so muc, like a Father."
Tai stopped dead in her tracks, putting her head down. The sadistic energy radiated through her head, causing her pain. "G-Grandpa..."
Katie nodded, smiling lightly. "I never thought of myself as a hero...Just a Momma."

"That's what they say, they say I'm a mini verson of my other Grandpa." said Cachen, smiling.
"I know." said Dusty. "But you'll see him again, I promise." she said, smiling. "Fate works out that way normally."
Balto gasped. "What's wrong Tai?" he asked, worried.
Mako had gotten to work on something else. He opened the basement door and threw another canster down. He knew one of the easiest ways to hurt a dog was through their sense of smell, due to that being very strong and importent to them, that's why he used so many stinkbombs. This one was designed to be totally nausating, make them feel sick.
Lenatei watched the canaster release a green gas. She gagged when she smelt it, she swore if she'd had a stomach, she'd had thrown up. "Yuck! Oh that's disgusting!"

Bashkei laughed lightly, and looked to Tai when she stopped. "Your sister doesn't look so good."
Goldie nodded, smiling. "I know, he promised me he would. I know he wouldn't lie to me."
Tai pointed her muzzle just a little way away form the direction they were taking. "G-go that way...It may-may not look like a-a-lot...but i-it's imp-important...We'll...over-overshoot Mako...If w-w-we don't." she panted from the pain, laying down with her head in the snow.
Katie coughed, covering her nose with her paw. Her face seemed to turn as green as the gas. "Oh-I'm gonna throw up!" she cried, tears going down her face...she'd been feeling sick all day.

Cachen gasped and ran to his sister. "What's wrong sis?" he asked, concerned.
"Tai, can you block him out?" asked Balto, also concerned.
Dusty looked at Tai. "Something's wrong with her."
Mako laughed, enjoying this. He threw another canster into the basement, same type of gas. He shut the door. "I love torturing dogs."
Lenatei, even though she wasn't alive, couldn't help but gag hard at the increased amount of the nausating stench. She laid down and put both paws over her nose. "I guess this guy likes to torture dogs by hitting them in their most sensitive ability, the sense of smell." she said. "He may be evil, but he's smart."

Bashkei walked over, studying Tai's position. "She's Empathetic." he said "She reads strong emotions and manners of creatures nearby."
Tai looked up at Balto, full of pain. "Help me, talk about something good...please!" she begged, still learning how to control the power.
Goldie whined and lowered her ears. "It doesn't look good for her."
Katie whined, holding her stomach with one paw. "Oh...Mama..." she murmured.

Cachen tried something, remembering a day back when the family had gone out into the forest clearing to play, they'd had so much fun that day. He hopped that helpped.
Lenatei phased into her daughter and used her powers to settle her stomach. "That better dear?"

Balto looked to Bashkei. "What did you say? She's Empathetic?" he asked, curious as to what he meant. "I've never heard that before."
Dusty sighed in relief. "Well she's better now, that's good."
"You're welcome." said Lenatei, keeping her paw over her nose. "But too bad I can't get rid of this nasty smell."

Tai smiled and laid her head down slowly. She sighed in relief, still looking a bit pale under her fur.
Bashkei nodded. "My brother deals with powers like that of both the girls...However, when empathy is just a sixth sense on someone else, they can only know emotions. In Tai's case, she only picks up strong emotions, and this time it was negative. She's still learning, so it causes a deal of pain."
Goldie sighed as well, smiling in relief.
Katie smiled and nuzzled her Mother.

Cachen cuddled up to his sister, trying to comfort her.
"So Lena sees the future and Tai can sense the feeling's of others?" asked Balto.
"You've got a good family." said Dusty. "And yes, you're part of it, you're Cachen's girlfriend afterall."
Lenatei nuzzled her back. "But who knows what other nasty tricks this psycho has up his sleeve."

Tai smiled and cuddled into Cachen. "Talk to me Cachen, please." she said softly.
Bashkei nodded, smiling. "Yes. Hmmm...Lena reminds me of someone, there's a new alpha of my brother's pack that can see the future as well. Aleu I think her name was?"
Goldie nodded, feeling very happy. Her family had grown.
Katie shook her head. She held her nose and sighed "I don't want to know."

Balto smiled. "That's my daughter." he said proudly.
Dusty nodded. "Do you want to comfort Tai with Cachen?"
Lenatei nodded. "I know, what's next?" she asked. "A stinkbomb so awful it knocks you out?" she asked, shuttering at the thought. While to a human this was annoying to a canine, an extremely bad smell could be considered torture, due to their extremely sensitive noses.
